Wow! This Angle drill(DCD740C1) has power. And my 20v battery from my other Dewalt drill works perfect.

Style: Drill/Driver Set
I have only drilled about 100 holes so far but this makes simple work of drilling 2x4 studs for NM wire. An "auger" bit helps immensely.

  • 20 volt max is the way to go
Style: Drill/Driver Set
I am doing a major addition plus some refurbishing of my house. Since I am doing most of the work myself, my reward is to buy the tools I want to use for the job. My first purchase last August was the new 20v max impact wrench and hammer drill kit to replace my dying 18 volt drills. I am now utterly sold on the 20v max tools. They are typically lighter, more compact, and a bit more powerful than the older 18v tools. In the case of this angle drill, I am doing quite a bit of drilling in tight places for electrical, plumbing, and AC lines - holes up to 3" through double plates and subfloor. This 20v max angle drill powers a 2 1/2" hole saw right through the double 2x4s plus flooring. It will do about 4 holes like that on a charge. Recharging takes about 15 minutes or so. I have 3 batteries and 2 chargers and I can't work as fast as they are recharged. Of course, the charge lasts much much longer if I am drilling smaller holes or running screws. Compared to the 18v angle drill, this one is very slightly more compact, front to back, plus it will let the bit slip 1/4" farther into the chuck. I've found that when working in very tight spaces those two factors can make the difference in being able to do the job. The one negative is the chuck. It is not that the outside is plastic, as some have complained - that is just the part you grip, and I have never had one come apart. It is that the drill has an instant stop feature at the shaft and the rotational momentum of the chuck collar causes it to loosen when the trigger is released. Obviously this is more pronounced when the higher speed selection is used - it is spinning faster when it is stopped. So I have spent a lot of time re-tightening the hole saw each time I stop to remove on of the sections of 2z4 when drilling double plates plus subfloor. this brings up the 2 speeds. They are each somewhat faster than the speeds on the 18v model which is a plus. To sum up, if you are drilling joists for wiring or plumbing a large house, a cordless is probably not the best choice regardless of which make or model, but for most projects this drill is more than up to the task in power and utility, and is competitive in the number of holes it will drill on a charge. The light weight and the steady power from the Li battery combined with the slightly reduced size and improved speeds make it a better choice than the 18v, if you are willing to pay a little more. ... show more

  • The New Normal
Style: Drill/Driver Set
Bought my first DeWalt DCD740C1 20V Max angle drill kit in May 2018 from Amazon. Been a workhorse, and still going strong, but decided I wanted a second one to speed up some close quarters projects by not having to swap back and forth drill bits to drivers, so ordered another from Amazon (NOT from a third party seller either time - Amazon direct). FIRST purchase came with a great hard case that, after some Dremel work modifying it, holds a ton of stuff along with the drill. THIS exact same number kit DeWalt DCD740C1 just received today comes not with a hard case now but with one of DeWalt's few cheapo low quality products, namely their 'tool bag'... The picture on Amazon accompanying the drill 'Kit' is not correct....no more hard case unless you buy one separately, IF you can get one from another source. Same drill, same charger, same basic 1.5Ah battery, but a simple cloth bag container. In fairness, I have 2 other of these same bags from various other DeWalt purchases, and they DO hold a ton and hold up better than they look like they would, but do NOT protect the contents at all. The 'new normal' is, it appears, buy same, get less. My fault, I suppose, because I should have known that a kit I paid 188 bucks for 2 1/2 years ago would not be the equal of one I paid 35 bucks less for this time, despite the same part number. ... show more

  • Bag zipper material ripped with one zip 1st time
Style: Drill/Driver Set
I have not used the tool yet however I just opened it tonight I unzipped the bag and closed it and the corner tore already (see pix). All my other plastic hard case dewalt tools still still have not broken. I, like others am disappointed with the soft case. I will contact Dewalt and see if they'll replace it or ship me a new one however, I won't go through all the trouble of sending things back I just don't have the time to deal with it. Will let you know how the tool works. I have a lot of duct work to put in and holes to cut. I'll give Dewalt a chance to make it right. ... show more
