Maybe I am off on this but when I recently had to replace my reciprocating saw and bought a new DeWalt I was shocked at battery prices, especially when the price of the battery was more than the price of the saw. After I was revived by the paramedics and left the store (I really did not have to be revived - that was to make a point) I went to Amazon and looked for a battery that would work in my DeWalt and not require a second mortgage. And so I bought this battery. I have not had it long but so far it works well, charges pretty quick and lasts a decent amount of time. It does what I require it to do and it does not die on me only after a few minutes. The price was good so at this point I cannot complain.     • Appear to be genuine
The batteries I received appear to be genuine DeWalt. I have not had them long enough to comment on longevity but the one I've used to date seems to be working well. I used it with my string trimmer to weed whack a strip of pretty dense vegitation (mix of weeds and grasses) about 3ft x 30ft and that didn't seem to run the battery down but I would not expect it to since my 4Ah battery can do about nine or ten times that area before going flat. So, not a definitive test with regard to charge holding ability but at least I know it's delivering current like it should out of the box. If I find these batteries don't hold up as well as I'm expecting I will post an update. ... show more

    • Good balance of Weight and Battery Life
Works great on my DeWalt blower. I can blow off my large two car driveway twice before needing to charge. Much better than the smaller DeWalt batteries. They also don’t get hot when charging. Good value for money.

    • Amazon offers it at a good price but deWalt batteries seem to have frequent failures
The 5Ah deWalt battery is currently offered by Amazon at half price. This is great except that you have to be prepared that the battery may not be able to charge. I have a variety of deWalt tools (and I try to expand my collection). My older tools are 18V which I converted to 20V with deWalt's 18-to-20 V converter. (See my related review.) A few of my 18V batteries failed soon after purchase. They worked well initially but within a month they were useless. I was too lazy to complain or exchange so I just took the loss. Recently I bought a 5Ah battery from Amazon. This was the first time I bought the 5Ah; all my other batteries came with the tools and they were lower rated. However, this battery would not charge at all. The chargers (more than one) were all indicating that it was was fully charged. Eventually, I realized that the battery charging pins were not engaging correctly with the charger pins. This time I requested an exchange that Amazon did without delays. The replacement actually is working well. Only time will show how long it will last. The strange thing is that, in one of the company flyers, it is mentioned that deWalt cannot guarantee that all their batteries work well although they try to achieve excellence. I think this is a deWalt's way to tell customer's that they are fully aware about the problems of their batteries. From my point of view --- a loyal customer to deWalt --- this is very disheartening. And I am not alone; many other customers report it (as can be also verified by reading reviews on Amazon). Whatever the problem is with the production line, it should have been fixed and not be allowed to continue. ... show more
