I happen to have a refrigerator that does NOT have an icemaker. I'm so happy to have this instead. Runs super quiet and makes ice cubes very quickly. The first batch always seems to be a little thinner that those that follow so I guess that is just part of the process. I added water up to the fill line and with just that amount of water, this created more than 100 ice cubes. So handy to have this on the counter to add fresh ice cubes to cold drinks. The unit does not keep the ice cubes frozen so once you have a batch of ice cubes you need to scoop them out and put them in your freezer.     • Perfect Ice Maker - And How To Keep It Clean!

We moved to a new house and sadly there was no waterline for our fridge. Not the biggest deal, but we are really bad about remembering to empty and refill ice trays. I did some research on countertop ice makers and came across this one. It's the perfect size, doesn't make a lot of noise, and it makes enough ice in a good amount of time. The ice melts down into the water reservoir and can be reused. A common complaint I saw about this particular model was of mold growing inside the water reservoir and above the area where the ice is made. We've had our ice maker a while, and have done my best to keep it clean. The instructions do not share how to prevent mold, but I figured out that if you remove the two screws under the lifting lid above the ice, you can remove the whole top half of the ice maker to clean out everything carefully. It also recommends using the self-cleaning function (holding down the power button until all the lights start flashing) at least once a week, and draining out the water and cleaning it with mild soap regularly. I also add a capful of white vinegar and run the self-cleaning every other week, dump it out, and run the self cleaning again with fresh water and dump that out. It has helped keep any mold issues at bay, and our ice sparkling. I hope this helps anyone who is on the fence from the reviews about the mold, and I hope this helps anyone else who is looking into getting this one. As I said, it's fairly quiet, but when the ice drops, it does make a bit of noise. You get used to it pretty quick, but it does spook the cats sometimes, ha ha. ... show more

I was so excited to have this ice maker! First 2 times I used it, it worked perfectly! Third time I go to use it, it made the first batch of ice, then after that it kept indicating that it needed water, even though the water was at the fill line. So I shut it off let it sit for a few minutes, turned it back on and it made a batch of ice, then AGAIN it indicated it needed water, and this has been ongoing. Now it will only make ice if I shut it off and turn it back on, repeat, repeat, repeat....so disappointing! I guess I'll be returning it. Edit: I decided to exchange it for a new machine, and have used it several times without incident. The second one so far is working perfectly. I can have an entire freezer bag of ice in less than an hour. Takes much longer to freeze ice in trays, never have to mess with that again! My aunt also bought one, and hers is working good too. The exchange process was very easy and convenient also! They just simply send you a new one, and give you a time limit to return the broken one and you're not charged. This gizmo does precisely what it says it will do: sit on a countertop and produce ice quickly. It's fairly quiet. The controls are simple and simple to understand; the capacity is adequate for general household needs. One thing you should know: the ice "cubes" form around bullet-shaped freezing bars, so the ice is hollow. This means it warms up faster than a solid ice cube would melt. This ice maker really will give u several pounds of ice within 24 hrs!!! In less than 5 hrs, we had filled our ice tray in the freezer. I'm so happy with this purchase!! We live in South Florida and got a water filter attached to the sink; however, the water rarely gets cold, so this ice maker is very convenient. The ice cubes will melt if you don't move them to the freezer when they're done bc as other reviews have stated: this is an ice MAKER not a freezer. It's not meant to store your ice cubes, so if you're looking for a product that does that, look elsewhere. BUT, if you're looking for perfectly crisp bullet ice cubes made within mins, GET THIS RIGHT NOW. Also, saw ppl mention the cube size changing thing the manual mentions, and I don't even think that's a feature applicable to this machine. I don't even understand why it's included in the manual as if it's a viable option. I like the little basket and scoop it comes with. Makes it very easy to transfer the ice to the freezer! We keep our scoop in our freezer's ice box bc there's no handle or anything on the ice maker. Plus, like I said, this is an ice MAKER, not a freezer. Oh yeah, not sure why other ppl included this, but the flavor of the ice is dependent on the water you use just as with plain ice trays. I use filtered tap water and I live in South Florida.
