  • Great Idea, Flawed Execution. Poor Documentation and Support
I really wanted to like this product, since it seemed to solve a problem for me. I have an older 10-inch Windows tablet that needed a keyboard for occasional writing projects during travel. The universal fit case was a big plus, and the price seemed reasonable. Unfortunately, my unit has problems and I will be returning it to Amazon. The first of these is that I paid extra for the keyboard backlight function with "7 colors", and so far I can only find 3 of them. One is Blue, one is Red, and the third is Pink. They each have two brightness settings, so I suppose you could charitably call that "6 colors". No plain white to be found anywhere, and the backlight on my unit, in any color, is far too dark to be of practical use. Even worse, with a fully charged keyboard. my backlights begin to flicker and then shut off in about 90 seconds of typing. I can't tell if this is a feature or a defect, since the documentation supplied with the device is so poor and incomplete. I just know that I get about a minute and a half of backlight while actively typing, and then the light goes off and I can't get it back. Strike one. Next, the magnetic case closing clasp is flimsy, and I doubt it will last long. It wouldn't cost much for them to have made this part, which is used every single time the case is open, out of double thickness fake leather. Aside from that, the case looks good. The kickstand in the back, however, has no locking mechanism, is restricted to one shallow angle, and slips a lot, even on a flat surface such as a hotel room desk. You probably want to put something behind it to keep if from collapsing. I use my desk stapler or a coffee mug at home. Don't even think about trying to get it to work on your lap. Strike two. Pairing with my Windows tablet, which pairs perfectly and immediately with every other Bluetooth device I own, is slow and cumbersome. For some reason, in addition to showing the keyboard, when I try to connect, the device populates my tablet screen with five other devices, three of which say "Unknown" and it tries to connect to them as well, without success. This means it takes forever to get up and running. Strike three. Are there positives with this device? Yes. The keyboard itself is quite good. I am a touch typist and it only took me about a half day to adjust to the size. The keys are responsive and feel very much like a good laptop. I really am not much slower on this keyboard than I am on my primary desk machine. I also like that the keyboard is rechargeable. The magnetic arrangement that holds the keyboard in the case seems fine to me. So I'll give Cooper Cases a thumbs up for the keyboard part of this product. I will also say that the clips that secure the tablet into the case seem to work fine. Unfortunately, the upper right hand hook sits directly over the Power button on my tablet, but that is the nature of "universal" cases. I just have to pull this clip up a bit to turn my tablet on or off, not a deal breaker for me. Now a word about customer service. I have had the device for 48 hours, and have reached out to the company by phone, where I was greeted by a eerie computerized voice that did not identify the company, kept on hold for over 20 minutes, and then hung up on, while never being connected to a human. This was in the middle of the US business day. If this is how a company is going to handle their telephone customer service, why bother with a phone number at all? Then, I tried to use their "live chat" feature. Although a chat bot assured me that "they typically reply in a few minutes", I got no response to my chat for one hour, and gave up. Perhaps someone should check to see if the person or persons who staff their live chat are still alive. Again, this was not in off hours, but smack dab in the middle of the business day in the U.S. If they are in another country (probably China) and are on different hours, then their site should say so. I am still waiting for a reply to my email. The documentation supplied with the keyboard/case is a small two-sided piece of paper with print so small one can barely read it. Fortunately it is reproduced online in a way that it can be zoomed in on. But, the documentation is incomplete, such as not telling you that you may have to press "Function+C" for the keyboard to be discoverable to your tablet. It would be so simple to just write a better manual for this device, even if it was a bit larger. There is plenty of room for it in the box. Since I write manuals for a living, I may be a bit over-critical on this point. Finally, and this is not a criticism of the product per se, if you are intending to use this to turn your tablet into a laptop replacement, consider how much you will miss the touchpad function, which this model does not have. While this is a matter of personal work style, I found it to be a great hindrance to me. The company does offer a similar model with a touchpad, but without backlighting. Given how poor the backlight is on my unit, I intend to return mine, and purchase the one with a touchpad. If you are not coming from a laptop with a touchpad, this may not be a big issue for you. As I said, I really wanted to like this product. I am hopeful that the next one, with the touchpad, at the same price, will work out better. ... show more

  • Best flexible keyboard+case option out there, though not without faults
I have a Samsung Tab S4. I have tried a number of tablet keyboards (this one, plus the Logitech Folio and Finitie S4 Keyboard Case). The Cooper Backlight Executive keyboard case has been the best option so far. Major issues with the Logitech Folio: 1) The case was bulky and heavy 2) The screen frequently falls if not fully inserted into the retaining tabs when setting up 3) Touching items on the bottom of the screen (like the "home" button) could result in the screen moving out of the slots and the screen falling. 4) A cheap elastic strap is used for holding the case closed 5) If you read reviews online, there is a high failure rate for inoperable keys on this Logitech keyboard. My keyboard suffered from this - it had a key that I had to mash multiple times before the key press was recognized. Major issues with the Finitie: 1) The keyboard needs to be adjusted to close the case. 2) The keyboard needs to be adjusted again after opening the case. 3) There was no real retention mechanism to hold the tablet in place when angled, so it constantly falls down 4) Keyboard positioning was always awkward, and seemed too far from the screen during use 5) Key layout was bad compared to a typical QWERTY layout, I was constantly hitting the wrong buttons for Ctrl, Shift, and Backspace. 6) Heavy, but not as bulky as the Logitech. Major issues with the Cooper: 1) The magnetic case closure is flimsy, and won't stay closed during a fall. 2) The keyboard is supposed to be held in place magnetically to the case, but it is very weak. The keyboard can slide out when the case is closed but turned to the side. 3) Related to the last bullet, I have to readjust the keyboard when opening / closing the case since the keyboard slides around - though not nearly as much as the Finitie. 4) When open, the magnetic closure flap tends to flop in front of the screen. I am getting into the habit of slightly tucking it under the tablet. 5) A bit awkward when used in my lap, getting the screen steady and in a good position is challenging. However, it's slightly better than the Logitech and much, much better than the Finitie. The Cooper does have a few good points, too: 1) The backlighting is very nice and works well for our usage - we use the tablet a lot in the dark when researching IMDB during movies. 2) The Cooper case is the most attractive of the three. The faux leather looks and feels nice. 3) The tablet retention mechanism is well designed and sturdy. 4) Key layout seems better and less error-prone than the Finitie 5) The interior of the case is soft, which should keep scratches to a minimum. Short of paying $150 for a Samsung-branded Tab S4 case (which gets lousy reviews), the Cooper appears to be the best overall option - until I find something better. ... show more

  • Disappointing
Size: 9 -10.5 inch Color: Dark Blue
The shape is not really universal, didn't fit my tablet at all and the keyboard was not even working reliably. It is held in place by a magnet so it would move constantly. Also there is not much clearance between the keyboard and your tablet screen so basically it mash over the tablet screen with potential risk to crack the screen if there is any impact, defying the whole purpose of using a folio ... show more
