  • It continues to be fun, she explores something new every time she gets ...
This kit has been a staple in our house for years--I think we started these experiments with my daughter before she turned 5 and she's 9 now. It continues to be fun, she explores something new every time she gets it out, and she has required very little supervision with it since the first couple of times we did it with her. We also used these experiments as the basis for an experiment with a mixed 1st-3rd grade class, and the children loved it. The Copernicus kits are well designed, accessible for kids and minimal work for adults. They do a great job of making the kits require minimal amounts of equipment or supplies from home. We have used several of their kits through the years and I would recommend any of them, no duds so far. ... show more

  • “Fun to do, tastes gross.” -10 yr old
Bought this for my niece as a Christmas gift. She said it was fun, but nothing was edible.

  • Edible but not tasty
I purchased this item for my 10 year old daughter for Christmas last year. When I received the package, I was a bit surprised at how very small it was(I'd say about the size of an index card holder). I was expecting a little more of a wow factor but the smaller size may appeal to some. Pros: She absolutely loved it and was able to do the experiments without assistance. There are enough supplies included to repeat experiments. The experiments provided a good way of understanding acids/bases. Cons: The 'edible' part is more that the mixtures are not toxic. They are far from tasty and neither my daughter or I actually liked any of them. There are some explanations provided with the experiements but think these could have really provided a little more information. My daughter had fun with the set so I'd say it was worth the price but I was a little disappointed overall with the taste and quality. ... show more

  • I like that I didn't have to watch her do things ...
My 9 year old loves little science experiments. She loves mixing things and seeing how things react. She had been asking for a long time if she could get a chemistry set. Last time she got a science experiment package, my boyfriend had to help because there were corrosive products, which I will never understand because it was for children. Anyway, I told her she could get one as long as I don't have to help and it's safe. She chose this set because it's edible and the items should be food grade safe. The pack came with everything she could need, including a teaspoon! That was huge because we just moved into our new home and we had been using disposable plates and utensils. I like that I didn't have to watch her do things step by step. I was right next to her as she did her experiments, but I didn't have to handle unsafe chemicals and have her watch me do the experiment, like the other she had previously. Although it's an edible experiment, I still did not allow her to drink the fizzy drink she made. It's a nice little set that your child can work on independently. ... show more

  • Tiny package
The picture describing the activity seems like a good size package however when arrived it was a tiny little box with only a one time activity

  • Fun little kit
The kids had a lot of fun with this, but it wasn’t as easy to follow as some activity kits. So, some of the experiments were not successful- but, still fun for the kids and they were able to perform them independently

  • meh, household items in a box with a price tag
The idea is nice, but you have to buy more ingredients to do the experiments. There is one thing in the box that it doesn't tell you what it is.. "amazing color crystals". Well, we used it and the experiment worked, but I still don't know what the color was. I'm a biologist and teacher, so it was easy for me to explain the reactions happening, chemical compounds, and gases released- to my child who loves to make things fizz and explode, and apparently turn color. The descriptions of the reactions, chemicals, and process could be better. I like the lesson that's written after the experiment is done, but I didn't feel the information was in the right order for a kid to learn about the reactions they were causing in the experiments. So, I read ahead first to prepare the lesson so he could learn about the reactions- read a bit, hear, do, observe, read, then talk about it after. I actually wanted him to learn from the kit. You could just hand it to a 9 year old and say "here you go", but they'd probably be disappointed. Working alone, even with all the ingredients, the experiments might not go as planned. He was happy to taste the experiment too, so I'm glad it's edible..(not tasty), just wish I knew what the magic color crystals were. ... show more
