I used these to decorate a wall in my bedroom. They do have a strong smell when taking them out of the package so I washed them in the bathtub with a little laundry detergent. I did this before taking the ties off which made it super easy and then hung them to dry. That took the smell right now and they were ready to use in an hour. I used thumbtacks to put them up but am going to go through later with some clay and stick them to the wall. I found the tacks were easiest for changing the configuration around. My only complaint about them is that there are parts that you can tell they melted smaller strands together to make them 7ft and that leaves residual plastic. These are beautiful, but you will definitely want to hang them outside for several hours when they first arrive. The odor that comes of of them is like a very strong chemical smell, and it is definitely overwhelming.

They had a strong smell upon opening but I hung them in my garage overnight and they were fine the next day! I used them to decorate my sons room, they look so cute. A good amount for the price.
