Description

Black Beauties electric guitar strings with K3 Technology. The K3 coating is the first coating that players report, "sound as good or better than uncoated strings." DR's remarkable and proprietary K3 Technology coating is the first coating that makes no apologies and no excuses for not delivering sound equal to uncoated strings. Players tell us that these strings have more volume, less unwanted overtones, greater clarity and articulation than standard, uncoated strings. Yet, they provide the same protection due to corrosion and perspiration as well as increased tone life that coated strings are known for. From the Manufacturer BLACK BEAUTIES™ Black Colored Electric Guitar Strings aren’t just about the sleek and sophisticated look. They feature a hexagonal core wire and a nickel-plated steel wrap wire to maintain brightness and feel. All strings in the set are coated with a je

  • My new Go-To..
Size: 10-46 Style: Guitar Strings
I've been playing with flatwound strings for over twenty years. On a whim I chose to try Black Beauties. I usually play 7-string guitar but I do have one 6-string Hofner with custom pickups that I consider my secret weapon. I first purchased a pack for the six-string. I was very pleasantly surprised. They weren't as smooth as what I've gotten used to, but the are smooth enough. "String-Noise" is negligible and everything about them is perfectly balanced. The tone is perfect, not too harsh, not too dull. The most impressive thing I've found is that the tone itself across all six strings is just right. Other brands, the bass strings can be too bassy, and the trebles can be too shrill. I next purchased a pack for my Carvin seven-string. I'm sticking with Black Beauties on all my guitars. I really, really like them. P.S. My original review was written March 7. This update is on the 12th. I just read a bunch of other reviews on these strings and I just don't understand. People are saying that the coating is coming off and the strings are breaking, and I just don't get it because I've not had any problems at all. I am very rough on strings. I pull on them, tug on them, and basically kick the crap out of them because if you don't do that, they constantly go out of tune. My picking style may not be as aggressive, but I torture my strings and make sure they hold up. Once again, in my experience, these strings are very good. They've been on my Carvin just a little less than a month, and they've been on my Hofner for just a little over. I do play everyday, but each guitar goes through about a week of action before I switch off again. I personally have not had any problems. ... show more

  • Possibly the best electric strings?
Size: 10-46 Style: Guitar Strings
This is my second set of colored strings from DR, and I love them! They look great and I’m really amazed at how long they last! Awesome strings.

  • very good strings!!
Size: 10-46 Style: Guitar Strings
the strings give a great tone, i will probably get more of these strings some day. only problem i had with them is the black coating comes off fairly easily in the general area you strum, but so far none has come off on the frets.great product.

  • Strings sound good but the coating is not durable
Size: 10-46 Style: Guitar Strings
I have never used coated strings before but thought I would give them a whirl. I have used DR blues strings and they are great. I like that DR are made in US and are overall good quality merch. I was disappointed in these simply because the coating is already starting to come off and I have literally only had them on a day. With the shiny metal underneath becoming exposed it really shows in contrast to the black. When putting them on the guitar I noticed some of the coating stripped when I was using pliers to crimp the ends but figured it was just the abrasive metal causing the issue. I've played on these maybe two hours so far and already the coating is stripping in the area between pickups where I strum the most. The sound is good and the coating makes sliding less frictiony, but the durability of the coating does not appear to be long lasting. I'm going to keep them on there for now as they sound fine but I will probably not use coated strings again after this. ... show more

  • Strings look awesome...for about half an hour
Size: 10-46 Style: Guitar Strings
The main reason anyone is looking at these strings is for the black coating, which does look very cool and seems to be pretty durable on the wound strings. On the 1st and 2nd strings though, it flakes off easily. I noticed the first bare spot on the 1st string while I was still dialing in the bridge height (the bare spot was not at the bridge). After about 45 minutes of light practice, there were many bare spots on the 1st string, as shown in the photos. This does not look as cool. They have the feel of coated strings. I have a lot more trouble with the D string sticking in the nut (a tusq nut) than with my previous strings, which didn't stick at all. Someone else's review mentioned that they are surprisingly loud when you play unplugged, and I agree. ... show more

  • Broke 2 e strings in 2 weeks
Size: 10-46 Style: Guitar Strings
First of all, let me assure you, I do not play rough and I do not play often. I have a guitar sitting behind me to noodle around on once in a while if I need a break from work. I purchased my first set of these strings because I thought the black coating would look cool. Yeah, they do but the high E broke the day after I put them on. Keep in mind I've been playing for over 20 years and I am confident I don't have any burrs or sharp edges on my nut or bridge. After the initial shock of having a string break so soon I figured it must have been a dud and I'll give them another chance. I bought installed the 2nd high E and within a week, BONG! That broke too. I am going back to GHS or D'Addario. Do not buy these strings if you intend on actually playing your instrument. Oh, the black is already coming off the other strings that didn't snap. Pure junk. Update: Installed a 3rd high e string since I originally bought 3 packs. This one lasted about an hour before breaking. Again, I've been playing for over 20 years and have never had issues with strings breaking like this. Pure garbage. ... show more

  • If you love the feel of old strings then get these.
Size: 10-46 Style: Guitar Strings
Just as I said, I love the way old strings feel, but I do not like the sound of them. Since they're painted they give the feel of old "broken in" dirty strings even though they sound brand new. They also hold up well with floyd roses and tremolo's, I've done a bunch of dive bombs and squeals with these and they've held up great. These are by far my favorite strings, and I've tried many brands and gauge's, but these feel the best. ... show more
