  • AC1200 vs AC1900 vs AC2600
The AC1200 router is blazing fast on my 100 mbps plan. With an ac Wi-fi connection, I see nearly 93 mbps on my cell phone and 110 over wire. It is fast enough for a quality 4K HDR stream on my TV even while sharing with multiple active devices. Reliability? I never think about it, it just works. 3 walls and 30 feet away still delivers a good signal, but 4 walls and 40 feet away is pretty much useless. Allowing Wi-fi login for administrative settings is convenient, though the potential for blunt force hackers worry me a little bit. There are guest account settings for visitor specific wifi if you want to keep your password private. Recommended for small homes or apartments under 1,000 sq ft. I also received a sample of AC1900 from Amazon Vine to review. It doubles the range of the AC1200 and has more security features such as a customizable firewall. I got 112 mbps over ethernet on my 100 mbps Spectrum plan, and around 105 mbps on my cell. It can go through 5 walls and 80 feet and still leave a bar of signal, enough to stream video. The portal is easier to navigate and have more settings. Same reliability- have not had to reboot at all since installation. There is a bug though- enabling all the firewall settings (except DMZ) caused my LG 55UH7650 TV to repeatedly turn on and off. No other devices were affected. We had to go to a wired connection to stop the problem. It needs to be fixed in the next firmware update. Not recommended. I recently received the AC2600 and it's by far the best of the group. Range is 50% stronger than the AC1900- sufficient for up to 6 walls and 100 feet away. 120 mbps on my cell phone, with a 100 mbps plan and the stock modem from Spectrum. With minimal blockage, you can get signal as far as 300 ft away. It is smaller and cooler too. The administrative settings are identical to the AC1900, with remote login, guest WiFi mode, and a firewall. We saw none of the connected device auto-reset issues that plagued the AC1900. I recommend this model for homes up to 3,000 square feet. Keep in mind though, security patches are rare and slow to release. We lived with the KRACK security hole for 8 months after it was revealed. The latest security patch is 2020. ... show more

  • Great router for what I need
A great router for the price! Haven't had any issues with it other than one small flaw. The flaw being: I was somehow able to bypass the password to my 5ghz channel with my nintendo switch by standing basically on top of the device. Very strange as to why it even worked that way. So if you have kids it could be a loophole, but i have not tested it with any other devices. Works great though, we live in a trailer, and get full wifi no matter what part of the house we are in, as well as most of our 2 acre yard too. ... show more

  • Set up mostly easy, couple surprises, works well
I largely agree with previously-posted reviews. It took me 25 minutes to set up with my Mac OSx Sierra, not bad...some reviews indicate as little as 20 minutes. The Mac at times is almost too smart and I did not realize at first it automatically linked both the 2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz as choices for my wireless network choices immediately, so the instructions became somewhat superfluous, a setback, because then I had to try to figure out how to (1) rename the networks and (2) set my own passwords versus the overly-long factory set password. THAT was not in the instructions and hard to find on the net, but once done, it worked like a champ on all our devices.. We only stream music now (lots - Sirius/XM subscribers), but this should allow us to easily stream video. For $59.95, a pretty good buy and will improve our wireless world nicely. ... show more

  • Not a bad router for the price.
Great little router on the 2.4 ghz band. 5 ghz not so much. I can only use the upper band on things that are in the same room as the router, like my TV, Alexa, etc. It doesn't work at the back of my house (it's only 1044 sq ft). The 2.4 ghz band works great. It has better range than my old cisco router. Overall I'm pleased with this purchase. I would also note that I bought two of these. I hooked the other up at my brother's house in hopes it would extend his network to his unattached garage. The 2.4 ghz signal could be seen but not reliably. The 5 ghz band couldn't be seen at all in the garage. ... show more

  • Best signal for my dsl
I have dsl, and the slowest, most horrible WiFi in the USA. I live in a bad location to receive internet, basically a poor pocket of signal. After my second gateway bit the dust in eight months I was ready to try another brand, I read the reviews and purchased this and a dsl modem. First off, because it is dlink my cable company was not able to help me with installation. I’m also in my 60’s. This was the most incredible installation help division ever. I can’t say enough for their patience and expertise. End result I installed it all myself with a ton of help from them, and now my WiFi, while still slow does not drop, and I get much better signal to all parts of the house. I highly recommend them, their help was incredible. I will buy them again!!!! ... show more

  • it seems to be perfect. Setup required me to pull my old router ...
Review after one day. I bought this to replace a Linksys ea2700 N600 dual band that would not provide adequate signal strength throughout a two-story 2400 sqft home, with all upstairs bedrooms getting weak signal strength, and one room where wireless devices would get intermittently dropped from the network. The 2400 band of the D-Link DIR-842 reaches the whole house at full bars. That's what I bought it for, and for that, it seems to be perfect. Setup required me to pull my old router and plug this one in. Turn it on (yes, it has a power switch). Let the router boot up. THEN, I tied in my laptop with an ethernet cable, and it would connect to the network, but with no internet access. I fixed that simply by resetting the cable modem. After that, I followed the setup wizard through its steps, and done. Super easy setup. No complaints at this point. ... show more
