I could not find a country of origin, but it looks like planes coming out of India. The tote and knob are made of an attractive hardwood but finish is a bit course. As with all low priced planes you will need to do some fettling to make this plane usable. The frog was flat and the machining where it meets the bed is fairly well done. The soul was well ground and did not take long to flatten and polish. The chip breaker has too much curve and needs to have some material removed from the edge, or it over stresses and bends the blade when the screw is tightened. It came with two blades; the one on the plane was .076" thick while the spare was .100". The spare was particularly coarsely ground. Replacing the blade and chip breaker with aftermarket parts like those from Lee Valley would save a lot of work and improve the plane greatly. ... show more

If you work with wood this is a must tool you need to prep it before using but I very happy with this planer much cheaper price then the other planers better quality too

    • Looks nice but very badly made and almost nonfunctional

Has a nice appearance but on closer inspection almost every part is completely misaligned and even with extensive modification, it will not be able to function properly. The lateral adjustment lever is pinned off center on the frog and so it will effectively only allow lateral shifting in one direction because to have it as straight as possible, it must be pushed all to one side (because the lever itself is off center). The frog needed excessive cleaning up with a diamond bit to grind off excess steel because 1) the two top screw holes were of different sizes making it impossible to straighten it and 2) the depression above the blade/cap/lever cap assembly screw, where the cap iron screw sits and must slide down to allow the blade depth to be adjusted - out of the box, there was so much excess metal that the blade could not even be lowered enough to make a cut. After making room for the blade to at least get to a functional depth, it only barely worked to take off a few very rough shavings. The assembly and manufacturing is just too out of line and rough for it to function properly. ... show more
