Description

If you could eliminate one chronic home brewing time-suck, what would it be? How about the Transfer Trap. . . You know, where you endlessly shift your homebrewed beer from fermenter, to secondary to bottling bucket, to bottles, risking contamination and messy spills at every step. The great news is, you can. There's a better, simpler way: The Catalyst - an ingeniously designed fermentation system from Craft-A-Brew. The Catalyst's tank is made from Titrant, a food-safe, BPA-free polymer. This revolutionary material retains the same clarity and smoothness of glass, but is resistant to shattering. It is more durable and outlasts the other types plastic typically used in home brewing. You can even put it and the removable silicone gasket in your dishwasher for easy cleanup. Properly cared for, the tank will last for years to come. The Catalyst is engineered to optimize ever cubic inch of space, resulting in an incredibly sturdy stand with I-beam and honeycomb construction, squat 6. 5 Gallon tank and 3" Trub Traps Butterfly Valve - the largest in the industry. The result is an efficient, practically indestructible system that fits easily under a table or on a countertop. No specialized equipment required. The Trub Traps on The Catalyst is designed to work with any large-mouthed mason jar, which makes catching and storing viable yeasts or separating sediment super simple. The Catalyst Fermentation System Includes: 6. 5 Gallon Tank with Lid Stand (Base, 2 Legs, 2 Support Beams, 8 Screws) 3" Proprietary Butterfly Valve Bottling Attachment Transfer Tubing Clamp Rubber Stopper 16 Oz. • Easy and efficient
Style: Conical Fermenter
It's far more attractive than the standard brew bucket and also easier than racking a batch of beer from a primary to a secondary tank. The valve on the bottom connected to a jar makes removing the trub easy. Its a little messy and you need a bowl or a pan underneath to catch the drips, but what else would you expect when removing a container that is 100% full. Like any canning jar you need to be careful when screwing it in. The threads on those kinds of jars are a pain. It takes a little practice to get a feel for how it should attach so the threads aren't crossed. But people have been using those types of jars for years to can stuff so it shouldn't be that hard to get a feel for it. I like the design so you don't have to move the brew. Its a primary, secondary, and bottling tank all in one. The only downside is that if you want multiple batches going at the same time you need multiple Catalyst Fermenters. They are more expensive than simple carboys and buckets but to be able to remove the trub and not have to fuss with sanitizing a new tank to rack the beer makes it worth the investment. ... show more

  • An amazing product
Style: Conical Fermenter
I'm fairly new to brewing my own beer. During my journey of discovery I've learned that the single biggest obstacle to a "REALLY" good batch is sediment. Hops sediment, to be specific. The brewing process requires that you move the wort (or unfermented beer) from the cooking vessel to the container it will reside in during the fermentation process. Then you need to transfer it again to a vessel where the sugar solution is added, and yet again into the bottles where the batch will finish. The goal is to reduce the amount of sediment in the wort during each transfer. This is NOT an easy task - invariably, some sediment is always transferred, which shows up in each bottle of beer. The Catalyst, however, completely removes sediment from the equation. Sure - there will be sediment from the transfer from the cooking vessel, but the design of this system allows the sediment to settle into a mason jar that you can easily segregate from the brewed batch to dispose of. It's so easy to add the additional fermentation sugar and to load up individual bottles from the Catalyst. This device has been a game-changer for me and my hobby. I can produce beer that is completely free of any sediment, and rivals any commercially available product for clarity. Also, just wanted to add that Craft A Brew is an amazing company. Their customer service folks are VERY smart. And patient. They LISTEN to your concerns, and are more than capable of offering really helpful advice. A really good product from a really good DIY provider. Whether you're experienced, or a newbie to home brewing, you just can't go wrong while working with the Craft A Brew folks. ... show more

  • Absolutely love this product!
Style: Conical Fermenter
To keep is short, everything came packages well. Assembly was 15 minutes tops and super easy. I love having a visual on my brews in progress, it is honestly a game changer. The valve and mason jar on the bottom is also great because its simple enough to operate and remove the trub and excess materials from the beer. The top latches down easy enough and the plug at top works great. For the plug, I personally had it in hot water with Star San along with blowoff tube so i could put slip the tubing in easier. It is a hard plug. Let the plug cool before you try to push into the cover hole, it may slip through if you push too hard. I may have done that, but once it cooled its perfect. The biggest thing I found on other threads it that people are installing the valve upside down. The handle, meaning the piece you grab, should be pointing down towards mason jar/floor for the valve to be fully open. If you put it on the other way, the handle will hit the container and not open fully. Once again, love this product. Will recommend to everyone and will personally be buying another in late spring to get the summer brews going! Happy brewing everyone! ... show more

  • Better than the carboy
Style: Conical Fermenter
Great product. Easy to clean. Easy to reduce the accumulated yeast before transferring to the keg. Sturdy stand and easy to carry even when full. Lid and cork seal have been fine, although there is little headspace, so if one brewed with a large starting SG and a vigorous yeast species, I could potentially see issues with the cork staying in place , but that can be true in glass carboys as well. I did add the additional stop cock kit, and had better results swapping the included soft and easily distorted inner o-ring with a standard ball valve cornelius keg o-ring. Drilling to add the stop cock, even with a small pilot hole, resulted in some minor 1 - 2mm chipping in the hard plastic. Not significant enough to overwhelm the o-rings, but if I were to do it again, I would read up on drilling hard plastics / acrylics first. ... show more
