Features

  • Designed for Sony FX30 / FX3: The FX30 / FX3 cage features modular design, including a NATO rail module and a U-shaped cage module. The NATO rail is secured on the top via two 1/4"-20 screws and allow connecting the original XLR top handle after disassembly; the U-shaped cage module is fixed via 1/4"-20 screws on both sides and the bottom to prevent twisting. The package comes with a dedicated cable clamp for HDMI to protect the interface and ensure the signal stability during shooting.
  • Classic Bright Black Surface: Classic design features bright black shape, bring you a new sense of fashion. The battery compartment is designed with an hinge arm to fit camera curve for improved grip experience for little finger. Built-in rubber pads preventing scratches.
  • Multiple Mounting Points: The cage features 1/4"-20 holes fits Magic Arm 3873; the locating hole for ARRI suits Top Handle 3765; the side NATO rail can attach Side Handle 3813; the 1/4-20 positioning holes on the upper left corner and left side can attach Rod Clamp 3598 for follow focus; two 1/4-20 holes on the side can attach quick release plate; built-in cold shoe can attach Microphone 3468, LED Video Light 3286B.
  • Quick Release Plate for Arca: The QR plate at the bottom is compatible for DJI RS 2, RSC 2, RS 3, RS 3 Pro, quick release plate (height increase pad) and plate for Arca 3154. The cage also features strap holes on both sides and the bottom, which are compatible with Hand Strap 3848, Shoulder Strap PSC2428, etc. The bottom QD socket to install QD shoulder strap, and a magnetic wrench is included for easy disassembly and assembly.
  • Note: 1. The spacing between the 1/4" holes on the NATO rail is 27mm, so it is not compatible with accessories with a spacing of 18mm. 2. When using the original XLR handle, please remove the NATO rail first.

I've slowly been piecing together my rig and recently decided to get a cage. I did some research and decided this would be the best choice for me. I like that the NATO rail hung over the front a bit and didn't cover the hot shoe mount. I also liked the additional cable clamp for the HDMI port. I discovered that the handle I had previously purchased did not fit on the NATO rail. The rail is just slightly larger than the handle groove. So I had to install the handle's NATO rail on top of the SmallRig NATO rail. This isn't ideal and I wish I had a HawkLock handle. Also I was hoping to use the hot shoe mount for the DJI Mic 2 receiver with adapter (so that I wouldn't need to use a cable), but there isn't enough room to use a handle and the adapter. So while the NATO rail does allow for the hot shoe mount to be exposed, I don't see how you could use a handle and the mount at the same time. The cable clamp isn't that convenient if you plan to frequently assemble/dissemble the rig. I didn't have time to fiddle with it and ended up removing the clamp. I had SmallRig a cage on my Sony a6300 for years, and it saved my camera from a lot of abuse. You can see it in the dings and scratches that have accumulated on the cage over time. When I upgraded to the FX30, this cage is one of the first things I ordered, and apparently SmallRig has come a long way since I bought my first cage. A lot of thought has been put into this. They've made a minimalist cage while also packing it with smart design choices: - Along with the included NATO rail, there's also one integrated into the side of the cage, ready to have the side-handle of your choice attached, out-of-the-box. The NATO rail they include does have a stopper pin to prevent anything that might come loose from sliding off the rail. - They were able to follow the body lines of the base of the camera without obstructing the battery door by allowing part of the cage to be pushed out when you need to change batteries. This swinging arm doesn't feel like something that will become loose - you do have to push it open. - They've included a tool on the bottom of the camera so you can tighten the three screws that secure the cage. It's slotted in and magnetized to hold it in place until you need it. - The base of the cage itself is a tripod plate. I was delighted when I realized this. The only drawback I can think of is that the screws holding the cage onto the camera have loosened up a bit on me, and required tightening. Fortunately they've included that tool on the body, and you can always you a little loctite to secure things down in a semi-permanent fashion. ... show more

I've been using exclusively Smallrig products since 2014, especially when it comes to cages, handles and adapter mounts. Quality with all Smallrig parts is 10/10. the first cage that they offered for the FX3 had for some reason a patina effect which was not my favorite. I almost went for a different brand as I was in a need for a cage however, Smallrig made available the plain black cage which I ended up buying. Quality didn't disappoint. I love the nato rail on top of my FX3 which allows me to mount and unmount my external monitor really quick and efficient. My only complain is that it covers the smart hot shoe adapter which does not allow me to use the audio handle every time I go shooting. In the same time I would never recommend mounting something as heavy as an external monitor + Battery on the audio handle itself because it will damage the port and/or break really quick. I took a look at the Tilta option as well, however Smallrig never disappointed and I'm happy going this route. Totally recommend. ... show more
