Description

D’Addario NYXL guitar strings will bend further, sing louder, and stay in tune better than any string you’ve played before. Envisioned, perfected, and manufactured by D’Addario in New York, this newly engineered, break-resistant, high-carbon steel core and plain steel alloy delivers a whole new level of freedom, confidence, and power. NYXL’s provide more strength and up to 131% greater tuning stability by utilizing a completely reinvented wire drawing process coupled with a revolutionary “fusion twist” process for the plain steels. The reformulated nickel plated string windings have greater magnetic properties resulting in higher output and enhanced mid-range frequency response for more presence and crunch.

  • Best Guitar strings hands down
Size: 3-Pack Style: Regular Light, 10-46 Pattern Name: Guitar Strings
TL;DR: These things are some sort of magic steel forged from Dwarven Mithril. The hype is real, D'addario are string wizards. Like a lot of guitarists, I never really cared that much about strings. Sure I've had packs that I liked more than others, sure I have a gauge that I prefer, but I was never overly picky and never saw the point in buying expensive strings. In fact, I had a bad experience with some premium Elixers years and years ago that probably wasn't indicative of how good Elixer strings actually are, but it pretty much put me off of ever buying strings priced over $5. After recently having multiple strings break while restringing with more affordable strings, I decided to finally give NYXL strings a try. I've always heard that they are really good but never gave in to the hype. It's kind of hard to accurately describe these strings. They are phenomenal really. They have a feel that no other string I've tried has. There's like a slightly tighter tension there, but the resistance is still at the level I want for bending. I like 10s because I want easier bends, but still have more push back and resistance than a set of 9s (which feel like spaghetti noodles to me). These things feel almost like the tension of 11s (which I used to use for many years until I realized they were killing my fingers) but are so easy to play. They almost have like a very slightly waxy feel, which honestly feels amazing under your fingers. It probably sounds silly but they honestly do have a premium feel to them. I had zero issues stringing these up, and didn't need to pre-stretch them near as much as other strings I've used. They also just straight up stay in tune. I've only had to retune my LP slightly, and my Tele is rock solid. I can imagine these working really well for trems. I normally can't tell the difference between how strings sound. Since I've switched from 11s to 10s I can't tell a difference from either gauge besides feel. But these strings are obviously louder with a punchier mid range. Personally I'm not a huge fan of how bright and shrill a brand new set of strings can be, but these don't have that issue. The bright treble is definitely there, but the mid range is so much more pronounced, which is what I like personally. I never thought I'd prefer the sound of one set of strings to another, but these really do make my guitars sound the way I feel they were meant to sound. They really fill out to sound of my Tele as well which was a pleasant surprise. I've been playing these for hours on end on both my Tele and LP for almost a week now while playing at home and rehearsal in my band. I can't see any real signs of wear. Normally around this time I've worn in a new set of strings pretty thoroughly but this are still pretty close to looking new. More importantly they still sound just as bright as a fresh pack. The fact that D'addario offers a points reward system as well is pretty awesome. Seems like for every 8 packs I can get a free pack of these, which is more than I can say for any other brand. Long story short, the hype is real. Yes these are at a premium price, but with how long they last, how great they sound, how long they sound great, and how great they feel, it's really a no brainer. These strings truly are amazing. I won't string any of my electric guitars with anything else now that I've tried these. ... show more

  • They last a long time
Size: 1-Pack Style: Super Light, 09-42 Pattern Name: Guitar Strings
What I like most about NYXL strings is that they have great tuning stability and last a long time. These are the longest lasting strings I have ever used. (I have been playing guitar over 40 years). They sound great as well and I have not had any issues with corrosion. (I always wipe them down after playing). I once had to throw away many sets of Gibson strings I had on the shelf long term due to rust, not so with these strings which are also sealed in plastic. They cost a little more but for the convenience / long life I feel they are worth the price. ... show more

  • Expensive habit
Size: 1-Pack Style: Regular Light, 10-46 Pattern Name: Guitar Strings
The first thing I noticed about these was how even (and light) the tension is across the strings. This combined with the bright (but not piercing) tone and exceptional stability and clarity give you a high level of confidence in chordal playing, which suddenly becomes more fun! I can instantly hear even the slightest dissonance in chords, so when they ring extra true song after song, it makes that guitar a go-to for that kind of playing. These are NOT coated, which helps them have a more natural feel and tone, although they do feel "special"; a bit slicker than average on the wound strings especially and they are very slinky. Another odd thing I noticed is that there isn't much of a honeymoon phase with these that you get with typical strings----that break-in period where most strings are ultra-bright and twangy before mellowing to the essential tone. These seem to be immediately broken in. I wouldn't describe these as extremely bright or boomy, so if you are looking for strings to make up for a guitar that lacks one of these, these aren't the cure. If you want strings that scream on the high end, look into stainless steel strings. These are more about balance, clarity and consistency. They are a bit less twangy and more difficult to get pinch harmonics with than many rock-oriented strings, which some people would conclude makes them less lively. I have to agree with that, although they are more lively than coated strings for sure, and again, the consistency is amazing. Are they worth the price? I wouldn't put them on every guitar in my collection. Then again, I spend a lot of time matching the strings and gauges to each guitar individually, so I use different types. I put these on my #1 guitar (Charvel USA super strat HH) and they are fantastic. I seem to almost never need to retune it now. Previously, I used Rotosound Yellows on that guitar, although I think these have the edge on them. For my traditional Fender Strats, I am 100% happy with the Plain Jane D'Addario XLs, which cost about 1/3 as much as these and crank out more twang. Definitely worth trying a set of NYXLs on your best guitar first to decide what you think about them.... ... show more

  • Go-To Guitar Strings for Blues and Shred
Size: 1-Pack Style: Medium, 7-String, 11-64 Pattern Name: Guitar Strings
I use these to practice Jam Blues and Classic rock on an LTD 7 string w/Floyd Rose. The Good: - Hold Quality for 2+ months of consistent playing (2hrs a day) - Easy to bend, feel durable for a full tone easily - Stretching period is rather short after restringing The Bad - Slightly pricier - High E strings are made of glass early in string life (make sure you stretch em good before you throw full tone bends on the 17 fret) Excellent tone, easy to play, hold well. Heavily preferred over Ernie Ball 7-string sets ... show more
