  • Great coffee maker and excellent warranty service!
Color: Stainless
I love this coffee maker. It makes coffee precisely and just the way I like it every time, regardless of the number of cups selected. The front control panel is a little challenging to figure out when it comes to programming, but once you get that set, you're good to go. It is easy to clean and works like a charm. But... Mine failed after about 10 months - it stopped sensing whether there was water in the reservoir and would not brew. However, I called customer service, explained the problem, sent a photo and had a replacement within 2 days. Surprisingly outstanding customer service and warranty support. Now, I had given this very same model to a friends two years ago, and theirs is still working perfectly and they love it. So while I don't know exactly why mine failed, I don't think it is necessarily a problem with the model itself. And the warranty support was excellent. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • One of the best grind and brew coffee makers we've tried
Color: Stainless
The DGB-800 is our fourth grind and brew type coffee maker. The last one was a Cuisinart DGB-475 that lasted so long I can't remember when we bought it. Maybe 13 years ago? It started having problems with the pump and the white plastic was getting pretty nasty looking. We bought a GEVI coffee maker before this new one, and it quit working after a few uses. It has a defective design where a hatch cover gets steamed up and jams, there is really no way to fix it. Couldn't get support or contact the seller and ended up dumping it. Total junk and sleazy seller. So back to the DGB-800. This is finally a model we can get behind. It's about as good as our first grind and brew style maker, a Melitta that was designed very well. Unlike the DGB-475, the DGB-800 does not steam up the grinding area. Well, maybe it does but you can't see it, and there's no moisture collecting in the bean hopper. We like our coffee on the strong side, and the fine burr grind along with the mesh filter makes really great coffee. Quite a contrast from the blade grinder and paper filters. Only one complaint, there's no way to turn on the hotplate once it shuts off? That's a silly oversight. I'm tempted to add a switch. The alternative is to set the timeout to 4 hours and turn it off when you're done. So far, highly recommend this coffee maker. We'll be pleased if it lasts anywhere near as long as the last one, and I'll update the review if any issues arise. ... show more

  • Decent coffee, with some problems (UPDATE_
Color: Stainless
UPDATE - This is a poorly made piece of junk. Since the review written below, coffee maker #2 broke with the same problem coffee maker #1 arrived with. I did a warranty exchange and got coffee maker #3, which eventually started grinding the same amount of beans regardless of setting and now will not brew at all. Three coffee makers, all broken despite being maintained properly. Not even 1 year. Next time I'm just buying a basic drip coffee maker and decent grinder. I'd normally have given this 4 stars but I ran into some quality control issues that isn't really acceptable for a fairly expensive coffee maker. I bought this to replace an existing all in one burr grinder coffee maker that had started giving up the ghost. When I first attempted brew a pot, the coffee maker didn't do anything other than hum and a couple drops of water dripped out. I thought maybe the burr grinder was jammed so I emptied the hopper and tried my best to get all the beans out of the grinder. Here's the first design problem - there's no way to really access the grinder in any meaningful fashion. If it's jammed, you're SOL, you can't get anything in there to clear it. Maybe it was jammed, maybe it wasn't. I have no idea. I kept trying to get it to work, and the coffee maker refused to even attempt to grind. It would keep alerting me that I hadn't cleared the basket from the previous attempt... but it was empty and I had opened and closed it multiple times. Attempts to just run a basic no-grind drip and maybe force a reset were met with the same sort of hum as if it was still trying to grind. I gave up, returned it, and got a replacement. This really annoyed me especially considering my previous coffee maker also required replacement (twice in fact) when I first got it. Coffee maker number 2, I ran a basic no-grind, no-coffee cycle to just flush out the system as suggested in the manual. That ran fine, and then I attempted to make a normal grind. Because I hadn't opened the basket between the flush and my attempt to make coffee, it refused to grind with it thinking the basket had not been emptied. Again, as suggested by the directions, I stopped the cycle opened the basket, reseated it, closed it and tried again. It still refused to grind. It was stuck in a state of thinking the basket was full. I tried many combinations reseating the basket, but nothing worked. I finally got it to work after resorting to unplugging and plugging it back in. Which brings up design issue #2 - there's no way to override what it thinks its state is. You can't just say "do it anyway". That's a relatively minor issue provided that a power cycle always resets it. So now it's been working fine. How does it work in normal operation? It's acceptable. Pros: 12 cup capacity is nice, and the hopper is decently sized. Grinder is also relatively quiet for an inexpensive burr grinder. Con: This is a big one for me, and what knocks a star off - you can't adjust the fineness of the grind. The coffee I like tastes best when it's more finely ground than the grinder is set to. That means I have to set the grind amount higher than the number of cups I'm making. So if I'm making 10 cups, I have to set the grind to 12 cups. I feel like I'm just wasting coffee when I could use less coffee if I could set a finer grind. This would be a really great coffee maker if you could just set the grind fineness. ... show more

  • Pretty good
Color: Stainless
Nice looking, large. Note: it doesn't fit underneath the overhead cabinets. It works well, but my husband likes strong coffee and even at the highest strength the coffee is a little weak, even for me. We did a work around by setting it to the strongest setting and telling it we were making 12 cups, but then only putting enough water in for 8-10 cups. That way it made it strong enough. The burr grinder crushes the beans, but there tend to be little chunks so I don't think it gets as much flavor out as a regular grinder. At the strongest setting the whole basket is full of grounds, so it uses a lot of beans, too. The taste is good/great, though. Nice and fresh. Oh -- the pot is the exact same pot as an older 14 cup model we had, but with markings farther apart on the glass for 12 cups. So, even though this says 12 cups, these are full sized cups. It is very easy to clean. In retrospect, I might have been happier with the simpler one with the other kind of grinder that makes a finer ground, even though the other one is much harder to clean. ... show more
