  • Great transit for fencing (LT6-900 Meridian)
Item Package Quantity: 1
I was a little worried about buying this transit because someone said in a review that there was excessive backlash in the tangent screws, this is not true, there is a spring that keeps pressure on the tangent screw so there is absolutely no backlash. I used the transit to flag for a 1280' long fence with a hill in between. There were 3 survey pins, one at each end and one 400' from one end, The wife and I were able to align from one end to the 400' pin, pivot up the hill about 800' and set a pin at the top, then using a 16' pool vacuum handle set another pin about 75' over the hill. We then moved and reset the transit on the other end survey pin and aligned with the 2 pins we had set, the fence came out perfectly straight. The optics were easily able to focus on a piece of 1/2" conduit painted orange and the pool vacuum handle at 800'. I am very happy with the performance of this transit for the job I was doing and the price was less than a surveyor, but if you need to read precise angles vertically or horizontally you should probably spend more and get a better transit. ... show more

  • versatile low cost survey instrument
Item Package Quantity: 1
This is a not-too-expensive instrument for my Junior Ranger surveying project of my property. The 22X scope works well, although the crosshairs can be difficult to see. I found slightly defocusing the image helped. The vernier on the azimuth theoretically lets you measure to 10' of arc. For my hobby-level work, half a degree is fine. It also does altitude measurements, but no vernier. Not an issue for me because I use a laser level to get elevation differences between survey points. Worst part is in the azimuth readout dial: a). there's no lock, so you have to be careful that when you're reading an angle between two points that you don't bump the dial; b). the axle for the dial is not a snug fit so you can move it slightly laterally (enough to make it off by a degree, or so). Fits a standard surveying tripod screw mount (not a 1/4-20 photographic tripod mount). Amazon has an inexpensive Bosch tripod that works well. ... show more

  • Not on the Fence Anymore
Item Package Quantity: 1
Read all the reviews on this product. Was on the fence about yes or no. Some were talking cheap plastic case, bent adjustment screws, bad packaging Etc... Don’t know why they had these issue, because the case is the same plastic as other use. Came in the case perfectly set in foam, with no bent adjustment screws at all. I work heavy construction, and needed something simple with an affordable price. This was it!!!! Great product so far & I would buy another if I need one. ... show more

  • Not highly accurate or precise, but good value for the money.
Item Package Quantity: 1
This meets my needs for a DIY transit with adjustment in both the vertical and horizontal planes. If I were a professional surveyor, I would spend 10x the money to get a highly accurate and precise transit. Since I'm not, I think the price is very good for this item. I strongly recommend getting a bubble level (such as "High Accuracy 30' /2mm D30mm/1.2" Alloy Metal Shell Bullseye Bubble Level for RV Tripod Ball Head"). I find it much easier to level the transit with a bullseye level rather than the built-in level. Pro: Reasonable build quality. Simple to operate. Con: No stadia lines. Horizontal graduated circle is loose (therefore inaccurate and imprecise). Screw lash on horizontal and vertical tangents more than desirable. ... show more

  • Does what I need it to do but needed some tweaks out the box
Item Package Quantity: 1
I am docking a star because the leveling vial on top came out of level. Easy enough to set it, but I am buying a level and expect it to come level. Other than that, it’s an inexpensive transit/level that had the features I needed for a reasonable price. Side note, the manual says to check your level, use a highly accurate level to set reference points. If I had a highly accurate level already to use, why would I buy this one. Seems like a factory that built these would have the tools to set these levels before they ship them out. ... show more

  • Not worth the cheap price
Item Package Quantity: 1
Low quality scope. No way to lock dial for degrees of angle. I returned it and will end up buying something that isn't irritating to use.

  • Another Bent Adjustment Screw
Item Package Quantity: 1
As others have stated there was a bent vertical tangent screw. I emailed David White directly to see if I could get a replacement, but's now been over a week and I haven't heard anything from them. Seems way to typical these days that companies jus don't care! This apparently is a problem, you would think that the manufacture would try to prevent this from happening, it would appear that the case was closed and boxed up before the screw was seated properly. Fortunately for me I work for an engineering and surveying company and my contact had a replacement screw. It did cost me $6.00 but I shouldn't have had to pay for it at all. I didn't return the item since I needed it to do a project, I have no problems with the reseller on this, it's all on David White. ... show more

  • A practical unit that can save expensive surveyor's time.
Item Package Quantity: 1
A rather simple, appropriately rugged level-transit. The accompanying user's manual, although small, contains several pages of useful application related information. I only gave this model 4 stars because the vertical resolution is just 1 degree as it lacks a vernier; as a result, its usefulness for evaluating distances is rather limited. The unit was delivered in good condition but the well-built plastic carrying case was damaged in transit as the relatively heavy unit was not well secured by padding inside the case. A replacement case was supplied by David White after a bit of back and forth. ... show more
