I've been using this new cold press juicer, and it's pretty impressive. The technology is really advanced - it uses a 3-in-1 cold press system with these tiny 0.1mm grinding teeth. It's designed to keep all the nutrients and enzymes intact, which is great for getting the most out of your fruits and veggies. One thing I really like is how compact it is. It doesn't take up much space in the kitchen, which is perfect for my small galley kitchen. And it's super easy to clean - no metal filters to deal with. This auger type, slow juicer masticates the fruits and veggies, which gets more juice out of them. Ok, you're probably asking, "What does it mean when someone says, 'auger' and 'masticates'"? An auger is another word for pressure-like grinder. Meaning instead of cutting the fruits and veggies, and then using fast spinning, this machine presses them through two parts of the machine “the auger” and pulls the juice out that way. With spinning juicers, the high speed can create some heat which then potentially could affect the natural enzymes found in the fruits and veggies. For those not sure what an enzyme is, that is a part of the fruit and veggie that helps you to digest that particular fruit or veggie. (Ok, this is probably more info than you might have wanted, but it is important to note when you're making raw fruit or veggie juice because that's part of the nutrients you want to keep in the juice so that you can digest the fruit or veggie better). Now, with this type of juicer the machine uses the auger (the two parts) to masticate the fruit or veggie. Masticate means to chew or in the case of this type of machine - to do that pressing of the juice out of the fruit or veggie. The point of all of this explanation is so that you understand that when you are juicing, the less heat you apply in the process, the better you are able to retain the actual nutrients you are trying to get out of the fruit or veggie, and into the juice so that you can digest those nutrients better. Now to this machine. It's really compact which means it will take up less counter space. For me that's important because I live in a "vintage" (old), "quaint" (small) cottage with a small kitchen that does not have a lot of counter space so it's perfect for my situation. It worked really well when I tested it with celery - one of the "dreaded" veggies to juice because of the stringy parts that often will clog a juicer. This one did - until I realized “DUH” that I had not OPENED the output valve for the pulp. Don't do like me, actually open the darn thing!! Ha! Once I opened the output valve for the pulp - it not only pushed out the pulp well, but it was also, MOST IMPORTANT, easy to clean!! The machine's auger comes apart easily making cleanup really fast. I just rinsed the parts, applied a little dish soap and some warm water, and then set it to air dry. It comes with a brush to help with the cleanup. The only "con" that I had with this machine - because it is compact - the feeder tube is small so you will have to cut your fruit and veggies into smaller pieces, but that's the only negative - which is the tradeoff with having a compact machine. Oh, one other thing. Make sure you align the arrows on the machine. I didn't realize I had not done so until I plugged it in and hit the start switch and nothing happened. I've only tried this with frozen blueberries that I thawed out, but it did a really good job. It also wasn't super loud, which I appreciate. I didn't get a ton of juice, but I mostly attribute that to the fact that blueberries are pretty mushy. There was a lot of pulp. At least the juice I did get was very concentrated, and it was plenty for the gallon of tea I was making. I really should have written down how many blueberries and how much juice. I'm excited to try this with other fruits and maybe even some veggies if I'm feeling extra healthy. It's a handy contraption to have around, and it doesn't take up too much space in the cabinet.
