  • They work for what I wanted them to do.
Color: Blue
I used these while mowing five times prior to over seeding this fall. I am really impressed with the amount of germination I am seeing after using these shoes. I don’t have the room to store a big aerator so these have proved to be a good alternative. The only drawback is I have had to glue the Velcro back onto one of the straps twice. Not sure how many seasons I will get out of these but they are cheap enough to replace every few years. ... show more

  • Got through my dry and hard clay soil, gets through much easier after a light rain
Color: Blue
Was using it break up my hard and dry clay lawns that I haven't watered for quite some time in a dry and hot part of California. I have been preparing to hit them with a cover crop to break the clay soil and these helped quite a bit. I bent the front spikes by misusing them and kicking / stomping bigger chunks of clay, but that's on me, imo. I wear a very wide size 11.5-12 in men's shoes and while the width does not pose a problem, the length could be a touch longer. But I also see how that would be bad for people with smaller feet as you wouldn't want these extending beyond the toe. They're sturdy enough that my 260lb self could walk on concrete walkways between areas of the lawn with these on and not worry about it. ... show more

  • Shoe size and plenty of rain prior.
Color: Black
While my shoe size is 12, I got these to work strapping the back velcro loop across the front with the other loop and cinching very hard along with the front. I had over three inches of rain a week prior and two inches the day before using these, very important. I took what seemed like a thousand foot steps over two hours aerating a fifth of an acre - half dense zoysia grass prepping for a fall annual rye grass and the other half prepping for perennial rye grass after issues with soil compaction weeds and thatch build up that thwarted zoysia dominance. These shoes worked like a champ, especially considering if I had my dad's old aerator and a hitch on my lawn mower that I could do it, I was done before that would have started - and zero carbon foot print except for the banana and coffee I had that morning. Of note, you need to walk like Frankenstein, or like you have heavy boots of lead (credit to Ozzy Osbourne), in spiking the soil up and down while you walk, and don't go on slopes unless you have a fence to hold on to. BTW, weed be gone is an excellent weed control product for established zoysia lawns. I needed to use a metal rake aggressively on a horizontal motion to de-thatch old grass clippings and dead weeds prior to using this product and then I am going to seed the thinned areas where the weeds were. ... show more

  • I thought this was ridiculous, but it works
Color: Blue
My lawn had a lot of dead patches that needed reseeding. I knew I had to do something when I tried to follow the instructions on the grass seed bag: rake the area, turning up the soil. My rake bounced off the hardpan that was the largest dead area. Only two years ago this was sod! After soaking the area with my hose I tried again. Then I grabbed a shovel and started trying to dig. The first 2mm of soil was damp, and underneath was dusty bone dry hard-packed earth. At that point I realized I needed aeration. But I wasn't about to buy an aerator or rent one from HD for $80 just for 40 square feet of dead lawn (the lawn is about 800 sq feet, so it's not all dead). I picked these up because why not? It looked pretty dumb, but it was worth a try. At the worst I'd get some exercise stomping on my lawn then return it. I fired up the sprinklers, then went and stomped on the lawn. It didn't look like it did much, and I resorted to hopping across the dead areas with both feet. My wife has a video of that somewhere. The holes didn't seem big enough to actually do anything. But after hopping around I fired up the sprinklers again. The next day I did some more hopping. With that round I noticed that the ground was definitely softer, even under the dead areas; even those seemingly tiny holes seemed to do something. When the sprinklers ran previously I could see pooling and it running off of those dead areas. Now it didn't seem as bad. I hopped for another round, and the spikes went into the ground much more easily. And the rake actually worked somewhat (it actually penetrated the dirt). I wasn't able to churn up the soil with the rake yet, but now there was hope. After a few more days of this I'll rake and reseed the area with TurfBuilder and see what happens. So for these, they work. I have them strapped onto a pair of old hiking shoes. You should probably use stiff soled shoes, because it takes a bit of force to get these into hard packed soil. Overall I'd buy these again. It's a great addition to your never-ending collection of backyard tools. ... show more

  • Fun Productive Exercise
Color: Black
The spikes are fun to stomp around the yard in and give you a decent workout. I really love how they give you a knife to clean the spikes, make sure you carry it with you. This TX clay dirt sticks pretty good to the spikes and sometimes would bring up large portions of earth with each step.

  • Worked great
Color: Colorful
I was skeptical of whether these would work but they were cheap and rainbow so I gave it a try. I strapped them onto my hiking books (size 8 womens) and mowed the lawn while wearing them, and got a good aeration of my lawn while also mowing it. They worked great. I just had to scrape off the leaves that got impaled on the spikes after I was done but that took like 5 minutes. ... show more

  • SIZE MATTERS
Color: Black
SIZE MATTERS. I wear a size 10 mens and the aerator shoes were just a too short. Not exactly as efficient as the right size would have worked. BUT what can you do? Return the purchase and wait for a replacement, order another size, or those these and make another order. Oh well! BUYERS MAKE SURE YOU ORDER AND GET THE RIGHT SIZE. ... show more

  • Stability
Color: Blue
Worked great but despite tight straps, my feet slid on a significant hill. Otherwise no complaints
