  • Worked great!
Exactly what we needed, Copper Naphthenate is hard to come by in my area (Phoenix metropolitan area) but it’s required by code for new construction and additions. This was easy to apply, definitely turned the wood green to indicate it’s been applied (which was great since our inspector was a little special). The odor is very, VERY strong, (again great because our inspector was a bit special) but that is the nature of the product (It reminds me of a permanent marker) with that being said, the strong odor is temporary. It will diminish as it sets into wood. We were/are doing an addition to our house and the odor carried into the main house for maybe 3 days. Its been a week now, no drywall or insulation yet, and the smell has completely diminished. I’m so glad I could find it in Amazon, because it was nowhere to be found in the Phoenix area. ... show more

  • Easy to apply, works well
Used Tenino 2% a number of years ago for additional protection with 4x4 fence posts, and the posts have held up much better than the non-treated ones. Bought this again last month for use on the non-treated posts I'm now replacing after 8 years (the treated posts are still going strong). This also comes in an 8% solution, although not here, that I have used on farm posts in the distant past. I see reviews mentioning the smell - it doesn't seem that strong or offensive to me. Just wear latex gloves while applying this. If you read the MSDS, the solution is largely mineral spirits with the copper naphthenate. ... show more

  • Used to retreat old RR ties around shed base
Bought 2 years ago and finally got to put on. Extremely runny, almost like water. Soaks right into timber and the bugs run out. Because it's so thin it's hard to apply to the sides of the timber. (easy to use) If it wasn't for decorative patio stones nearby, I would have used a small spray dispenser. Used a cheap nylon bristle brush and it worked fine. I'll let you know next year if the wood is holding up better. Don't understand the "style" category. It's green and smells. Is that a style? This may cause you skin to itch so use a soft brush so it doesn't splatter. ... show more

  • Well, it depends...
Yes it smells some but I didn't find it sickening or, overpowering though unpleasant. I was outdoors with a light breeze though. Application is a breeze to, seems to penetrate well on the side of soft pine and, of course, the end grain soaks it way up really quickly. I can't speak to effectiveness or, longevity yet but, if it really does contain the ingredients listed on the lable, at those concentrations, I'm sure it'll be fine. CON: But even though the APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS say you can paint over it with oil base paints and, you can, what it doesn't say is none will stick to it very well. I tried 3 different types of oil base primer (leading brands) after 4 days set time before the first attempt - in warm sunny weather, low humidity - and none stuck to it very well. You could "scoop" it off with your finger nail after 24 to 48 hrs. And the last one was an expensive above the waterline boat primer. I ended up sanding it with 80 grit after getting back down to bare wood (way to easily. ) The sandpaper would clog up as I went along though. Then attacked it with chemicals. I suspected the reason was -speculation- that like other types of these products from the past it contains some type of paraffin, or other waxy substance, that will dissolve in petroleum distillates used as the carrier compound for the active ingredients. Not a bad idea at all, provides a great moisture barrier, just like lead based primers of old. But this felt a little to waxy to me so I tried things that worked when I had to remove color crayon from things we never wanted colored to begin with. The last one that really fixed it was some diluted household ammonia. I tried all the primers again (and I'm talking quarts here thank goodness) in sections and they all stuck much better and with much shorter dry time. This is not scientific, just empirical observation. And, maybe there is some oil base that will just work on top of it. But for sure I would test on some scrap or a small area before committing a whole project to it if you want to paint over it afterwards. ... show more

  • Smells horrible but soaks in nicely
After having to replace some dock joists after just 12 years, I decided to step up my game this time around. I saw a builder using this stuff on YT and they said it's required by code in some places on end cuts. I've been using a paint brush to apply it on each cut and was surprised at how much the wood soaks it up. It smells horrible so I can't imagine anything alive ever wanting to chew on my joists! I can't speak for durability but it is a similar chemical to what the OEM lumber suppliers use and while not pressure applied, it is an extra layer of protection. Hopefully my joists will outlast me and the next person can worry about it decades from now! ... show more

  • Excellent wood treatment
Using for a floating deck - brushing over where wood blocks were cut on the ends or where nail holes / screw holes Use outside - odor is strong but wood soaks this stuff in - seems to almost immediately repel water Time will tell but good stuff. Purchased 2 of these so far
