  • Great product
Works great!

  • It works well withithout its utility.
I used this on an old Compaq with AMD 64 CPU and recently upgraded to windows 7. The utility the product came with sapped the memory and slowed the computer down tremendously. I was disappointed at the time, and held on to it for months. I uninstalled the utlity and the computer ran normal and decided to use direct router connection on it until I changed to the WD Livewire connection, which is a great product. (See my review) I upgraded my D-link DIR-615 router to a DIR-655, a gigabit router to play HD media files. My HP mini netbook's wirless was not sufficient enough to play those files. I tried the DWA-131 adapter after months of storage. I did not install the Utility it came with and I uninstalled unneeded-memory-sapping programs from the HP mini to prevent the same issue I had with the compaq. I just installed the driver directly from download. I then turned off the wirless on the HP mini. and installed the DWA-131. I'M PLAYING 720P and 1080P HD MOVIES ON A NETBOOK! Makes sure you install the K-lyte codecs.(Check CNET) I never thought that a possibility on a netbook. I tested it far and near from the router, through closed doors and solid walls. The thing still works. Maybe the combination of all these things helped with the adapters great performances, but if that's what you got to do then do it. Get a high end router and clean up some junk on your netbook. As a comparison I bought a D-link Wireless-N bridge (DAP-1522) which cannot handle the HD files and always has choppy video unlike the DWA-131 N adapter. P.S., get the WD Livewire Powerline kit to use as a bridge instead of the DAP-1522(See my review of the WD LIVEWIRE). In short, I recommend this Product. ... show more

  • Constantly lose signal, tricky to manage, but it works, when it connects...
I am expanding my home network to upstairs corner with my new desktop system, where I am unable to pull a physical cable easily. Everyone said I should just get a USB adapter because I have a N wireless router. I hesitated and I am honestly not a big fan of those adapter, because from cost stand point, a USB adapter is not always cheap depend on the brand. This one is cheap, at Amazon, and it's tiny, so I give it a try. I prefer to read the manual first before do anything. The driver installation is painful, if you don't install driver first, it won't work. After that, you have to configure, assuming you are geek enough to know every network term to know what to fill at which column. After I got driver out of the way, the system initially was within 10-foot range of the router, so it worked perfect. Good connection speed. However, after I moved the system to the planned location - a corner of my upstairs house. This guy can't find the signal. My Netgear dual-band N router is working well, I used my another laptop, it capture the connection in a snap, at the same spot. But this D-Link nano, I have to move around from my 6 USB slots, to find the ones that it can detect the network and connect. I also have some problems about its connection stability. It loses signal frequently, and complains a lot, do plenty of self-trouble-shooting and gone no where. Not to mention, someone in previous review also notice, it got really "HOT" when connect over 20 minutes. So now I am considering to save up enough money to do the PowerLine option, or when Amazon has a deal / sale on those items. I will keep it, not because it's a great product, but it can get by. ... show more

  • this is by far the absolute worst networking device I've ever owned
As an IT professional with almost 20 years under my belt, this is by far the absolute worst networking device I've ever owned. Honestly, I pity anyone that has owned this or is even considering buying it. I can't put into words the levels of frustration I had dealing with this thing while trying to resolve its connectivity issues. Where to even begin... the slowness, the constant disconnects, the non-existent driver updates, or perhaps the total lack of support for well documented problems. As an IT leader that has worked across several Fortune 100 companies, I have purchased hundreds of thousands of dollars worth networking equipment from the top manufactures and I long considered D-Link to be one of them. However, this tiny device and the hellish customer service experience forced me to rethink that. I truly gave this device and D-Link ever possible chance at redemption (and then some) before I said f it and replaced it. Tried multiple machines (laptops, desktops, network media server devices), drivers, software, OS's, routers, router settings (security settings, no security settings, various network types), distance testing and everything else under the sun with the same end result... it's a piece of s***. To give you an idea of how horrible the speeds are on this thing, I ran several speed tests from 5 different devices (2 galaxy tablets, 1 galaxy note 3, 1 desktop using the dwa-131, and a wired connection from laptop) and 3 different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, IE) in order to test my recently upgrade FIOS Quantum internet running at 75/75mbps. All the mobile devices were roughly the same with minor fluctuations coming in at around 40-50dl/35-45up. The wired laptop came in at a sexy 84dl/93up (had to clean off my screen when I saw that lol). AND last but not least the desktop witht he DWA-131 came in at a pathetic 1.8dl/1.2up... wth is that? Decide for yourselves, but you've been warned. ... show more
