  • A great budget mic
Color: Red
If you want to see my final opinion right away skip down to the last paragraph. I was in need of a better microphone for making videos online. I had the popular Rode Video Micro. While the audio quality was quite good with that mic, the nature of the smaller mic and thus the pickup pattern it made sound from further away from the camera too soft and needed too much boost in post production which caused too much distortion. So I looked for a mic that was larger with a larger pickup pattern. The Rode VideoMic Pro would have served my needs fine but the cost was a little out of my budget. So after looking at all the larger on-camera mics on Amazon I decided to try out the Comica CVM-V30Pro. In the box you get the mic itself, the usual foam windscreen cover and what I really appreciated was that they include a nice dead cat/wind muff that you usually don’t get with other mics in this price range. Of course you get a manual as well. Don’t forget to pick up a couple AAA batteries that this mic requires. There is one little feature that I want to mention that ended up being a huge feature for me. On the rear of the mic there is a led light that indicates the mic is turned on. I have had other mics without the light and I hate to admit I have screwed up more than a couple videos by forgetting to turn the mic on. Big plus for this mic. The build quality is fine for a mic at this price range. Everything is pretty much plastic as you would expect but not super thin plastic that could break quickly. I have run around quite a bit outside with this mic and even dropped the whole camera rig and the mic survived without any breakage. The mount of this mic is nice and seems to absorb any movement just fine. I have wiggled the camera around with the mic mounted on top and didn’t really hear any noise from the mount. This shotgun mic has the usual super cardioid pickup pattern. Very little noise is picked up from behind. You can pick up a little more from the sides but not much at all. I feel this mic is super directional which is what you want from a shotgun mic. You get a nice and natural sound in whatever environment you are in. The mic does have a low cut filter feature which helps to avoid booming type noise but honestly I don’t use this feature very much even on higher end mics so I can’t really speak to this feature. The +10db feature helps when you need to pick up sound that is further away. If you are a vlogger and you hold your camera at arms length there is really no need to use this feature. The volume of audio you get at that distance is just fine without it. One big problem I had with the Rode Video Micro was I would very often get RF noise when filming indoors. I don’t know if this was something specific to my home or something but it really ruined the audio that I would often resort to a lav mic when filming indoors. Now with the Comica CVM-V30 Pro I get NO RF noise! Again I don’t know if the RF noise was due to my environment but switching to the Comica lens totally solved the problem. Big win for the Comica. Audio is a very subjective thing. What may sound good to one person may not be as good to someone else. What I can say is that the Comica solved many of the issues I had with the smaller Rode Video Micro not to mention solving the huge issue with the RF noise. In my opinion the audio quality of this mic punches way above its weight class. It is a fantastic value at the sub $60 price range. If you want a on-camera shotgun with better audio quality I feel you would need to invest into the Rode VideoMic Pro or the other mics in the $150 - $200 price range. I am VERY happy with the audio quality of this mic and I feel very comfortable giving it my recommendation. ... show more

  • Great shotgun mic for the money.
Color: Black
This is the third Comica mic I have and this is by far the best. I am a big fan of their products. I purchased this for my YouTube channel and have been using for the last five days and I am really impressed. For $54 (time of purchase July, 2019) you get the shotgun mic, a pop filter, a wind muff, a shock mount, and the manual. The mic is a Super Cardioid mic, which means it picks up sound very well directly in front of it. Sides are OK and it picks up very little to no sounds behind you. It’s very directional. The subject has to be in front of the mic to pick up good sound. The mic does require that you have a cold shoe on your camera. My t7i has it built in. Also, the mic needs two AAA batteries. Which is good and bad at the same time. It's good because the mic won't suck up all the power from your phone/camera. It's bad because you have to have extra batteries around just in case it runs out and it puts a little more weight on your setup. (I don't know how long the two AAA batteries will last, but for my five days of testing it's still going strong.) If you are vlogger, the size of the mic is just too big in my humble opinion. With the wind muff on, it’s a monster. Speaking of wind muff, the only way to put on the wind muff is to put it over the pop filter. The wind muff won’t stay on unless the pop filter is on first. For vlogging I use the Comica CVM-VM10II (very small and discrete). The CVM-VM10II is made of metal and this mic is plastic. Plastic is good in that it keeps the weight down. It’s bad because of durability. The shock mount the mic sits on does it’s job. Small bumps are not heard and moving the camera around slowly will not add unwanted sounds. If you make quick and violent movements, you might pick up a bump of two. The low cut filter is great if you are indoors and the AC is running in the background. It helps reduce the noise, not much, but it helps. The 10dB is great for long distance shoots. I was recording birds with my 70-300mm lens and it really helped in capturing the sounds. If you are close (5-10 feet) it gets really loud and distorted with the 10dB on. Well, if you speak softly, it might not. But my kids are loud and I had to turn the 10dB off when they are close, lol. The only gripe I have is, the 3.5mm is attached to the mic and cannot be removed. It only has two rings and is only intended for Cameras and not smart phones. Smart phones need a three ring 3.5mm wire. Anyhow, I hope this really helps. For the money, it’s a five out of five star for sure. ... show more

  • Great mic, excellent value
Color: Red
The media could not be loaded. The comica V30 pro is a directional condenser shotgun video microphone with a super cardioid polar pattern a frequency range of 40 Hertz to 20,000 Hertz sensitivity of -33dB to -23dB +/- 2dB, and an output impedance of 200 ohms. With an all plastic outer construction and weighing in at 114 grams It's noticeably lighter than my Rode Video Mic but heavier than other options like the Rode video mic pro, placing it comfortably in the middle range of similar offerings from other companies. It's powered by two AAA batteries that are not included, but battery life as of this review has been exceptional. The included wind muff is the “dead cat” style, and fits comfortably over the entire mic, including the foam, not just the capsule, which gives it a very secure placement. It does a very good job of dramatically reducing the sound of the mild and moderate breezes that I tested it in, though it needed to be fluffed up a bit as it was fairly compressed in shipping. The Comica V30 Pro has a +10db sensitivity option, which was unnecessary in my application as my Panasonic GH5 has a fairly hot pre-amp, but worked as it’s supposed to when I tested it. The V30 Pro also includes a low pass filter that will roll off frequencies under 80 Hertz which really helps to cut down background rumble like traffic or wind. The permanently installed shock Mount is highly stylized and at first glance does not seem like it would be all that effective. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it actually does a very good job of eliminating minor camera movements. Overall, this mic is an excellent value, and will definitely be in my daily use camera bag. ... show more
