It's been 1.5 years and everything is great. I have the very smallest unit for only a 600 gal pond. The summers here in Augusta are brutal and the unit is under a fake rock. My pond is in the full sun all day long and these summers in Georgia are brutal. So I wonder about some of the other reviews. Maybe I don't have problems since my pond is so small? I haven't had any trouble and it runs 24/7. I run my waterfall with the UV filter during the day, in addition to the aeration. I notice some koi like to sit near the bottom next to the diffuser. I've even considered adding another in the deeper part of the pond, just to keep the water moving more to keep predators confused. Or at least that's what I tell myself. :) ... show more

    • GOOD QUALITY AT A GOOD PRICE

Late this summer our 2,200 gallon goldfish water garden developed a large "muck" build up that no amount of beneficial bacteria would resolve & it was too large a job to vacuum out. I realized that the answer was more circulation/air in the water. After lots of online research I chose the Airmax KoiAir . I installed it a few days ago and here are my initial thoughts: Pump> appears to be very good quality; is heavy and has 4 rubber feet on the base and a carry handle @ the back; easy replacement/maintenance namely a filter and the diaphrams [they do wear out after a while] Weighted airline> love it! as soon as it hits the water its sitting on the bottom and out of sight Diffusers/plate> plate is weighted so it sinks immediately; diffusers have a rubber sleeve that appears to be replaceable Spring Clamps> I don't trust so I used two screw clamps [found in plumbing supply stores] to make sure the airline stayed attached. Surprise Included> discovered that the connector for the diffuser plate is a "check valve" ;was very pleasantly surprised at this [if your unfamiliar with check valves, they are a back-flow prevention devices i.e. they only allow flow in one direction, this protects the air-pump]. Price> after researching several brands of aeration kits for water-gardens I found the KoiAir not the cheapest or highest but the "best bang for your buck" Installation> was a snap and took all of about 10 mins [took me longer to decide where to put the pump!] The air-pump is bigger than it appears in images! Measuring about 8 1/2" front to back x 6" wide x 6 1/2" height; Airmax recommends that you place pump on something to keep water out [i.e. heavy rains], I used a 1 1/2" thick stone block. It is also recommended that you cover the pump for protection from sun/rain, etc. I ended up buying a Airmax True Rock cover. It hasn't arrived yet so will do a review on it when it comes. NOTE: this kit is designed for use in "decorative" backyard Koi/goldfish/water-gardens. It is NOT for a farm [fishing] pond or lake which holds a much larger volume of water than backyard/decorative ponds and thus require a much larger aeration system than the KoiAir1 or 2. UPDATE 3/2017 With Spring here [well almost] I removed the leaf net from my pond and I am amazed! The pond hasn't been that clear for years! If you have problems with muck / leaf build up in your decorative ponds I highly recommend the Airmax KoiAir it does the job!! ... show more

    • Very powerful Aerator for a 1500 gallon Koi Pond

The media could not be loaded. I just finished constructing a new pond four weeks ago and am still getting it cycled. The volume of the pond is approximately 1500 gallons and 3 feet deep. I was going through a pea soup algae bloom and added a UV clarifier which has really cleared up the water in the last few days. I have now added an aerator. I purchased the CrystalClear KoiAir Mini Water Garden Aerator Kit and received the item on time and within the promised delivery date. The kit consists of the air pump, sinkable air hose and a single diffuser. Installation was very simple and I was up and running within 10 minutes of unboxing. As you can see from the video clip, the kit provides quite a bit of aeration and really agitates the waters surface. I have it located on one end of the pond as the opposite end has the waterfall return. My hope is that the aeration occurs on both sides of the pond with the area in between being the currents formed so we can see the fishes clearly. The pump itself is very quiet and is drowned out by the sound of the water rippling. So it is not that bad at all. The only negative is that the diffuser is not that heavy. It does sink but because of the "strain" on the air hose the diffuser I found that the diffuser wanted to flip over. I used nylon zip ties to secure the diffuser to a small stone and this have kept it upright at the bottom of the pond. So far, after one day of operation, I am pleased. No complaints on the supplier and the operation of the aerator. It is a good purchase and I am very pleased thus far. ... show more

    • First impressions are great - with 2 year update

Update October 2020: Following 24/7 duty cycle the past two years, I noticed that the quality and quantity of bubbles was dramatically waning, even after changing out the foam filter as recommended by the vendor. I opened the unit and discovered several gaskets were worn. I spoke with the vendor and they suggested a rebuild kit that they sell for around $10. Shipping cost doubled that amount, but this is still a reasonable price in my opinion. The vendor supplies all parts that should be replaced. The job is not hard, but I do suggest you try the air flow before installing the main cover, as I hadn’t seated one assembly properly, initially. When I put the pump back onto the diffuser hose, I was surprised that there still was no bubble flow, even though I knew the pump was pushing some air now. I reeled out the diffuser and discovered it had become water logged. I emptied the water and took advantage of the removal to thoroughly clean the diffuser too. All assembled - I’m back in business, just like new again. End of Oct 2020 update. Introduced the bubbler today to my 8000 gallon koi pond. I placed the bubbler at rough center of the oval shaped pond, probably around 3.5 feet depth. The bubbles are of good quality without being a roiling volcano. I think the water action will do a handy job of its primary reason for purchase, which is to keep an open area during freezing New England winters. The fish seem to really like the bubbles too, which is nice. First impressions are quite positive. The device feels and looks to be made with quality materials, including the hose. While I can’t comment on long term of course, I’m very happy with this purchase. ... show more
