  • NO BLUETOOTH!
It works. Was sent a replacement battery within 30 days of purchase. Very slow on start up. Otherwise I use it all the time and works great. I didn't realize it has NO BLUETOOTH. Figured this out too late. Sucks for watching movies for this reason. Can only watch with earbud jack.

  • This isn't about the product, but about the Amazon partner who sold me the computer Discount PC.
As a business owner, it pains me to write this negative review about Discount PC. Nevertheless, I find their business practices, in particular as it applies to me, “off-the-mark,” and unreasonable. Allow me to explain: On July 8th 2020 I decided to purchase a laptop computer for my girlfriend Jeanne, who at the time was living in Miami Beach, Florida. I was, and still am, living in Scottsdale, Arizona. Jeanne was just diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease and she was struggling on her iPad to fill out disability paperwork. I thought perhaps a PC might make her plight a little easier. Because of our distant proximities I decided to send her one using Amazon. Since I thought I had heard of Discount PC -- one of Amazon’s many business partners via marketplace.amazon.com – I picked out a refurbished Dell Latitude E6420 from them – it featured I5 up to 3.2 GHz processor, 128SSD – 8 GB RAM – DVD –Wifi – Windows 10 Professional 64-bit, laptop and sent it to her via Amazon Prime. Jeanne, of course, thanked me and said it did help her, and I assumed all was good. A couple of weeks ago, I opened her PC to write a letter and I was surprised to discover the PC was shutting down every 30 minutes. I opened her “Power Options” under control settings and adjusted the options to never turn off except when I shut the power button off. However, it kept happening. She then admitted to me this was happening from the beginning and she didn’t want to say anything to me; she apparently didn't want to hurt my feelings. I called my IT team and they remoted into me and they couldn’t see anything that would make the computer shut down every 30 minutes. Realizing I was way past my warranty, I paid for another IT company to review the situation. They asked me if I happened to have a copy of Windows 10 and I said I did. The IT tech asked me to put it into the DVD player and I did. I noticed that nothing happened. I went looking for my DVD icon under explorer and tried starting it from there – to no avail. I then tried a couple more DVDs and CDs and still nothing was happening. The IT person on the phone suggested that I call Microsoft and see if they could ascertain what was going on. I called Microsoft and spoke with tech support. The only thing this engineer added was make sure that the DVD player was linked to the computer’s BIOS. At this point, I decided to call for Dell Service Support. The first thing I learned from them was that at the bottom of each Dell laptop there is supposed to be a Service Tag. Mine didn’t come with one. Eventually, I was able to find the serial number and from that they were able to proceed. The man on the phone was telling me to check that my drivers were up to date. As far as I could see they were. He then wanted me to check to see that the Windows 10 drivers were up to date. He told me to go to Dells website; he took me to “Drivers and Downloads.” I entered the service tag number (which I now had) and it took me to the drivers for a Latitude E6420. It asked me to enter the operating system and ‘lo and behold’ there was no option for Windows 10 Pro operating system. The Dell engineer on the phone said “Walla. That’s why your DVD player isn’t operating. Your computer wasn’t designed for Windows 10.” I asked if that could be why the computer keeps shutting down? He said “could be.” My next step was to call Discount PC and to see if there was something they could do about this problem. I first spoke with a wonderful customer service rep by the name of Christina McKinley. She couldn’t have been more accommodating and empathetic. I explained, normally I would say this problem is on me, because I am way past my service warranty. However, even though I am past my warranty, I don’t like the fact that what I bought from Discount PC was a Laptop that came with a DVD player that was never designed to work. Besides the DVD player, the laptop keeps shutting down every 30 minutes and subsequently I discovered the Wifi keeps shutting off temporarily every hour or so. I believe the router is fine because my iPhone and iPad are not losing their Wifi signals. Christina told me that she would put me in touch with Kevin Divis, Discount PC’s Client Support Manager, and she was sure that he would work out something accommodating for me and Jeanne. Unfortunately, that statement couldn’t have been further from the truth. He first tried to tell me that the Dell engineer wasn’t correct. He said there is nothing he could do since we were past our warranty time. I mentioned that I of course get that. However, why did I buy something never designed to work. According to experts it wouldn’t have worked on day one and it doesn’t work now. Why did I spend my money on something that was destined to never work? At this point, he said I can RMA you and get it working but you’ll have to pay the return shipping. I said that might be okay, but I’d still like to speak with your manager and let him know about what happened. He said I’ll talk to the CEO and see if he wants to do anything above and beyond what I am offering. I’m sure he’ll call you back personally. I said that would be great. Below was Kevin’s next response: “Mark, I wanted to follow up with you after our conversation. We have an option available to you. Our option for you would be that you pay the return shipping to us. We would then charge you a $49.00 diagnostic fee plus the cost to repair this item. After we diagnose and repair our company would then pay the return shipping. Please let us know how you would like to proceed.” Anyway, I can take the hit financially – and, I would understand, if this was coming from a start-up company working out of a garage somewhere. But, this is a partner of Amazon. If this product was designed to function and I missed some operating flaws I should have seen prior to the warranty running out (DVD not working, WIFI not functioning correctly, automatic shut downs) I would have no complaints. But I resent purchasing a product that was designed to fail from the start and the company refuses to take any ownership of that fact. Word to the wise, think twice before purchasing anything from Discount PC. Their business practices and ethics should be scrutinized prior to your buying decision. Best, Mark ... show more

  • Great refurb for the price but expect some slight blemishes
I wish I could give 4 and half stars. The screen had a small inch size gash, but with a dark wallpaper you barely notice it at all, other than that it's perfect. I just needed a basic computer for my son whos taking off to college. For the price this is a really nice laptop and surprisingly the windows 10 setup didn't come with a bunch of dell bloatware. Very nice, extremely fast shipping as well. 👍 ... show more

  • Wish I'd bought larger screen
A main attraction of this refurbished laptop is the connection options (to connect/display photos on my TV), but I wish the screen were larger (for personal convenience); also, the keyboard is undersize, so I have typo errors. Good laptop for the money, but I prefer to work offline, and Windows 10 is definitely not a favorite! Anyway, I will make do with my choice. If I had it to do over, I would stay with a larger screen unit and would seek something other than Windows 10. ... show more

  • Amazing value for the money spent
It's not perfect, but for the price I am beyond delighted with this laptop. I needed it to use as a controller for a computer-driven milling machine that I built (CNC router) so I wanted one that with a reasonable CPU (I didn't have any special GPU requirements for my application) and got one that also has a solid state drive for around ~$250! On top of that it has a webcam and an optical drive that I didn't even realize would be there until the laptop arrived. So, in short, I'm amazed to get so much laptop for so VERY little. Downsides: 1) the screen is not super bright, even at its highest setting, but that's not a deal-breaker. 2) I've noticed flickering with the HDMI output when I've hooked this up to our projector. This might be due to the cables I'm using or it might be internal to the laptop. Not sure. ... show more

  • More Pleased Than I Thought I would be
It's less than a year, and the crappy battery won't hold a charge.... -----Edit above So, refurbished laptop... I'm insanely in love with this. My dinosaur (a 2005 Vaio) finally crashed, and I needed one quickly. 1) I had NO clue how insanely slow my old laptop was.. 2) This is my first solid state drive, I only have 8 gigs of RAM, yet this has to be ten times faster than my dinosaur I just mentioned. SSD drives, I'm told can be 'iffy' they may last 10 years, or 1 (they do go out more so than disk harddrives. ) not worried, most of my work stays in the cloud anyhow. If there is a scratch, or a ding, I cannot find it, and I've studied it from top to bottom.screen is perfect, the battery lasts long time unless I'm using memory intensive programs. CON: I know I read it the description, but must have glossed over it, no CD/DVD drive, but USB 3 and portables are around 25 dollars. I have a few things only I disk, so this will be uber helpful when I can afford it. So, it isn't 'really' a 'con' I'm happy in every respect. And I know that Amazon stands behind their refurbished produces. ... show more

  • 10 year old computer
Our computer was starting to be rather slow, so I was looking for a new one. I saw an ad for a refurbished Dell laptop, Windows 10 pro, DVD drive etc. I thought it sounded good, so I ordered one. It arrived when it was supposed to and I opened it up and plugged it in. It went downhill from there. It immediately said I needed to download McAfee to get rid of viruses n the computer. I realise it is refurbished, but it should not have viruses when I opened it up. I can't do anything with out this message popping up all the time, you cannot get rid of it. I want a refund and I will return this thing. ... show more
