  • Good Quality Starter with One Minor Issue
The starter was virtually identical to the OEM Denso unit on a 2002 Dodge Van 3500 with a 5.9. Install was very easy except for one issue. The barrel on the plug for the ignition wires was slightly longer than the original. It plugged in just fine but the clip that holds it on could not quite reach. This may or may not be a issue unique to this model year and engine. Regardless, you have two options. Shave a a bit off the end of the barrel (with a dremel would only take a minute, were talking a 1/16 inch or less) or what I did and just silicone it on. The plug fits pretty tight so the clip is probably not all that important but you don't want it coming off either. The starter fit perfectly in all other regards, no shimming necessary, bolted right up. It turns the engine with lots of power and seems like a quality unit. The original Denso made it 150k, time will tell if it can match that, but it sure is nice to have a good starter again. ... show more

  • So far so good after 3 months
Bought this to replace the original starter on my 2003 Dodge Dakota 3.9. After 3 months it has worked without issue. Easy to install and a good value as of now.

  • 2000 Dakota 4x4 4.7L, made it work!
I will have to post pictures later. But as mentioned in other reviews, will not fit a 2000 Dakota out of the box. Starter and solenoid are exactly the same, but the bracket used to mount to the truck is not. Gutted both starters and put all the new parts into my old starter housing...worked perfectly. Only took about 7 minutes to transfer everything over to the old housing. It's been installed for 3 days so I can't comment on durability just yet. Hopefully this review will help others out. 4 stars because of the extra work I had to put into this. 👍 ... show more

  • Great Value
My 2002 Dodge Dakota is in perfect mechanical shape, but mechanical problems do happen. My starter had become a hit & miss situation, especially in colder weather. The final straw was when I was about to leave the grocery store and the starter had other plans. So, I had to climb under the truck to tap the starter with a hammer to make it work, which might work once or 2 weeks. So I got tired enough of having to do that and I ordered this starter. I have NO regrets! But I was really surprised to learn the one I was replacing was the Original Factory starter! I couldn't complain because the truck has 320k miles on it! I hadn't realized how it had actually become much slower at starting over time. This starter was a perfect fit and my truck is SO easy to start up now, immediately. It cost less than 1/3 of a remanufactured one at the big parts stores (this one was NEW) and I got free shipping on it. I couldn't be more pleased with this purchase! ... show more

  • Short term, works great! Great value.
I was nervous because it is the low-buck leader for starters for our daughter's 4.7 manual 4X4 Dakota, and it was assembled in China, which can be hit and miss for car parts. However, for the first 10 starts and few dozen miles it works great. Crank is instantaneous and strong with none of the "struggle" sounds most 10+ old starters have, and none of the "after whir" sound as it spins down on some AutoZone starters I've purchased. Just doing the job and doing it very well, and was about the best price, with confirmed fit on a 4X4 4.7 Dakota with a 5 speed manual--wasn't absolutely sure they were interchangeable with all the automatic transmission starters. BTW--easiest to access on the Dakota through the driver-side front wheel well. Get at the two wires from on top through wheel well, and use a wrench with 16mm socket and extension for above bolt, then dangle below and look from below frame through wheel well to do bottom bolt. Put your hand in through from below frame and behind the axle to support the starter and/or start new bolts. Relatively easy that way. Having an air wrench will save you time taking the bolts in/out as well. ... show more

  • This product is stocked in US but mfg in China.
DB claims to specify and inspect (test) for quality. I installed this starter on my 1999 Dakota and seemed to be identical in fit and appearance to the original part. Starting the motor sounded a little different than the old starter. Possibly a little faster revving than the original. I guess that is a good thing. The bottom line is that the starter installed and worked as expected. ... show more
