I love this set! Lots of different sizes and uses makes it a great value. They are cast iron so they’re kind of heavy. I didn’t think they too heavy, but my mom did. They are very rough when you first get them so season, season, season! Cook really fatty foods on them first and then they won’t stick… unless you forget to heat the pan first or don’t season well. They have even heat distribution if on the right eye. I use them on my cooktop and in the oven with no problems. You can even use them on the grill, in the smoker, or over the campfire (selling points for my husband). I've rediscovered the joys of cast iron, and haven't had to pay through the nose. Gosh, I love using this! Pancakes are fluffy and perfectly browned. Meat has a nice, tasty crisp exterior and is evenly cooked. So far, the pan lies flat with no bulges. I am cooking on an old-style coil electric, which I greatly prefer over those modern smooth cooktops. I see it does have some texture, isn't smooth. If anything, this might be desirable? Everything I've cooked in this turns out PERFECTLY. Clean up: Oh, the opinions re cast iron are all over the place. Here's what I'm doing: . Let it cool a bit, then wipe excess. . Go ahead, use a little soap and water and get it clean . Key: Make sure you dry it ASAP! Take the red rubber protective sleeve off (I don't use it) and make sure the pan and handle are completely dry. You can even put it on the stove and dry it that way but don't burn yourself! . Sometimes I put a bit of sunflower oil in and wipe it around. I cook with olive oil, sunflower, coconut oil, whatever. Let the pan get hot, then add the oil. Don't let the oil burn. (These are also 'notes to self') So far, this is all working out great and I plan to buy some more cast iron because I am never going back to 'non-stick' crap. Even the 'stone' type can't compare. First off, if you are coming to the reviews while deciding to buy, these look exactly like the pic for the sets . second I bought the 17pc set #3 . that's 17 pieces total from pans to holder to accessories. 9 pots or pans (Dutch oven lid doubles as a pan), one lid which fits the square pan, one pan holder shelf, 2 scrapers ( 1 textured 1 flat) and 6 silicone handles. These are easy to use once you aquaint yourself with how cast iron is and proper cleaning methods. They are heavy. It's cast iron not some flimsy pan so be prepared to carry in a heavy box or unbox on your porch and carry in the individual packing boxes. Our came in a variety of sizes for all of someone's cooking needs. The smaller 6in is great for eggs or single burger etc or to bake up a small batch of corn bread in. The heat distribution is much better than a thin pan there is less uneven heat temps like a cheapo pan with Teflon. So while the part on the burner may be slightly hotter, overall the heat is better distributed. If you preheat these to a good temp and use oil or butter, things shouldn't stick , make sure to keep a decent amt going. I can't stress how good of a value this set is!! I've priced pieces individually in stores and one piece can be $30-50. I've also priced second hand pieces and they want more $ than buying new ... show more

After owning and using this iron skillet for a few months, I am updating it from two stars to four because I was unfair to it in the original review. It's a much better pan than I gave it credit for in my first review, which you can read below. The rough surface I complained about in my prior review has smoothed out with use. It is now my go-to skillet for sautéing. Between uses I rarely clean it with hot water; in fact, hardly with water at all. I generally use just a damp paper towel, sometimes not even damp. I keep the cooking temperature at low-medium so nothing burns in the pan. I must admit this strategy has helped my cooking per se, as lower temperatures work to infuse various tastes better. And, of course, nothing gets burnt; consequently, nothing sticks to the pan, or, at least, very little compared to higher temperatures. My apologies to the pan! OLD REVIEW This iron skillet is advertised as arriving already seasoned. Nonetheless, I seasoned it again before I used it. I clean it and oil the cooking surface it before storing it. The problem with this skillet is that the cooking surface is not smooth, in fact it's very rough; consequently, food sticks to it. This requires some elbow grease to clean, if you'll excuse the pun. The pan is clearly not made thoughtfully or the cooking surface would have been polished until it was smooth to prevent food sticking to it. The skillet is made in China. Unfortunately, so many Chinese products are not well made. This is one of them. Had I realized the pan was made there, I would have passed and gone for one made in the USA or Germany or some Western country. It's too much bother to send it back, so I'll keep it until I am too frustrated with it, sell it at a yard sale and buy one made in the West. Will cost more, of course, but the money will be worth the aggravation. ... show more

These pans are amazing the heat is evenly distributed so no hot spots. They are very durable if a person oils them they could easily out live the purchaser. I like that I can use metal utensils and don't have to worry about ruining the pan or feed my family some non stick coating. If oiled right these are as nonstick as they get. There is a size pan for what ever your doing and you can bake in them. ... show more
