    • Watered down Christianity at best, the standard of Lifeway
I hope this is the last Lifeway “Bible Study” that I ever have the good sense to pick up. I am addressing this to my fellow Christian women specifically because we are who these studies seem to be targeted at and we should be insulted. You are brighter and deeper than this ladies. Discerning the Voice of God, no matter how many times it has been printed and reprinted, and revised is still at its heart another Lifeway study in which women may be dazzled by how dynamic the speaker in the video accompaniments is, but left with a simple concept that has been dragged out through a $16 book. It should also be noted that Lifeway often calls books like Shirer's a "Bible study" - it is not. These are BOOK studies, that throw in scripture references wherever the author sees fit, often without the proper context of surrounding scripture, and without the context of historical, and sacred tradition. These types of books are dangerous to both the seasoned and new believer and ought to be avoided. I am sure Lifeway and Schirer both genuinely want women to grow in their Christian faith. That would be fine, if the books weren't harmful to that process because of how watered down they are. If you are just seeking warm fuzzies from a book study you will get that from this book, but please take a moment to question who you are actually trying to have a closer encounter with - Priscilla Schirer or Jesus Christ? Without spending $16-18 - if you want to discern the voice of God you need to focus on your relationship with God. You need to be in His word fully (not the snippets you get in these book studies). You need to be spending time in prayer with Him, not wasting it with this book. You need to be in devotional and fellowship time with other mature believers who will sharpen you – not in a one-sided exchange with Priscilla Schirer, who may be lovely, truly, but that doesn't mean her book is the right tool for growing in your faith. It doesn’t change the fact that Lifeway encourages us to be enamored with a speaker/author when we should be in awe of our Creator. There are too many studies like this that local churches, no matter where I live keep picking up for “Women’s Bible Study” and it is so disappointing. I don’t want everything “pinkified” as if women are too simple to read something with meat to it. I want material with substance. I want things that challenge me in my faith. This just doesn’t. You watch a 40-MINUTE long video, which regurgitates what you already read that week in your book just with more “amens” and pacing back and forth by the author. The book literally comes pre-highlighted for the author’s key points, and then follows up with questions that ask you to fill in the blank with what was highlighted immediately above it. If you are asked to read a section of scripture and draw a conclusion or answer a question, not 1 sentence later does the author give that very answer or conclusion. This is the kind of workbook you are getting, be prepared. Most group study meetings are at best 2-hours long, which means almost half your time is spent listening to Schirer speak about what you already read. That is not good stewardship of time you could be spending with the Lord and His Word. Many Christian women are craving more and if given the chance to really dig deep into large sections of scripture rather than cherry picked verses they wouldn't be in awe of authors like Schirer but rather eager to learn and grow and be in the Word and with the Lord more. Maybe they would even be able to discern His voice, without the theatrics. In response to comments about review: No I am not a competitor and YES I do have an agenda - to warn other Christian women against books like this because I care enough about my sisters in Christ to speak up.     • Blown Away by this Bible Study- My Favorite Study in 30yrs!
I read some reviews on this Book and Bible study and I was honestly a little fearful. Some reviews said that this was a study built on New Age Ideas or contemplative prayer, or was unscriptural, that God spoke through His word and NOT to us directly any more. Well as a Christian for 48yrs, I knew that last statement simply was not true as God has spoken to me many times over the years, and let me just say that there is no mistaking the Voice of God! Yet because of their statements I entered into this study wary... Well, may I say that my fears were as unfounded as their accusations!!! This study has been my favorite Bible study ever. I have loved every minute of it. Over and over Priscilla states that every time you believe God has spoken to you, we have to confirm it by with the Word of God as He will never contradict His Word. She doesn't give room for interpretation of the Bible or twisting its truths. This Book and Bible Study is BIBLICAL, truthful, insightful, life changing, motivating and encouraging. I love Priscilla's real life examples that tie into her lessons. I love her energy and her passion for God and His Word. I love her gentle way of pushing us toward greater knowledge and greater commitment to our faith and her emphasis on being OBEDIENT to God's Word, Voice and Instruction. This Bible study has spurred me on to a deeper relationship with God and even though some people have said that hearing the voice of God is just a SIMPLE basic teaching of the Bible it is a GREAT one!! I have loved this Bible study so much I am going to do it again. I love Charles Stanley and I love Joyce Meyer and now I love Priscilla Shirer. Don't listen to naysayers who obviously do not have a personal relationship with God, because if they did they would hear his voice in their hearts through the Holy Spirit themselves. Don't be afraid, its not new age or hokey, it's LIFE CHANGING if you read it, do it, and obey God as He speaks to you. ... show more

A great study to help believers better understand the Holy Spirit and how He speaks to us. If you struggle to really understand how to hear the Holy Spirit I would highly recommend this book! The way she explains things makes it very easy to understand and she also has so much Scripture being focused on instead of just relying on her experiences. A great study, even without watching the videos. My pastor's wife and I meet and do studies weekly and depending on the study we may do it without the video and this one we chose to try without the videos and still gained a ton and didn't feel as though it was lacking as a stand alone book to work through. ... show more

    • Take it slow and be prepared to do some serious connecting to God himself
This deserves 10 stars out of 5...I have done many bible studies but The Lord has truly blessed this message going out to people. She begins with our need to position ourselves in obedience. Whoa...some people might not exactly like to hear someone telling you to humble yourself right out the door but let’s not forget in which manner God himself left His throne and humbled Himself for us! Even if you’re not in the season of desperately needing to hear from God there is just wisdom to be gleaned, straight from His Word as she supports everything she writes about and of course I appreciate. This book has been revolutionary for me at this time, not just I’m needing to hear from Him but God has used this study to “coincidentally” reach into other parts of my life. ... show more
