    • I didn't think it would work, but it does

This is a 59" x 79" cooling blanket from Topmeta. I needed a throw to use for naps in warmer weather and came across this one. I really didn't think it would work, but it actually does. The manufacturer's packaging is a padded kraft envelope, which I thought was a bit odd, but not really a big deal. The throw is lightweight but I was happy to see that it's not super lightweight...I wanted it to be heavier than just a sheet and it is, but not as heavy as a blanket. The tag says it is nylon on one side, and bamboo viscose and polyester on the other. The blanket looked nice right out of the package but had a bit of a perfume-y smell so I washed it (cold water, tumble dry on low) right away. Once I washed it, there was no remaining smell other than my detergent. It washed and dried beautifully. Very much to my surprise, this blanket somehow really does make you feel cooler when you're laying under it. It is sort of heathered on one side and solid on the other. If you lay with the solid side touching you and the heathered side facing out, it's a stronger cooling sensation than if you have the heathered side touching you, so you can choose which side suits your needs at the time. It's very soft, silky, and comfortable. My only concern is that I think it's only a matter of time before my cats put runs in the fabric if they lay on me while I'm using it. Aside from that worry, this throw is exactly what I needed. At the time I'm writing this, it is priced at $39.99, but with both a coupon and a promo code which make this a really great deal. ... show more

    • Cut down on those hot sleeping nights in summer!

We have a 2-story colonial house and the HVAC performs unevenly for both heating and cooling in the upstairs bedrooms, where we’re too cool in the winter and too warm in the summer. I’ve achieved a partial solution in the master bedroom - the only one we use as empty-nesters - through the use of an inline duct fan that gives us better airflow regardless of the solution. Still, it will be interesting to see if this ‘cooling blanket’ will help us be even more comfortable in the upcoming hot weather months. It may be noted that this is a ‘comfort’ item, not an appearance item. It has the appearance of an oversized scrap of gray Jersey T-shirt material. But we’re not vying for a spread in House Beautful, we just want to be comfortable at night. The important thing is, it fits our queen-sized bed well and both sides feel good against our skin. Although it’s still spring and comfortably cool in our area, we did take the opportunity to try it out last night. As I crawled into bed, my wife said “Don’t you think it feels stuffy in here tonight?” I mentioned that this would be a good time to give the blanket a first test, so went downstairs to retrieve it, still in the shipping bag on the table. I spread it out on the bed and hopped underneath. It felt soft, slick and cool to my skin, somewhat reminiscent of satin, but nowhere near that level of luxury. We both fell asleep in a relatively short time and enjoyed our first experiment with it. Time will tell how it actually performs when things heat up in a minor so. This first test was promising , and we’re hopeful that it will provide comfortable nights’ sleep during the summer months. We’ll give it a preliminary 4 thumbs up 👍 for now and revise the review if we find something we like or don’t like in the coming days and weeks. ... show more
