Headline pretty much captures it. This filament dryer, which is necessary for my humid environment, gets the job done, but at the cost of feeling very cheap in settings (only 3 temperature settings, very rudimentary display and interface), materials (plastic feels thin and cheap), and fan (when on, the internal fan whine is louder than my printer). for a filament drying system is not bad, the fact that you can fit two rolls is a plus, and its also great for printing in place, if you can have this placed on a box or shelve so that there are no kinks in the filament while it goes into the printer. I would probably suggest adding a Teflon Bowden tube to the top so that the filament has some direction and not just hang there. But its great overall. ... show more

    • I have 6 of these for two printers and I'm worried half are failing...

These units were definitely a bargain and simple to set up and use. And they also do a good job of keeping filament dry while I print. I use them to feed filament into a multi-color print system and they work great for that. However, I bought one dryer in February of 2023 and the rest in August/September of 2023 and at least three of them are now VERY loud on startup. I have read that can be a sign they are failing. I don't see any options for tech support or to contact the manufacturer, so I don't know how to raise this concern. This would be five stars if it weren't for the concerns that two are failing after about a year. ... show more

This replaces the Qidi Tech filament holder, which had some serious issues that this holder addresses (intentionally, or otherwise). The Comgrow uses a heated environment to keep the filament dry, which means no longer needing the bag of desiccant that always seemed to get hung up on the filament spool. Rather than trying to thread the filament before inserting the roll, which ended up allowing the filament to "jump" the spool and get tangled, you put the filament into the box first and then thread the filament. The cover is clear allowing me to see how much is on the spool rather than guessing by weight. The cover is hinged which makes loading the filament so much easier. The instruction manual included has instructions to press a button that the machine doesn't have to start the drying process, all the machine was able to do at first is power on /off and count down for 3 minutes until it automatically powers off. I eventually managed to get it to start the dry cycle, the instructions say that when it is drying the display will show "work" at the top, it doesn't, the only way to tell is to stick your hand inside. The instructions show that there should be a top line on the display when in the settings menu that shows when setting is actually there, this line doesn't exist, the screen only shows 4 digits with no units or context. The temperature inside is also barely warmer than ambient, I had hoped something that claimed to be purpose built to dry filament would actually be able to do that, but it looks like thats expecting too much. I'll be returning it and adding this to the list of "brands" to avoid in the future. ... show more
