  • Great multimeter for the money
I've used most of the functions, and so far, they are fine, and even measured some resistors and the readings are in spec. I bought this multimeter for home use, and I use to be an electronic tech. before moving into software engineering. I like the large readout and how the back light comes on even by shielding it with your hand. The auto ranging also works okay and the fuses are easy to get at. It uses the standard banana jack which is useful as I have many leads left over from my tech days that have heavier gage wire and gator clips. The meter side holders for the leads are a plus along with the magnet. The wrist strap is poor and easily broke, but that's minor. The supplied leads are a smaller gage then the leads I have, and I wouldn't measure very high voltage with them. So, if you are looking for a useful meter for general home use, I highly recommend this one. You can buy heavier wire like what Home Depot carries, and shop around for larger gator clips/jacks, and make your own leads. ... show more

  • It's no Fluke meter.
Color: AC/DC 20A & Mechanical Block 770M
This review is for the BTMETER BT-770M multi meter. 2-24 Let's keep in mind that we are talking about a $35.00 meter here. If you're expecting the quality of a Fluke, then you had better stop here and move on. Now, with that said, let's look at this meter. The meter was purchased because the Fluke had an issue, and a replacement was in need. The meter seems well enough made. Some of the features are nice, while others, like the lockouts on the lead connections, could become a PIA if the tool was used every day for multiple tasks. The selection dial is very hard to read, at least it is for this old guy. Many of the selections should have been covered under the " auto settings mode " instead of having to select from multiple options within the same test range. If there is one, I couldn't find a switch so that the backlight could be turned on. It seems that the backlight only comes on as the area around the meter darkens. " Photo cell " There's not really anything that stands out on this meter, other than it did have separate a mode for capacitance testing. That, and the temperature prob, were the main reasons that this meter was picked over many others. I do not expect that this meter will see much use, so I'm hoping that the meter will last awhile. Oh, the meter has already paid for itself by tracking down the bad resistor in the Fluke meter. That repair of the Fluke would have been quite expensive by the time shipping and all that was added in to a repair, if the Fluke was sent in for repair. So...is this meter worth the money, I'd say yes. I mean really, we are talking about $35.00 here, and let's face it, $35.00 does not go far these days. Is it accurate? Well, it went head to head with the Fluke and held it's own. Could it be trusted for building a rocket launcher...most likely not! If you're just starting out and need an inexpensive meter that covers many things, this is a good choice. Oh, this meter also has a port for testing transistors and such. Never seen that on a multi meter before, not that that means much. As always, if you're a pro looking for a test meter, or other such items... what are you doing looking at $35.00 tools? IMO, this meter is not intended for commercial use! Good luck. ... show more

  • The best "$20 meter" I have ever had!
I have already been telling co-workers looking for a meter to get this. I have only had it a few days, but I have been putting it "through its paces" in the ways I'm most likely to use it, in a shop environment. PROS- I lined it up against my Snap-on meter to check accuracy. (I was skeptical of a cheapo meters accuracy). The results blew my mind! I tested it on 8v golf cart batteries & 48v packs of batteries. It was dead on, same readings , less than 0.05v difference! It has features that even the high-end meters dont come with. Like wrist strap & magnet to hold it. And the backlight with auto-dimming is something I'm not used to having. Pointed leads & alligator clips included, and a temp sensor. The fuses are very easy to replace, and common fuses. CONS- very few. The meter leads have a little "cheap feeling" to them, and the "alligator clips" are a little small, I guess I'm being picky here. Half-way decent meter leads cost $25 by themselves. (And once you use good leads, you might add them to this). Overall, I dont think you could spend $20 better for a meter anywhere else, do this one for "low cost meter" price range. Many miles ahead of Harbor Freight's meter at that price range. ... show more

  • Auto backlit, loads of functions, in a meter you can wear, hold, stand, and magnetize.
Let me start by explaining I'm not an electrician, and my interest with the product is minor low voltage diagnostics, and basic power detection. I gotta say for the features you get, and the ease of it's use, make this meter a great buy. I really like how the screen automatically detects low-level light and kicks on the backlighting for the screen. The battery testing settings will prove really handy for me too. I'm also interested in the temperature sensor for finding drafty areas around the house this winter. Bottom line: This baby will have at least one feature/function (out of the several built-in) that will make it worth your money. ... show more

  • Nice little meter and the temp option is a bonus
I got this as a backup/loaner meter for when my friends try to take my expensive Fluke. This one is a lot cheaper in construction but it works well and is accurate. It may not last as long as my Fluke but it is a decent meter and a good starter/traveling toolbox set.
