Description

Everyone loves the elegance of well-maintained hardwood deck. When homeowners want their hardwoods to have a luxurious natural wood color, they use Ipe Oil Hardwood Deck Finish for a deep natural wood finish. Ipe Oil Deck Finish features a specific formula for hardwood decks, hardwood siding, patios and outdoor hardwood furniture. It will provide superb protection with minimal raising of the grain and nourishes wood from within. Our specific formula offers advanced level precautions from the damaging effects of intense temperatures, moisture and the sun's UV rays. Ipe Oil wood stain has a distinct blend of linseed oil for maximum wood grain penetration; translucent iron oxide pigments for UV protection; and natural oils for moisture repelling. Ipe Oil enables hardwoods to breathe, which is essential when finishing hardwoods such as Ipe, Teak, Tigerwood, Brazilian Redwood and other exotic species such as Mahogany and Cumaru. Many typical surface film finishes can crack, peel or bubble. Many wood oil brands include a lacquer, which dries as a surface coating. During re-oiling, these types of lacquer finishes produce an opaque milky surface. Their finish does not penetrate down through the previous layer of lacquer. Ipe Oil does not contain lacquer. 1 gal. protects approximately 250 sq. ft. and has been formulated as an oil-based natural hardwood finish utilizing a low 250 VOC. Soak times will vary depending on direct sun and temp. Thoroughly wipe off all excess oil from wood. Not available for sale in California SCAQMD Jurisdiction, LA-Eastern, LA-Western, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties.

  • What a finish!
Item Package Quantity: 1
My IPE deck looks brand new. The prep work was the hardest part - the stain goes on quick and easy and wipes right up. Dries well. And now the parts of the deck that are exposed to the harshest sun look as good as the parts near the house that are under cover. They say you don't have to maintain IPE wood and maybe that is true structurally but this made a huge difference in appearance and I'm glad I took the effort. ... show more

  • Slicker than Oil
Item Package Quantity: 2
Love this IPE oil! Excellent quality and easy application! This is my second time to buy it! It’s preserving our IPE and making it super rich in color.

  • Pricey good stuff
Item Package Quantity: 1
Well, there's nothing like a can of this stuff to freshen up your hardwood deck each year. Lends a serious glow and a nice tint of color - looks like new. It's pricey as heck but I get 2 cans every year anyway. I spent a lot of cash building my new deck and I'm not about to let my glam cumaru and garapa fade to gray. I'm not trying to make my deck look like it's been battered by the coast of Nantucket, I want glistening golden brown. Protips: make sure it has not rained for at least 2 days before you start, preferably two hotter days so your wood is quite dry. You're gonna want to make sure rain isn't forecast for another 2 days afterward too, to allow the product to cure. The easiest way to apply is with a roller brush. Stuff is nothing like paint, so don't freak out. Slather the whole surface until it can't absorb more. Then you find a towel you don't like and massage the oil into the beams. You want no glistening little pools - should be DRY. Kinda like the layer of oil you'd leave on your cast iron skillet before sticking it in the oven to season. ... show more

  • The best product for finishing any deck.
Item Package Quantity: 1
I've used many products for finishing decks over the years. This is all I use now, even for cedar decks. It is a superior product that is applies really easy and has a beautiful finish that really soaks into the wood. As with any oil stains, the user must be extremely careful with the used stain rags. My deck almost went up in flames when the heaped up, used stain rags were not properly cared for on a 95 degree day. I strongly suggest laying out the used rags, no more than 1 layer thick, far far away from anything combustible until they are completely dry. Again, this applies to any oil stain, not just with this one. ... show more

  • Think stain, not oil
Item Package Quantity: 1
(Photo shows before and after staining a new dock built about 4 months earlier.) I’m giving “Ipe Oil” 4 stars because while I’m generally satisfied (only two days after application) I was surprised to find this to be a fairly heavy stain. I was expecting a mostly clear oil from the name and description. But when you open the can you find a brown stain as dark as the brown deck on the label. Though I’m not unhappy with the color, I wouldn’t have bought a stain this dark if I had realized it. Apart from the color, application was easy. The hardest part was waiting for good weather. But then I sanded all surfaces with a ROS and 80 grit. Then applied the stain with a staining pad/sponge a small section at a time. Dipping only a small part of the sponge at a time made for a fairly mess-free process. I didn’t find an issue with overlapping unevenness of color this way, even with overlapping. Being careful about an even coating, I also didn’t need to wipe up excess. The whole thing, with sanding and railings, took a day rather than the half day I had expected, but the result is nice looking— again despite the surprise of how deep bodied the stain actually is. ... show more

  • Works beautifully
Item Package Quantity: 1
Pictures show after cleaning/brightening and then after finishing with DeckWise Ipe Oil. I've tried a different product meant for hardwoods as well but DeckWise Ipe Oil retains the deck beauty as it was meant to be. The other product had a more amber tint, likely for additional protection but I didn't experience any extra durability/longevity in it. I'm sticking with Ipe Oil from now on. I simply applied this with an old t-shirt. Generously apply to the decking a few boards at a time, hit the gaps, then lightly rewipe the area with the same rag, move on to the next section. Easy to apply. I probably applied it a little thinner than recommended since I didn't use quite 1/2 gallon over 200 sq/ft plus railing. ... show more

  • After trying many products, this is the best for our ipe decking. Looks great for 12 months, and then good for another 12 months
Item Package Quantity: 1
We have several decks made of Ipe, as well as hand railings. We have experimented with a variety of products, and have found that this is the best stain. For the hand rails, we use Sikkens Marine Varnish, which seems to be the only thing that holds up 2-3 years, but that's too slick to use on decks and we have resigned ourselves to pressure washing and reapplying this product to the decks once a year. At the end of 12 months, the deck still looks decent, just faded.. a quick power wash and another application of this product, applied with a stain sponge, works great and makes them look great for another year. Highly recommended. Hope this helps. ... show more

  • I do it every year
Item Package Quantity: 1
My deck is 10 year old Ipe. Definitely greying, with splotches of the natural brown. I first powerwash with 3000 PSI pressure washer, 4 inches away, and 15 degree spray tip. The Ipe is so hard, it handles this abuse well. I have done it every year without damage. I did the DeckWize A and B treatments. Because it was cool and cloudy, I mixed twice as strong, and allowed twice the recommended time. I do not think it did much, only turning the brown splotches grey. Then, I followed several days later with DeckWize Ipe Oil. I use 3/4 gallon for 400 square feet, using 9 inch lambswool pad. Using a paint roller leaves too much product on. Both pictures are after the DeckWize cleaner and brightener (A and B). Before and after the Ipe Oil applied. Now I am happy. Beautiful. Ipe is so hard, I do not think this oil penetrates much, if any. Still looks good for a year anyway. Next year, I will not go through the work of the A and B Wood Cleaner and Brightener again. Just powerwash and oil. Caution! Very vulnerable to spontaneous combustion. Dispose of you rags proper. I threw my oily rags off the deck, landing on my composite kayak overnight. Smoldered through it, and I could never get grass to grow there again. ... show more
