  • Great Quality and Craftmanship
I've had my pair of boots for a bit over two weeks now. I bought a pair of insoles along with them based on many other reviewers' recommendation. I ended up returning them and using the Danner Airthotics that come with the boots. I wear a size 12 across the entire footwear spectrum, and with the additional insoles they were much too snug. Without them though, these boots are incredibly comfortable. Of course at first they felt a bit snug in the toe area, but after a day or so of wearing them the leather has stretched here and there and the fit is incredible. The more you wear these boots, the more comfortable they become! I've yet to hike with them, but they've proven worthy of trekking across hilly terrain on campus. Now that spring is on its way in Pennsylvania (and it's no longer <10°F) I will be starting to hike more on some local trails. I'll update my review in a few weeks once spring fishing season starts up again! For now, though, these boots are incredible comfortable, the craftmanship is unparalleled, and I look forward to owning these boots for many years to come. They look great, too. ... show more

  • and perfect outdoorsy style
Let me just start by saying this is my second pair of Danner's. I found a twice worn pair of Crater Rim's in flawless condition for $99. Being that I could not find them anywhere in town to try on first, I was a bit concerned about the sizing of the boot. When they arrived I instantly laced them up and put them to find a heavenly fit, rugged durability, and perfect outdoorsy style. Enter the Mountain Light II. I was so pleased with the Crater Rim hiking books that I decided I wanted Danner's for work. I needed a black boot that I could walk in all day and that was strong and durable. I decided upon the Mountain Light II after calling the Danner factory for more sizing questions. The rep assured me that the boot would be the same fit as the Crater Rim, saying they were built on the same platform. I ordered, and a couple days later the boots arrived at my doorstep. They look awesome, the felt awesome instantly. Then I decided to wear them around town on errands and around the house to feel them out. They were getting uncomfortable fast. The problem? The folding tongue to lace down design causes a lot of pinching and stress on the arches of the feet. The toe box felt uncomfortable like it was too small or tight. After spending $350 on these boots, I was pretty upset with what I was experiencing on my first few days of work. It got better though.... Seeing as how I had already worn them around, I couldn't return them so I thought maybe more breaking in was needed. As it would turn out, I was right. After a week and a half of working with them on, the boot had slowly contoured and shaped itself around my feet and ankle. The leather began to break in, and after one cleaning, dressing, and re-lacing, the boots become more comfortable with each passing day. 10 out of 10 I would still buy and still prefer the Crater Rim's over these boots, but if you're thinking of getting these make sure you are willing to put in the time to properly break them in, because they most definitely will need to be. ... show more

  • I could not be more disappointed...with these reviews.
I have never heard of this "No break in period" people are claiming exists, for starters. So if you've recently purchased the boot and charged into a ten mile walk like an over zealous chump for the sake of a streamlined break in (like this guy) or the ignorance of how quality leather works (like those guys), do NOT be discouraged, these boots will break, your blisters will heal. Okay, now that having been said. I love these boots. I've worn my fair share of boots; I grew up on a farm, I worked in a warehouse, and have blazed many'a trail. These boots are the best I've had to-date (and very possibly the last I will ever need). For starters the boot's got support. The weird support souls have accommodate the boots have worked to provide the best arch support I've ever felt on my feet (and I have ABSURD arches). Further more, the break-in process has left leather that softly hugs my feet to said souls, without being too tights or too loose. Further more, the boots are SOLID. I ride a motorcycle and have accidentally put my feet in some s*** situations. Not only have these boots withstood every blow, but have done so without any grisly scarring. In the short time I've owned these boots I've maybe put about 120 miles on them, as I wear them non-stop. They're my work shoes, my casual shoes, my stroll around town boots, my hike books, my everything really (short of cycling...SPD outlet? Think about it Danners...). They have been outstanding. What's more, they're FINE. I mean FINE. I get compliments on them a lot. They look good, be it in a cafe of bucking hay, they look good. They're an excellent blend of bad-@$$ and beautiful. They'll compliment that NorthFace jacket you've instagramed on every hiking trip capitally AND they'll finalize that lumber-jack look you've been trying to dial in for so long. These boots are the...stuff...they're really awesome. Honestly, best purchase I've made all year. Oh, and for those of you who question the obscure fit or have troubles with breaking them in here's how to fix your future problems: DO NOT BUY BOOTS ONLINE. Unless you know you're feet. Buying the right boot size is an art, and not something you should pretend you know when dropping a near $300 online. Go into a store, talk to someone who knows, measure your feet, read sizing reviews, then make an educated purchase, or yes, the boots will hurt. Danner offers an array of resources to combat this issue, including width variations, meaning that they're an accommodating range of sizes, but also that dialing in YOUR boot will be more difficult and very specific. There's no scale here; no such thing as "close enough", there is only one size for your feet, know it. ... show more
