My dogs like the kelp, this it was a good price, and my dogs like the flavor it adds to their food. I will buy again.

  • It works!!
Size: 3 pound
Full disclosure, I’m attacking my dogs’ (bichons, 2 and 3 years old) tartar issues from all angles. They’ve been on the kelp for 5 weeks, brushing with CET toothpaste nightly for about 2 months, and they get the occasional raw lamb shank or rack of beef rib to try to scrape away any accumulation naturally. I hadn’t seen much progress. No additional accumulation, but no real improvement. Not until like 20 minutes ago. They had just finished their lamb shanks and I checked my 2 year old’s teeth, hoping she scraped off some tartar. She hadn’t. Her teeth weren’t awful, but there was a moderate amount of gross brown tartar on her top canines and a little bit on the pre molars right behind canines. I took a fingernail and tried to scrape, like I have a couple times a week for the last month. But this time IT WORKED. Half of the tartar came off in a flake! I scraped the rest off that tooth, went to the next - that came off too! All 4 teeth that had tartar are now basically tartar-free!!! You can see a line on the tooth where the tartar was, from the gum line down. I’m sure that will come off with a little scraping. My 3 year old has a thinner layer of tartar, but on the same teeth. She was much less willing to let me scrape but I did manage to get a flake off before she yanked her head away! I have tried scraping their teeth so often and this is the first time it’s actually done any good. I’m seriously thrilled. Like I said, I’m using a few products and I’ll keep brushing and giving them raw meaty bones. (I’ve cleaned their teeth before just by giving them raw bones daily but I’m paranoid about them cracking teeth) I really do feel like the kelp is a game changer. First photo is of my 2 year old’s now (almost) tartar-free teeth (the line is where the tartar ended). Second photo is of my 3 year old’s teeth, with a flake right at the center of the tooth scraped off. I’m sure the rest will come off when she lets me scrape again. The 2 year old’s teeth were a little worse, the tartar was thicker and there was a dark line of accumulation right at the gum line. I’m giving the kelp to my 1 year old cat as well. His teeth are perfect (though they were perfect when I started giving it to him). None of the animals love the taste, there was some hesitancy when I first started giving it to them, but they’ve gotten used to it mixed into their food. And given these results, everyone is going to keep getting kelp for the foreseeable future. ... show more

  • it's unlikely to make the gland perform better, but I'm curious to see the results
Size: 6 pound
My greyhound was diagnosed with having low thyroid two years ago. We would get his blood checked and kept increasing the dosage that I finally got fed up with him being on "hormones" and after reading other reviews on this product I decided to try it out. The entire time with the oversight of my vet who knew I was frustrated at the constant change in dosage of my dog's thyroid medication. The vet supported me taking the dog off the medication under the condition we would monitor his blood closely. He checked my dog's blood 30 days before we started my dog on the Kelp (to make sure we had a baseline) and asked I bring him in after six months after that. Well , we just went last weekend to get his blood work and the vet candidly warned me not to expect the Kelp to have helped. The vet even said "It's an issue where your dog's glands are just not working properly, so even though we are giving him this kelp, it's unlikely to make the gland perform better, but I'm curious to see the results, just not optimistic"... Well.. I'm happy to report my dog's blood results are back and to our astonishment, his thyroid levels are NORMAL!! (They're on the lower range of normal but that is common for greyhounds so it's "his normal" and the Vet said "keep him on the kelp!".). We are really happy with this product. The best part is I had noticed a difference within 3 weeks of taking it but the vet thought it was "all in my head". I've had my dog 4 years and the entire time my dog's butt was bald and he was a lethargic dog who didn't play. I was told the hair would not grow back and that it was caused by sitting so long in a cage during his racing days and that they're known as "couch potatoes". Within a few weeks of taking the product my dog's hair on his butt not only grew back but his entire coat was getting softer. My dog now has the softest I've ever felt on a dog. My friends who visit and pet him notice it right away and even joke that he's like a "mink blanket" and the change in his mood/behavior was also noticeable after 3 weeks. He has been more active, playful and now we know it was the kelp. I am very happy with this product and I recommend it to anyone looking for alternative treatment to medication for hormone balance. I advise to talk to your veterinarian about it too because there may be other health conditions related and the veterinarian will help monitor the dog. The more informed your vet is the better. ... show more

  • Did it work as magically for my dog?
Size: 12 ounce
Decent purchase- 12 ounces for $15. A scoop is included so you know the correct amount to give every time- it might be hard to see if you have poor eyesight though. As always check with your vet and adhere to recommendations- you do not want to harm your dog's thyroid gland and the sensitive body balance it has. Norway is said to have good clean waters- so the kelp grown there should be good. I bought this as a supplement and mainly for dental care. Supposedly the dog ingests the kelp, when it gets digested and absorbed into the bloodstream- you see the effects when it is secreted through their salivary glands which then coats the teeth/plaque/tartar. Unlike others who say the tartar flaked right off- it had no such obvious effects with my pup. To be fair I also brush her teeth relatively regularly (almost every night) so the tartar build up wasn't bad at all. Taste wise- seems decent enough. My pup can be picky- I don't see her intentionally avoiding the kelp granules, but I don't see her licking the bowl clean like others say. I cleaned her teeth with a dental scaler for the first time- and the tartar was relatively easy to scrape off. Her breath improved, so that's definitely nice. I would like to at least attribute that to this product. lol. Would I buy this again? Once I used this bottle up- I will wait a bit to see if I notice something negative (bad breath, plaque build up, etc) then I'll know for sure! ... show more
