  • Impressive Advanced Medleys with Lots of Runs
Finally, an advanced book filled with classic songs. The arrangements are beautiful and actually require some practicing to get the hang of. If you want a book with easy songs that have the theme in the right hand and some chordal accompaniment in the left hand, don't buy this book. The arrangements are written for veteran piano players and have a lot of fast runs and sixteenth note passages. That said, if you've been looking for a good challenge and like these popular songs, you should definitely buy this book. ... show more

  • It's harder than other arrangments
Most of the disney piano sheet music that I searched up online is fairly easy and great for beginners, but I was looking for something advanced. And this book, was exactly what I wanted. It's filled with syncopation, polyrhythms, musicality: everything a classical pianist could ever ask for. I'd say it's at least late intermediate level. So a warning: if you haven't been studying classical piano for at least five years yet, this might be a little too difficult. ... show more

  • Finally, a challenging book!
This has awesome arrangements in it! I have gotten tired of piano solo books that are not really that difficult. This one does not disappoint. Easily Level 6. It's like playing a Beethoven or Chopin piano sonata.

  • Advanced pieces with wandering passages
I have a number of Phillip Keveren books that I've enjoyed, including some of his Disney books. I'm slightly disappointed in this one. His arrangements are beautiful, but I think he indulges himself a little too much sometimes. All of these arrangements seem to have long cantible passages that have nothing to do with the piece. Where is the melody? What happened to the song I was playing? I get that it's an arrangement, but I wish he'd stick to a song so it could be recognized. These are difficult pieces that are for intermediate and advanced players. I'm unsure if I'd order more of his arrangements. ... show more

  • Love!
Challenging arrangements of my favorite songs!

  • The best piano arrangement available for these Disney pieces.
I don't do a lot of reviews, but the one SINGLE review that was up for this book was so unfair, I felt a responsibility to contradict it--especially since I have a great appreciation for Phillip Keveren. He is completely unique in that he writes music FOR piano players. If you purchased the Little Mermaid Songbook, you would get a watered-down version of the melody and chords for the piano. Basically, most music books have the piano part just as an accompaniment to the singing part. And don't get me wrong: I still enjoy playing them, and they're worth getting when there's no other arrangement available. But upon playing my first Keveren arrangement, I immediately started purchasing as many of his books as I could find. He doesn't just transcribe a simplified version of a song or theme, he really crafts it for the piano, so that what you end up playing is very musical and flows so well from your fingers. Now, specifically addressing his Disney Recital Suites: the last reviewer stated that Keveren just put a lot of unnecessary passages that obscured the melody. That is absolutely true...if you are a piano neophyte still struggling through big-note books of "easy piano." The pieces in this book are advanced (EARLY advanced), and if you can't even come close to playing them at-speed, then all of the intricate parts WILL make it hard to make out the melody of the piece. But when the pieces are played competently, and at the right speed, they become very enjoyable and enhance the very distinguishable melody with a good flavor. So come to this book ready to practice, and it will probably be the best piano version of these Disney pieces that you will find anywhere. ... show more

  • I haven't had this much fun in years!
I agree with mrdarcy0519. From my own experience these pieces are beautiful, fun, challenging, and extremely rewarding to play. Other reviewers mention the melody being obscured, I have found that for the most part the melody is in the piece you just have to learn how to bring it out which is part of the challenge I love in these particular pieces. I have only had this music for less than a month, I have played through most of the songs once and so I have a feel for how they are arranged. I chose to tackle The Lion King first, it is the shortest of the four and when I ran through Be Prepared for the first time I stopped playing the other songs and decided to focus on that one, it is absolutely stunning in my opinion. If you want a challenge, if you want something that will sound absolutely majestic, then I highly recommend this book, I've loved every moment I've been working in it! I would not recommend for anyone who is not late intermediate or above. ... show more
