  • About War Photographer not Civil War
I based my opinion on going to see Civil War on the preview that was shown in the movie theater. I did not do any prior research on what the movie was about or read any of the reviews (my bad). If you are into photojournalism, this is the movie for you. If you are interested in how another civil war could happen in the United States, this movie is not it. I was disappointed that there was no real mention of why the states decided to leave the union or why they were preventing people from leaving the states. There was also no mention of how a president was elected for a third term or how they were able to dismantle the FBI. Thus, the reason for the low rating. ... show more

  • It’s your fault if you went into this movie expecting something else
I see some negative reviews mentioning how it wasn’t a straight-up war film. Well, I saw every trailer for it up to the release, and nothing about them indicated it would be that kind of movie. Personally, I enjoyed the photojournalism aspect of it, as it just as easily could have been another paint-by-numbers war film. It also shows a potential future where each side reaches their breaking point and conflict does ensue. Perhaps you all should stick to comic book movies and Transformer films? ... show more

  • Saw in theaters, can't wait to watch it at home on 4K.
Great movie, great cast, great direction, and excellent sound design. It's an interesting perspective on journalism and it's place in warzones. I know alot of people complain that "it says nothing", but I think it says alot about what journalists do, their need to be unbiased, and the images they capture. It acts like a Klushov test for the audience. I know alot of people also clown on "California & Texas working together, but it made sense in the context of the movie and it's pretty hopeful/positive the more you think about it. These two states, on opposite sides of the political spectrum, put their differences aside to fight a facist/totalitarian president. It's a great movie that challenges you, spells nothing out, and I can't wait to watch it again. ... show more

  • Had potential for a movie experience
I don't want to give away anything for the sake of those who has not seen it yet but I was greatly disappointed for wasting my time watching a plotless movie that had so much potential for a great political drama. Only thing I enjoyed was the experience of watching this from a DBOX seat in the theater. But that's all it was. I'll let you be the judge for yourself. ... show more

  • I will give you Canadian dollars
States have succeeded under the third term of a fascist President who has disbanded the FBI. States that have left include Texas, Florida, California, and Oregon all for different reasons. Only Texas and California have seemed to banded together to form the Western Forces. Lee Smith (Kirsten Dunst) is a photo journalist who is on her way to Washington in hopes of interviewing the President before the Western Forces arrive to kill him. The group allows Jessie (Cailee Spaeny) to tag along against Lee's better judgement. She aspires to be a photojournalist and has no issue with putting herself in harm's way to get a shot. I thought this was a real Civil War film and not the fake one being waged on Twitter. It lacked overt political content like a Ewe Boll film, but the message was clear. I saw the acting as good, but overall the plot lacked credibility and zombies. Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity. ... show more

  • Watch at Movie Theaters
This is not a regular war movie this is journalism and the press capturing the war as it unfolds. There were some good war scenes but the director and cast never told us why they were fighting and who was who because there was no clear uniform. This is the type of movie you only see once. No Spoilers but I needed more passion and details. I left the movie feeling nothing, I need better results. ... show more

  • A biopic set in a controversial setting
I been reading a lot of the reviews on here for fun... and I have come to the conclusion people based on the name, went in expecting the south vs the north. What they actually get is a film exploring a photojournalist career and burnout. It's in many ways about how a career took it's toll on our main character and altering them. This film could have been set in any war really, they decided in my mind to place it in America to help the audience relate to the different characters they meet. For when I watch Black Hawk Down, it's the US vs Africans. Which allows me to villainize the Africans for being other, but in this film, I know these people in some way or other. I've met that guy that hops between trucks, or the gas station guy taking Canadian dollars. Other than that, this film is about a journalist that can only be a witness to the worlds harsh reality, and a new journalist becoming witness and loosing her ability to care. It is about a career shattering a person to their core, and what keeps them going on, it's not about a war and the soldiers. Often the films doesn't even let us know which side they are interacting with, we can only infer. If you are ok with watching a biopic, then go ahead this might be your cup of tea. If you want to know why and who and have some moral at the end. Sadly this film is not for you, and there is a solid possibility you will dislike it. ... show more

  • Sound Design & Fastforward Button
When it’s night time and the characters are just sitting, fastforward until it’s daytime. You won’t miss anything and it will make the movie far more enjoyable. Looking forward to the sound design, the action scenes are great. There are only a small amount and could’ve used more.
