  • Martin DVD a Golden piece of Nostalga!
If you loved Dean Martin's 60s TV series, "That's Amoré" will bring back many fond memories! Culled from musical numbers performed each week (with a few vintage B&W numbers from earlier TV appearances added to the mix), Dino shows the easy grace, unique phrasing, and good-natured humor that made his vocals so special. The songs are a mix of his personal hits and old standards, which fit his effortless style perfectly. Many are 'opening' numbers from the show, with Dino jogging down a flight of steps, then laughingly punctuating the music by bouncing along with the rhythm. In contrast are his 'featured' songs from the show, which he performs leaning against Ken Lane's piano, or from a couch in his 'music room', often with a cigarette in hand. These achieve an intimacy rarely equalled, even today. While the bulk of selections are solos, the DVD does feature duets with Petula Clark and Peggy Lee, two of his favorite guests. The chemistry during these tunes is palpable, even if Dino relies heavily on cue cards for the lyrics, and it's easy to see why so many women found him irresistable! My only quibble, and it is a minor one, is producer Greg Garrison, frequently appearing to 'introduce' numbers, and reminisce. The songs certainly need no introductions...but Garrison's devotion to his star is so sweet and sincere that you can't really complain, much... All in all, "That's Amoré" is a treat, and will have you itching to see a collection of the ENTIRE programs the songs were 'lifted' from! Dino would have loved it! ... show more

  • Absolutely Essential - for Dino's Fans and Others Too!!
This first class, impeccably produced collection of some of Dean Martin's vocal performances from his early years on "The Dean Martin Show," is ESSENTIAL viewing/listening for his devoted fans (me among them). What's remarkable here, beyond the warm and intelligent commentary by his friend and producer, Greg Garrison, are the quality of the performances - ranging from the comic (singing his country hit, "Houston," and pretending to play the harmonica) to the sublime (an absolutely beautiful rendition of "You Made Me Love You"). There are also a couple of numbers from the "old Dean," from the Martin and Lewis days, when he was more the straight man, heroic, dashing figure, than the more comedic Dino that emerged after his split from Jerry Lewis. His duets here with Petula Clark and Peggy Lee are standouts - not only beautifully sung, but warm and funny, and improvisational. Dean's gift was that he sang so well, but look so relaxed, seemed so happy and comfortable, and had great rapport with his audience and guests. He was the genuine article - and really missed. Check out some wonderful performances - and let's get going on the NEXT edition. This terrific DVD only leaves you wanting more! You were the best, Dino!! ... show more

  • ATTABOY, DINO!!
Dean Martin was without a doubt one of the greatest entertainers who ever lived and it's great to see him back in action in this DVD. It's a pity there's no performer around today worthy of even shining his shoes. The video quality for the most part is quite good and the audio is fair, but much better if played thru a home theater system. I would have given this set five stars, if not for two drawbacks. At 64 minutes and 46 seconds, it's much too short. Also, the menu is flawed. I only hope that Greg Garrison or whomever is in charge of Dean's legacy, will release more sets of this type. Dino Crocetti, you are sadly missed!! ... show more

  • Try Not To Smile While You're Watching This DVD
This DVD is pure gold. A must for any Dean fan. You will be smiling from ear to ear. Not only does this bring back fond memories of his celebrated TV show, but it also provides music that is not available anywhere on CD. The medley with Peggy Lee is priceless and worth the price of admission alone. The duet with Petula Clark is also thoroughly enjoyable. Aside from the great music on this DVD, Dean's charm and personality abound. From his ability to not take himself seriously to his ability to sing a ballad effortlessly, makes you see what a talent Dean really was. I only wish there was more Dino reissues available on CD. The picking is slim so get what you can. Especially when the these songs are gems that are for the most part unavailable elsewhere. So go out and get this video because it will put a smile on your face. And when you're smiling the whole world smiles at you. ... show more

  • A must have DVD
This DVD brings back fond memories of Dean with some of his best show clips. He was a great entertainer and we all miss him terribly (along with Frank, too, of course). Greg Garrison's comments are poignant. I still remember Dean's TV show when he was at Garrison's ranch near Thousand Oaks and riding Greg's horses (Andalusians, I believe)...that was a great show, he was a good horseman to boot. ... show more
