The boots are awesome, with great quality and craftsmanship. However, they were pretty large on me and I always wear a size 9.5. I ordered the same size because people say they generally run narrow, and the leather would break in anyway. However, when I got them there was quite a bit of extra room in the toe box as well as width...and I even wear a wide in some shoes. I returned to exchange for a size 9 and we'll see how those fit on Friday. Shipping was incredibly fast and the return was easy. Plus this is about the same price you can get them for on black Friday with 25% off from Danner directly. After 9 months of heavy use, the boots are obviously well broken in and are the most comfortable I've ever had. They show very little signs of wear. I have used them fairly extensively for hiking in all different ecotypes all around the country (probably 400 miles), as well as just regular daily wear. I have no doubt that these boots will last 5 years with this continued type of use and care. Only problem is the heel cups are cracking, but I'm sure they'll give me new ones. These boots do require a fairly extensive break-in...for me, that was at least 25 miles til I stopped noticing change. I, too had them give me blisters and a good bit of paint for the first 15 miles or so, perhaps more. For people who don't hike much, that is A LOT longer than they may think it is and it could take them many uses to break them in. I have no pressure points or anything with these boots. ... show more

I've been wearing this model of boot for many years. This most recent pair is indistinguishable from previous pairs in materials, quality, and appearance. They sure have gotten expensive though, luckily Amazon had a fair price. My only negative vote, the arch support category; the boot itself has very little. For light or moderate arch support, the provided inserts are decent. Many people will want to purchase their own inserts for better support. I highly recommend these boots for dayhiking, wandering, and trail backpacking. I've used these for week-long on-trail backpacking trips, years of everyday hiking as a professional archaeologist, a month-long desert survival course, and dayhikes and overnight backpacking trips in a variety of conditions. I've worn Danners in deserts, rain forests, mountains, canyons, and scrambling over rocky ocean coastlines. For serious backpacking in rugged off-trail conditions, I'd prefer a boot with stiffer sides and better support. ... show more

I measure a 10D on a Brannock device. I wear 10D in Allen Edmonds. I wear 9.5D in Wolverine 1000 Miles and in Clark's Desert Boots. I went with a 9.5D in these boots and they fit perfectly. I just received the boots and haven't really gotten to test them but I can tell they are well made like tanks.

This is my third pair....great boot. Anyone who truly works in boots daily knows they aren't going to last forever BUT these are rugged boots. As an arborist I love them for climbing. Excellent traction and not too heavy. I prefer boot that doesn't come up too high on the ankle. As far as comfort goes I wish my lifestyle would allow me to hike the Appalachian Trail. They were everything I was expecting. Should last a long time. I had read that they were going to take a long time to break in and they were right! I've had them for 6 days, wearing them everyday when i'm not wearing my military boots. The first three days were rough, but they are starting to feel good.     • Cut my Ankles

I made a big mistake and ordered these boots. I cannot believe at how viciously they cut up my ankles on only a trial wearing. I wore them for like 30 minutes only going to my car and to work on a weekend. I work in an office. Wow was I tore up just by the time I got to my desk. I was shocked and had to go back to my SUV where I thankfully had a pair of sneakers in my gym bag. Putting those sneakers on was total glory after wearing these boots. I have read online reports saying that you have to soak these in hot water and do all sorts of gimmicks to get them broken in. Whoi wants to do all that? If I had done better research I never would have ordered them. I have subsequently done much better reconnaissance and have scored much better. I ordered a pair of Scarpa GTX Terra boots. Right out of the box they feel awesome. No issues or problems. I will be sending Danner an email too vent a bit. Maybe get something back as I can no longer get a refund on this poor purchase. I guess these boots are not for everyone. I am prior military and regular combat boots never gave me any trouble. ... show more

the back of the shoe, rubbed the back of my foot, the Achilles tendon area. and, it created a blister. I wish that the shoe designer would have made a dip in the back like other boots that I have had.
