  • Impressive sound in a smaller package
After buying the bigger Phantom in February of 2020, I was intrigued and excited to see what the smaller version could do. Upsides: The sound- for less than half the price of the Phantom, the sound is about 90% of it's larger sibling. I think it actually has a better bang for the buck. Unless you're trying to fill an empty blimp hanger for a rave, the smaller unit does very well in filling most non-airship dimensioned spaces. A second one, paired in stereo, would be certainly amazing and absolutely mind melting. Downsides: Bluetooth connection was a bit difficult early on but has improved a great deal over the last few weeks. The app is certainly gotten better and like to think that improved the BT link, The only other thing that is odd is random "wake up/pair" sound in the middle of the night- not loud enough to disturb my sleep but a gentle request: push play. Overall, I really have enjoyed this smaller sibling to the Phantom and would certainly recommend it to others. ... show more

  • This Phantom delivers very Real sound!
What an impressive speaker! It does everything very well. TV Room main speaker, bluetooth music repeater, stand alone internet music reproducer. We used it extensively and for long hours during the holidays festivities. No one could believe the incredible full range sound heard throughout the house came from this small unassuming device. Most people including my wife first assume it is jus another decoration piece from my world wide travels. No distortion even at highest output levels. Best money spent on audio/video in years. ... show more

  • No no no just no, how so wrong
Yes, it's beautiful. Yes it's a great talking point. Yes it has bass for days, but that's the only thing it has! Don't fool yourself thinking it's incredible just because you know how much you paid for it. Take the price out of your mind, if you have it, play a bass- normal song. Don't look for those heavy bass car songs like a teenager. Play an actual song, music, close your eyes and look for bass, you will find it... Look for high's, and then for mids... You won't find those. At least not a $1k worth. Extremely muddy sound, like it was playing from a barrel. Bass is soooo good that I always have the need to just jump to EQ and "fix" the lack of higher tones. But there is no EQ. I don't think it would help either, this device just has no speakers for that purpose. Bass: like it's a $500-600 speaker Mid's and high's: like it's a $80 speaker. Actually on very very low volume even amazon dot sounds better. Devilat has power and bass and that's it. This doesn't worth $1150. It doesn't worth $500. It doesn't worth $1 actually, I rather it not exist then be this good and this bad, what I am trying to say- its incomplete. My advice if you are debating to buy or not: Buy and return (I returned it) ... show more

  • More of a luxury item than an audiophile speaker
This thing is overpriced. At $600, it would be reasonable. The sound is just Ok. It’s better than an Apple HomePod but falls way short of the KEF LSX which is just $100 more. I think it would be a cool speaker to have for house parties but that’s about it. It looks nice, moves with the bass and gets loud. I see this more as a luxury item than an audiophile product. You are paying extra for the style and marketing. ... show more

  • Mind-blowing sound quality but horrible connectivity, software and lack of basic features.
Review update: After three months of using the speakers, one of the drivers started making rattling sound. It sounds like voice coil is busted. I am currently trying to exchange it but Devialet customer support is being difficult about the exchange. They claim they dont exchange speakers purchased through Amazon although their website states "warranty is available regardless of the sales channel" I've been wanting to buy these for years since I first heard Phantom Reactors at my friends. When I finally bought them I was not disappointed with the sound quality which is amazing. However, getting a stereo pair to work reliably is difficult and overall experience with the software and connectivity is poor. Some of the main problems: 1) buttons on the top are pretty much invisible so it's impossible to use them in dark. It is easy to press them by accident if you are moving the speaker and if you touch certain buttons the sound will stop until you turn them off and on. Buttons should have better design with tactile and visual affordance. 2) Stereo pair sync is flaky. My speakers are 4 meters apart with nothing between them and with WiFi router very close. Occasionally the sound on the slave speaker will break up regardless of sync mode. Perhaps Ethernet cable sync works better. 3) Although the speaker has Bluetooth connectivity and can work with Bluetooth only, it is impossible to set it up completely without WiFi and internet connection. 4) Airplay connectivity sometimes doesn't work and there is no support for casting from Android device (Chromecast) 5) Bluetooth connection cannot be established if another device has automatically connected. You have to disconnect all your other devices before you can connect with another one. 6) There is no equalizer or stereo balance control. I would expect those features from a product like this. ... show more
