... show more

  • Finally!
I had bought one similar to this years ago, the company discontinued it, and I've been on the hunt for another ever since. I found one by Fons and Porter, but the chalk was compacted and the wheel didn't turn no matter what I tried. This one I tried, just on my finger, as soon as it showed up. This is almost exactly the same marker I was trying to replace in the first place. The wheel spins easily, dispenses the chalk no problem, and you can see inside that the chalk is nice and loose. When I tried it on fabric, it was perfect. I use this mostly for quilting and some garment construction, but after testing it on several fabrics I know I'll be buying the other colors (and refills since I have a horrible habit of falling in love with products that will be discontinued soon). The wheel didn't snag or pull on any fabrics I tried this on, I did several types of fabrics, from thick, to shiny, to thin. Obviously, I wouldn't use this on a sheer, it has little jagged teeth that move the wheel, but the only fabric I had a problem with was fleece and felt and I think that was more of a "pile" type problem, it was all just falling into the fabric, and I was losing it. It did "pat" easily out of all the fabrics I tried though, so be careful if you're using this for large designs, but it's perfect for all my various piecing projects and I use it to mark quilting patterns in small areas, before moving on and marking the next. If I were doing large scale designs, or something that needed to be all drawn in at once, I'd use a different product. I saw another review on here that it doesn't do small dots. This isn't that type of product, this is more of a tracing wheel, with the powder built in, instead of having to buy the carbon sheets. The wheel has to move for the powder to dispense, the line it leaves is a fine line, but it won't do points. ... show more

  • Visible line. Easy to use and remove.
Chalk cones out easily and the wheel makes a thin line. The thin line is more accurate than the thicker line made by my chalk marker. Great for bag making. Lines rubbed off easily. Bought the refills and I’m thrilled with this new tool.

  • great marking utensil for quilting
I had never used this pen before, and so scoured the reviews before purchase. Someone reported that silver showed up on all different shades of fabric (light & dark), so instead of buying several colors, I just got the silver. I regretted that choice. My experience was not similar to that reviewer's! I LOVED the ease of application of this pen, especially compared to the quilt marking pencil I usually use. However, I really wish I would've ordered white instead of silver. I have a white one on order now, however, that didn't help me when I was marking my fabric! My colors were dark green, also gold/yellow and brown. The silver DID NOT pop out nearly enough to use, so I ended up using my old white pencil - which was tedious and laborious compared to that silver Chaco! It took much longer with my pencil, as I was having to stop and sharpen constantly, where as with the Chaco...NO SHARPENING NEEDED! Another reviewer reported that it was difficult to draw curves with the Chaco - I did not find it any more difficult than with a traditional pencil. The flat head of the Chaco caused me to wonder how it would do in my stencils of leaves and stems, but it was great. I just couldn't see the color very well. So I would most definitely recommend this product - but I would advise buying a couple of different colors so that you don't run into the trouble I did. Incidentally, white popped on all the shades I was using - the gold/yellow being the lightest. I did not try it on any lighter colored fabrics. The silver did not show up on my darks or my lighter gold/yellow. ... show more

This chalk marker is so easy to use and it makes good marks that are easy to remove. Love-love-love it!

  • Do not use white on black fabric
I had a hard time dispensing this. Seems to only run one way. Which is aggravating since from first roll it doesn’t come out. White on black didn’t come out well. I don’t know if I got a defective product or what as this is my first purchase of this type thing. But not happy.
