  • Performs well if you can accept its compromises to give you wire-free over the door installation
Overall. DoorCam has compromises to give you easy to install, wire free setup. However, you have to decide if those compromises are deal breakers for you. Slow startup after detection leads to missing 2-3 seconds of video that might be what you want/need. Night vision quality is fairly poor comparted to my older Samsung Cam (indoor). Lack of viable Live View (available but quick to drain batteries) is a factor. I plan to return because these compromises are too much for me. But it works as advertised and there are few options out there that can provide its features in a wire free, door friendly form. Package Opening. Item was well packed. With 3 D batteries as needed to power it up. The Quick Start Guide showed items under "What's In The Box" and my kit was missing the hex wrench and a small battery cover screw. I can provide my own but that is a quality issue. Quick Start Guide. If all goes well, this guide walks you through setup just fine. It provides just the minimum information though. - The pic shows a few items without explanation that I could use to better understand the device but if you don't care then you can ignore it. For me, PIR sensor and ALS sensor could use a bit of explantion. Google it and they mean Passive Infrared sensor, i.e. the motion sensor, and Ambient Light Sensor, i.e. the light level sensor. - The registration process has a step (#8) to select and connect to your home network. For better or worse, I have two with the same name, one being a 2.4GHz and the other being 5Gz. Even if I named them distinctly, the Quick Start Guide provides no guidance. I picked the first in my list and it worked. Looking at online Remo+ support did show the device supports 2.4GHz only. Initial performance. I placed it onto inside door to play with it after connecting and configuring. I configured the Night Mode setting to Auto and the night mode pic was very dark with purple/red coloration. Not a very clear pic of a dark doorway. And motion detection was slow as was the phone's push notification. Setting for Motion Push Notifications is Standard and since no info is provided in the box, I used the app Support link to the web to get some details on settings. After setting Motion Push Notifications to Frequent I got quicker phone notification and also for each motion event. After a week's use, the startup is slow and typically misses the first 2-3 seconds. This can be a dealbreaker for some users. - The notifications that I accept allow me to interact but quit after 60 seconds. I don't see any controls to adjust the time to a larger max to interact with someone at the door. - After changing a device setting in the remo+ app you need to press the Status button on the device. When I do that, a fairly quiet doorbell chime sounds on the device. I never hear that otherwise. Though it would be quiet, it might be nice to be able to have a user setting to allow that chime when motion is detected. That would be quicker than the phone notification and get to over to my phone quicker I think. remo+ app. - I am able to save clips to phone which then show up in my Google Photos where I can also review, delete, save to Google cloud. Remo+ should store a few events locally and allow user to do this without any need for cloud. The Remo+ cloud subscription is reasonable but annoying for those who don't really want longer term storage. - I am unable to share clips from remo+ app. Every time I try this the app crashes and I have to restart/reload it. This is with Android 8.1. - The Recent Activity list of clips could be better organized. Maybe show same day events individually but older events push into a folder (per day or week) to avoid a long list of events. Perhaps also show a duration of clip next to the snapshot?. ... show more

  • Needs some work!
I bought this door camera because my wife’s package was left in front of our door a few days before Christmas, and $700 dollars worth of Christmas gift items went missing. UPS claimed they delivered the package, so I can only assume someone in the building stole it, or UPS lied and did not deliver the package and just kept it. Since we had no surveillance, we were left to assume what happened. Purchased the camera shortly after the incident. I was keeping my fingers cross that the camera itself would not get stolen on a missed delivery. Installation was straight forward. Once I got everything setup and starting testing out the features, I admittedly noticed the delay in from when the motion sensor is activated to it capturing activity. This is due to the camera having to wake up from a sleep state. I’m mainly affected since I live an appartment and the approach is from the side. This really hinders the camera’s performance. The camera will pick up activity by tenants as long as they are not moving briskly. Some days it will work good and other days a slew of missed motion events with no pictures. For example, today I received a ton of missed notifications with no videos. However, later in the day the camera caught USPS leaving a package in front of my door after I explicitly left a note on my door forbidden any deliverys to be left in front of my door. Parcel delivery people really make me sick! I digress. The battery life is terrible with live view enabled. Drained batteries within 2.5 weeks due to high activity by the neighbor across the hall. I really want to like this camera, I do hope the remo team can up with a fix to address the underlying issues. ... show more

  • I want to really really love this! I’ve been looking for something like this ...
I want to really really love this! I’ve been looking for something like this for a long time. Overall it’s a product I would recommend and already have. The setup was extremely easy and I like that it has the ability to live view. The camera quality is sufficient and I have had no issues with erroneous motion activations or lag times. However, there are some improvements needed. It’s super frustrating when you try to live view or accept a motion alert and the image won’t upon until the third or fourth try and the person at the door has already left. I often get the alert or attempt to view live and the image remains black with the spinning circle before the video screen “closes” and jumps to “Recent Activity”. These same actions will happen repeatedly before I can view an image. Even if I close and reopen the app. Customer Service was great and their support team should be I touch soon to address this issue. I sure hope those kinks can be worked out because this good product has the potential to be absolutely amazing. ... show more

  • Started out OK now drains batteries in a week or two
I bought this for my apartment. It is EXTREMELY easy to set up and use. The original concern I had was the orange background in the pictures but this is common for these devices. Hopefully, they can provide an update to fix this. The BIGGEST concerns I have are these three things. First, there is no way to limit the motion sections as it constantly goes off and alerts me. Second, the delay from when motion is detected to when the video records are about a second or two behind. It should capture immediately as most of the captures show the person already leaving the frames. Finally, and the biggest concern I have now, is that the battery life drains in a week or two. I set it to Live View once, which says it will drain the batteries quickly, and saw that they drained by half in a few days. I, therefore, changed it back and disabled live view. Pushed the button as it said however from that day forward the batteries drain in a week or two. I cannot get them to last. I just put new batteries in this past Monday and they are already almost halfway dead again in 5 days. THIS MUST BE FIXED by REMO! Once they die, I will probably take the thing off and just sell it as I am not putting in 3 D size batteries every tweo weeks. ... show more
