The minor manufacturing flaw first: The threaded metal shaft in the center of the pepper half of the grinder stuck out just slightly beyond where the flared base could rest flat on a table top. That left the table vulnerable to scratching (fortunately none happened) and the grinder wobbled when it was set down on the pepper end. It rested fine as long as the salt grinder end was down. I fixed it with a Dremel grinder tool, took about 1/2mm off the end of the shaft. It's pretty easy if you have a tool like that. (Mask the rest of the base all around the shaft with heavy tape so as not to grind any finished surface.) Other than that, it's just what I wanted. Good size for a dining table, easy to hold and pass. The ceramic grinders adjust with a simple threaded wing nut, and I can dial in exactly the coarse or fineness I want. Easy and simple to refill. It came filled with white salt and black pepper. I've almost used those up and am looking forward to adding my own choices for flavor and color. ... show more

    • I am using this a lot now.
Once I figured out how to adjust the grind for both the salt and pepper I find I am using this a lot more now. What I thought was plastic is actually acrylic and it has been holding up fine to almost every day use. I find it very hand to have both the salt and pepper together in one tool and I like being able to use not only freshly ground pepper but also freshly ground salt. I can also easily see when it is running low and needs to be refilled. I thought it was a little pricey when I first bought it but after using it I appreciate the design, function and it seems to be sturdier than I initially thought. ... show more

    • This well engineered grinder works perfectly.
This is a well designed and quality manufactured product and I'm quite pleased with its function. If you prefer to add freshly ground pepper and salt to the foods that you have worked hard to cook, this grinder is an excellent choice. It arrives refilled with peppercorns and coarse white salt, saving me a bit of money in not filling it from the start. I will add my own choices when a refill is needed. This double grinder is heavier than other grinders I have used in the past, making it less likely to tip over, a common fault in similar tall grinders. The grind setting is easily adjustable by simply turning the dial on the bottom of each grinder. The grinders twist easily and smoothly to produce the quantities of salt or pepper you want. There is a little trace of spice left on the table after you set the grinder down, but most of that can be eliminated by just tapping the grinder while it's over your food to shake off any remaining residue. I often serve our meals on trays to watch TV so this grinder takes up much less space than a traditional separate salt and pepper shakers. ... show more
