It is very reliable! And ice is readily available very quickly. What my wife and I have been doing is putting away the ice that are made in ziplock bags and storing them away in the freezer for later uses. Most of all, it saves me trips to the store or having to refill ice cube trays not to mention the amount of time I saved just waiting for ice to be made.     • Started Making Loud Grinding Noises
This was a great icemaker for a few months. I bought it back in May & it worked fine. The ice gets a bit melted over time before you scoop it, but I expected that. What I didn't expect was to be sitting in my living room & suddenly hearing a loud grinding noise in my kitchen. I went in there & it was my icemaker. It had plenty of water & wasn't hot. It's still making ice, but it's disturbing because I'm not exactly sure what is happening. That concern is enough to drop a star, maybe more. Love the small size cubes, fairly quiet but for cubes dropping, speed is amazing in making cubes; love the machine! Cubes drop & get in the way of making more cubes- have to keep an eye on ice basket is the only fault I can find- makes plenty with one tank of water. Did I say I love this machine? Hated filling ice cube trays all the time & spilling water- great for one person- but can make as much as I want & put in the freezer in refrigerator. Shuts off automatically when cubes get in the way or runs out of water - keeps cubes frozen until done making. Would not buy any other machine! ... show more

I seriously searched through dozens of the most reasonably priced ice makers and the thousands of reviews that came with them. After this crazy deep dive into the world of ice makers I realized that all of them were pretty much the exact same with the same positives and negatives in the reviews so I decided to narrow my search I would be picky about color. I've always loved red in the kitchen (both my tea kettle & mini fridge are red) so I landed on this Deco Gear. I normally don't like purchasing something with a low amount of reviews but I took a gamble and I'm glad I did! This ice maker is perfect for my needs and if I have a friend over it can easily supply us with ice for both our drinks without running out. Now for a party yes you would definitely need to run it the night before and bag the ice as while it does make ice fairly quickly its not enough to keep up with a party. The ice size choices are good and the ice tastes crisp and amazing with no weird plastic-y taste (note: I always use filtered water from my Brita pitcher). I know the instructions say unplug when not in use but I leave mine plugged in when I turn it off at night and when I went on my last work trip I accidentally forgot to unplug it and everything was working just fine when I got home a week later.. but it is plugged into a surge protected outlet. If not using every day I would suggest simply wiping it out with a dry cloth after draining the water. I do this before I leave for my work trips and there is never mold growth or a moldy smell when I get back! I personally do not think that this ice maker is noisy. I'd say it's even quieter than most in-fridge ice makers. The only time its "loud" is when the ice falls off the freezing rods (I find the little plop plop plop sound to be cute in a weird way) and then when the scoop dumps the ice into the bin but unless the bin is completely empty, again, its really not loud... and I live in a studio apartment so I'm never that far away from the ice maker. It doesn't impede on watching tv or listening to my records and while I usually turn it off before bed I've totally left it on many nights and it's never woken me up! I also find the ice holds fairly well inside the machine bin. I turn it on when I wake up in the morning and the ice is melted but there's still roughly half a basket full. I appreciate that this recycles the melted water as well!! ... show more

I received my ice maker. It was teal instead of the stainless steel I ordered but I kept it instead of messing with a return. Also it appeared that it may have been used before becsuse of a few light scuffs on the exterior.On the 4th day of operation it stopped working and the power light was flashing. I ran thru the trouble shooting tips in the booklet. It did not help. Then i called amazon service and they ran me thru tests. She then connected me to the manufacturer support. I told her what the machine was doing and she immediately said "that is a factory defect. You need to return it thru Amazon." This has obviously happened before. The quality of the shell exterior is very cheap/flimsy. I'm vert disappointed with this product overall. ... show more
