Update: I contacted Contigo's customer service at gocontigo.com. After providing a PDF receipt from my Amazon purchase, along with some photos of the defective bottle, they sent me a new bottle free of charge. This new one does not leak; I have used it daily for a week now with both hot and cold beverages and have had no problems. Still disappointed about the volume markings, but that's no big deal. As to my concerns about being BPA free, customer service wrote: "No worries, our research lab spends countless hours developing safe, innovative drinkware products that are designed for everyday use. All materials and end products that we use are approved and tested to applicable food contact laws. All of our water bottles are BPA and BPS free, Phthalate-free and Latex-free. Many are also made from FDA approved Eastman Tritan. Eastman Tritan is far more durable than a traditional plastic and helps resist against stains and odors. Our gaskets are made from high-quality, durable, food-safe silicone and are BPA-free. Validation that this plastic is BPA-free is supported by robust testing by independent third-party accredited laboratories. Your health and safety are of the utmost concern to us. Please contact us if you have any other questions or concerns." I was very pleased with the level of customer service that I received from the agent. ___ Original review [one star]: As a replacement for my Camelbak I bought this Contigo 24 ounce bottle, licorice color. Terrible decision. I love the design of the cap but it fails in its most basic obligation--it leaks. I use this bottle for my coffee; I put in the sugar and cream, then the coffee. I screw on the cap and shake it and it spills all over. I make sure the button is locked; I make sure not to push the button; I make to screw the cap on very tightly and I flip the spout cover closed. None of this matters, though, as the coffee comes out through the spout. Another negative is that I wanted a BPA free product. The Amazon page states that both the lid and the bottle are BPA free, but nowhere on the bottle or the lid is there text that reads that. Did I get what I paid for? I don't know; I have no way of knowing if this is BPA free. As for the measurement, I liked that my Camelbak had lines for 8, 16 and 24 ounces. This bottle only has a line at 24. Finally, nowhere in the Amazon page does it warn that this bottle is only for cold or room temperature liquids. It is only after you receive it that you learn it is not supposed to be used with hot liquids. I thought 8,000+ reviews meant a pretty solid product, especially with so many stars. This has been a complete waste of almost $20. I will contact the vendor and see what can be done, otherwise it will go in the recycling bin. ... show more

This is a great water bottle. It's leakproof so I have no hesitation throwing it into a bag. It's also nice because you can generally use it with one hand - helpful for a quick break during exercise class or for driving, and much easier than, say, unscrewing the top of a metal water bottle. Release button/trigger at the back side of the bottle = Most efficient/ergonomic mechanism imo. Alternative bottle designs: - a straw (sure, I'll use a straw for iced coffee, juice, etc. but with water, there's something about it being tasteless that doesn't make sipping through a straw as appealing) - a lid with spring release button at the front (button pressing with thumb is less ergonomic) - a cap that screws/unscrews (most secure but also requires the most work) I do not like any of the above alternatives and that was why I decided to go with this water bottle. Having the release button/trigger at the back is imo the best type of mechanism and Contigo gets this just right. My previous Contigo bottle also featured this same mechanism but I wanted one with larger capacity. Pros: - Lock button works just as intended - Spout cover is great for when you don't want it to get dirty - Handle makes it convenient to carry around - The large size reduces my number of trips to fill up when at work - Clear bottles remind me to stay hydrated more often since the water is visible - Durable plastic that is less prone to dents, unlike typical stainless bottles Cons: - Doesn't fit in standard car cup holders (it fits in my door cup holder but not the center console one) - May be slightly large to hold for people with smaller hands - Can get a bit heavy when drinking from full - May need to angle your head back relatively more than with other, more slim bottle designs when drinking Would highly recommend! ... show more

Over all it's functioned well and meats the clear requirements my job requires for water bottles on the floor. I have noticed if you only press the button a little or just ass you press it sometimes a bit of water will come out of whatever hole allows air in. This the a big deal but it's good to know! As well if you use crushed ice sometimes it may get stuck and make it so the spout doesn't close, since it's only ice it does melt and close again but be aware so you don't accidentally spill! ... show more
