🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The reviews collectively praise the compact and lightweight design of DeWalt's power tool batteries, emphasizing their remarkable power and efficiency for their size. Customers appreciate the longer lifespan and cooler operation compared to regular batteries, especially in high-demand tools. However, they do note limited runtime compared to larger batteries and a higher price point as minor drawbacks.

Pros

  • 🔋 Super light and powerful for their size
  • 🕒 Holds a charge longer than aftermarket alternatives
  • 🔨 Exceptional performance in high discharge applications like hammer drilling
  • 🌡️ Stays cool under heavy use
  • ➖ Compact size saves on space without compromising on power

Cons

  • ⏳ Limited runtime for full-day projects
  • 💸 Higher price point than some alternatives
  • 🔄 Some incidents of needing replacement due to faulty units

Should I Buy It?

If you're looking for high-performance, compact batteries for your power tools and don't mind paying a bit extra for quality, these DeWalt batteries are a solid investment. They're especially recommended for heavy-duty tasks that require a lot of power in a short period. However, if you plan to use them for all-day projects regularly, you might want to consider backup options due to their limited runtime.

  • Incredible power
For most applications you won’t be able to tell the difference between regular batteries and the powerstack. But for very high discharge tools like hammer drill on thick concrete the difference is massive. The tool speed is much higher and you can actually drill more holes before recharging. I am comparing the 3 amp regular lithium ion vs the 1.8 amp powerstack. The regular battery is almost unusable while the powerstack frees the drill to do what it is designed to. The regular battery gets very hot while the powerstack stays cool. Very impressive. And much cheaper on Amazon. ... show more

  • Surprised how much I like them
They won't power a grinder for a full job, but for a drill or oscillator or impact it has plenty of juice for a regular home owner repairs. Like how not bulky and light they are. I still have plenty of 6ah an 9ah for my blowers, bandsaw and SDS hammer drill, but these have their use.

  • Perfect for drills, impacts, and quick cuts
I've had these for about a year, what I wanted was a LIGHTWEIGHT battery for my drill and impact that would also have enough power to use for an occasional burst in a bigger tool like my 6.5" circular saw. I think they deliver on that. It helps to understand what these are: a light battery that is ONLY 1.7 ah that can put out the juice of a 5 ah XR for a short time - that's it. On a drill or impact for a few dozen holes/fasteners (not huge ones) the work great. Need to make a couple of crosscuts or short rips - yep, OK for that, too. If you need to do a lot of fasteners, larger stuff or longer period of time, just step up to the 5 ah or (if more power is needed) the 6ah XR packs. It all comes down to your use case. Sure a 9ah Flexvolt pack is awesome, but lugging around that weight can get old (especially as WE get old) - and is just overkill for a lot of use cases on smaller tools. I knocked off one star as the value proposition against the regular 2 ah cells isn't as compelling as I would like (it would be a lot moreso if Dewalt had made these at least 2ah), but it is what it is. Still, I would probably buy them again over the regular 2ah at their current price point. I'm still trying to find the sweet spot Dewalt battery mix, but right now I feel like it is these 1.7ah powerstacks, the 5 ah XR (great balance of power and runtime), 6AH XR (notably more power than the 5ah packs and runtime seems more than just the 20% difference in AH - they are notable heavier though), and maybe the 9ah flexvolts if you have have flexvolt tools. ... show more

  • I'm amazed
I did not expect much from this tiny batteries and ther are not cheap either but well let me tell ya this little things are worth it, very light lond lasting, will definitely be buying more. Also i have noticed a difference on my impact drills they fell alot stronger.

  • Amazing
I had no idea that these little batteries are so powerful! I compared the performance of my "sawzall" with a newish 3ah battery vs the 1.7ah powerstack sawing 2" to 8" very dry avocado logs. I was amazed. The powerstack roughly doubled the performance! This is just a subjective account I know, but the difference is HUGE. Anyone who tries one of these new batteries is never going back. Thank you Dewalt! I have not tried the new 5ah powerstack, but I am tempted as it must be a monster in a small package. ... show more

  • DONT BUY THESE !!!
If you use your tools for work and thinking these will last your wrong! They look nice and are compact but don’t keep a charge. 1 of them in the pack flat out didn’t work. Wouldn’t charge. The other one lasted 2 months. Yes I’m charging them in a standard dewalt charger. Pretty disappointing for the cost ... show more
