Straight out of the box this gem made ice within a half hour. It’s great that you can change the size of the cubes. It’s relatively quiet except when ice falls, naturally you’ll hear that. It makes enough ice to keep up with a family of four, even in the summer. There is an “eye” that stops it from dispensing more ice if there is a build up of ice. The ice build up is towards the back and consequently doesn’t move ice forward, thus the red light comes on and production stops. While I understand this feature, it’s a pain. I will have to check the ice repeatedly during the day and free the cubes by leveling them. The machine will not make any ice if the ice bucket is crooked as it blocks the eye. So if you’re not careful you won’t have ice when you want it. All in all, it’s a great little machine other than the annoyances I’ve mentioned. Freed up a lot of freezer space which I needed. I seriously searched through dozens of the most reasonably priced ice makers and the thousands of reviews that came with them. After this crazy deep dive into the world of ice makers I realized that all of them were pretty much the exact same with the same positives and negatives in the reviews so I decided to narrow my search I would be picky about color. I've always loved red in the kitchen (both my tea kettle & mini fridge are red) so I landed on this Deco Gear. I normally don't like purchasing something with a low amount of reviews but I took a gamble and I'm glad I did! This ice maker is perfect for my needs and if I have a friend over it can easily supply us with ice for both our drinks without running out. Now for a party yes you would definitely need to run it the night before and bag the ice as while it does make ice fairly quickly its not enough to keep up with a party. The ice size choices are good and the ice tastes crisp and amazing with no weird plastic-y taste (note: I always use filtered water from my Brita pitcher). I know the instructions say unplug when not in use but I leave mine plugged in when I turn it off at night and when I went on my last work trip I accidentally forgot to unplug it and everything was working just fine when I got home a week later.. but it is plugged into a surge protected outlet. If not using every day I would suggest simply wiping it out with a dry cloth after draining the water. I do this before I leave for my work trips and there is never mold growth or a moldy smell when I get back! I personally do not think that this ice maker is noisy. I'd say it's even quieter than most in-fridge ice makers. The only time its "loud" is when the ice falls off the freezing rods (I find the little plop plop plop sound to be cute in a weird way) and then when the scoop dumps the ice into the bin but unless the bin is completely empty, again, its really not loud... and I live in a studio apartment so I'm never that far away from the ice maker. It doesn't impede on watching tv or listening to my records and while I usually turn it off before bed I've totally left it on many nights and it's never woken me up! I also find the ice holds fairly well inside the machine bin. I turn it on when I wake up in the morning and the ice is melted but there's still roughly half a basket full. I appreciate that this recycles the melted water as well!! ... show more

I got this machine for my 13 year old for Christmas. We don’t have an ice maker and she loves to make iced coffee! I am SUPER impressed with this thing. I love the stainless steel look, the handle , and also the little plastic scoop it comes with for the ice. It’s also pretty quick on making ice! Few things to note : The ice needs to be put in the freezer soon after it’s made. It’s not designed to keep the ice cold in there , it will start to melt . The bag they give for storing ice is very thin and ours got a hole after a few uses. Plan to buy a better bag or container to store ice! Other than those 2 things, we love this . Overall I like the ice maker. It produces wonderful, crunchy bullet ice that comes in two sizes. However, there is a major flaw... The small cubes fall through the storage basket. Even the large cubes fall through until the machine is running long enough to create thicker pieces. I can fix the problem by cutting a piece of wire mesh to fit the bottom of the basket, but it's annoying. All the manufacturers had to do was use a basket that had smaller slots. I used bottled drinking water, and the ice was clear and tasty. I love to crunch ice, and this is perfect. Overall, I'd recommend the ice maker. It's cute, easy to use, and makes perfect bullet ice. ... show more
