I literally installed this the day before a scammer tried to say I rear-ended them! I pointed to the camera and said "beat it!". A week later, someone also hit me and caused an accident. The quality of the video is poor. The app is unusable. It keeps disconnecting from camera with the error "Failed to connect to camera". Then the spinning wheel is spinning forever saying "connecting to camera access point", camera keeps making bleeping sound, and nothing happens. I spent hours trying to load the video from camera. It takes over your phone wifi connection disconnecting from the home wifi. Phone must be connected to the camera using both Bluetooth and wifi, camera acts like a hot spot, and phone location GPS must be running. It drains phone battery from 100% to 20% in no time. Bluetooth is needed for camera control and wifi for sending video from camera. Not sure why gps should be running on the phone since camera should have its own gps. When camera app is running, it is not possible to use Google maps on the phone to obtaing driving directions. Camera app is a real masterpiece of art. Just have to constantly fight this camera trying to keep it connected to the phone. Spent long time on the phone with app support person. Instructions for the app were not provided and without explanation it is not possible to set up the app. I do not recommend buying this camera. It is not worth your time troubleshooting all the technical issues with it. ... show more

Overall I'm pretty happy with this dashcam. It records as you'd expect, and it runs off USB-C only drawing like 2W of power. I bought two of these, one for my front view and another for the rear, and have them both running off my car's rear USB charging port without issue. Main complaints are that the low-light quality leaves something to be desired, so don't expect to be reading many license plates while driving at night, but it should at least be usable for determining fault. It's also a bit annoying that all the settings are hidden in their app, ended up just downloading it, changing the settings, then deleting it. The app does at least let you remove the watermarking on video files and turn off all of the status beeps though, so that's nice. Only other issue I had was when trying to use this in parking mode, it would enter parking mode just fine but half the time it wouldn't leave parking mode after turning my car back on. So I ended up just not using parking mode in the end. But otherwise, the daytime video quality is pretty good (especially with the addition of a polarizing filter, ended up finding some adhesive ones meant for DJI drone cameras to stick to the front of it), the camera is small and out of the way (I have it hidden completely behind my rearview mirror so I don't even notice the thing) and by default they only have a little status LED and power-on beep, so pretty non-distracting. So especially with how small and out-of-the-way these are, I'd say they're pretty good as a basic, set-it-and-forget-it dashcam. ... show more

While the dash camera itself performs well, I strongly advise against purchasing it if you plan to use it with the Drive Smarter app. The Heads-Up Navigation and Alerts feature is ineffective and plagued by connectivity issues. My experience with customer support was disappointing, as three different representatives were unable to resolve the problem. One admitted to app issues, while another seemed uninterested in addressing the concern. Overall, I would not recommend this product for use with the Drive Smarter app. ... show more

Finding the right dash camera with all the selection out there today can be daunting so I'll tell you our experience and why we chose the SC 201 from Cobra. I also added some unboxing images bc that's important to me. Shape/Size, video quality, forward facing and in cab facing, and brand recognition were key factors when making our decision. There are all sorts of shapes and sizes out there now. A small sleek profile that doesn't block visibility was step one. Next we wanted HD/clear video quality 1080P bc what's the use if you can't make anything out clearly if and when we ever wanted to share for fun or when we actually needed it. We have young kids and if you do, you know the best things that ever come out of their mouths are in the car.. When else are we all in one place together without electronic distraction and have time for conversation... Lastly, we couldn't pronounce half the brands out there let alone trust the ones we could and have never heard of. My husband has had Cobra CB's in his trucks over the years and has their marine radios on our boat. Never had issues so we started and ultimately ended here because they have been around for ever and no reason why they wont be for a ling time. Also we found they have every applicable type or use case dash cam you could want. Product itself came with everything we needed including the SD card. We are happy with the size (I'll update with the mounting location in our truck later) and the mounting bracket provides flexibility and is small when you don't have the camera mounted. First couple trips around town and really pleased (actually surprised) on the quality of the video. Has already provided mediation in a dispute, which I won, and for the record after reviewing the tape HE was supposed to defrost the fish for dinner that night.. :) ... show more
