The Cigar Oasis Magna 3.0 takes all the worry and fuss out of storing and maintaining your precious stogies. The Magna 3.0 is fully electronic and once setup only requires occasional refilling (with distilled water) It comes factory set to 70% RH but can be set to exact preference. • Patience Required
Size: Magna
Looking at the material cost, this unit should be much less expensive. That aside, I have a Remington cabinet humidor which has separate refrigeration and heating systems to control temperature. I've disliked the original open air water bath (even with beads) humidifier for some time. It recently failed and I decided to make the leap. Items to note: 1. When they say put the vents to the back, they mean it. The more unrestricted air flow the better so you don't get rebound (frequent on/off cycling). Since my humidor has a ledge in back for the refrigeration system, I put it on the first shelf with the sensor above the top shelf. 2. Use the beads. Open water is a source for molding. Also, it also can cause rebounding due to the higher rate of moisture being put into the cabinet. Gradual addition of moisture is a good thing. 3. The major patience part involves three things going on: heating, cooling, humidifying. You don't want these functions chasing each other around. Humidification causes cooling due to evaporation. So the heater comes on. Heating causes the humidity to go down. So the humidifier goes on. This will happen for the first couple days while your cabinet stabilizes. As I had to relocate drawers and install the system, the drawers will dry out, hence will reabsorb moisture fairly quickly. A new cabinet humidor can take a week, less with drawer wiping. 4. Use a calibrated digital hygrometer to get a true read of humidity. Calibrate using the salt method and you're good to go. My unit read 3-4% high. It's easy to adjust. Make sure you put the hygrometer near the remote head as stagnant air in the cabinet will have humidity variation top/bottom and side/side. When done, put the hygrometer in a different location and don't fret about the small difference. It's fine. 5. No sense buying a small packet of replacement beads every year. A large packet for $14 will last 15 years. 6. The power supply wall wart goes to a Micro USB tip. It requires a 1/2 inch hole to pass through. Squirting some expansion foam in the hole or using duct tape to seal works fine. 7. Additional fans are not needed for my cabinet but may be worth it for the large stuff. Just remember you actually need some unrestricted space to mount them. The also only run when the unit is running. If you want general circulation all the time, I'd recommend either 12 or 120 volt quiet muffin fans. 8. WiFi is poorly implemented. CA uses an App that must be run on a separate server. That's just plain old school. They decided it costs $1.50/month/user to host on a server. When the WiFi feature was incorporated, some memory could have been added for 13 cents. Then the App could easily work direct to the humidor and not require an intermediate server. Probably the only real benefit is "low water" notification. Other than that, if you're going to be gone a few weeks, refill the water and you don't have to worry. The "history" feature just really tells you whether or not you have a problem. There isn't an Echo Skill for this. Another way you could ditch the separate server. ... show more

  • Works As Described.
I'll try to be fair with my review. I have a large cabinet humidor. I have used a Vigilant humidifier for an unbelievable 20 years. Finally it stopped working. Vigilant has a 6 to 7 week lead time for humidifiers. So I needed something NOW. The Magna 3.0 was the best option. The unit arrived quickly and was well packaged. The unit included easy to follow instructions and the Supplier follow up with an e-mail to make sure that I was satisfied. It took more time to empty the humidor than it did to set up the Magna 3.0. It is a snap. Operationally, I set my humidor at 68% RH. The Magna 3.0 reached the set point within 35 minutes. The unit routinely varying from 66% to 68.4% RH. All of this is within the operating guidelines for the unit. As a side note, my unit works easily with regard to establishing a set point. As a "trial", I used a variety of setting at first just to see how the unit would react. I waiver between 65 and 72% RH just for my trials. The unit consistently produced a variance of +/- 3%. But the dominant time stayed at the desired setting. As for the fan, I do not agree with other reviews that the fan is "quiet". But my only comparison is to my Vigilant which IS quiet. That said, the amount of fan noise is not a concern. It is just something that I can hear at a distance of 8 feet from my humidor. BUT, it is a low noise and in most cases would probably become "blue noise" and not noticed at some point. As for the esthetics of the unit, the Magna 3.0 leaves something to be desired. The unit is extremely light-weight plastic and at first glance, one would say, "this is cheap". It is even reasonable to ask, "why did I pay the price that I did for this cheap looking item.". Well, I have to believe that the cost is associated with the electronics of the unit. So, if you have a high, furniture quality humidor like I have, the Magna 3.0 will add no esthetics to your unit. But again, my only other comparison is with the Vigilant which I opted for a hardwood case on the humidifier. Bottom line, the Magna 3.0 works. It is easy to set up and operate. Its operating tolerance with regard to maintaining an RH setting is acceptable. My primary issue is that the unit just plain looks and feels "cheap". It is definitely not comparable to my previous humidifier but then again, I paid 3 times the price for the other. Do I expect 20 years of service life from the Magna 3.0, no I don't. Add-on comment, I took apart my "other" humidifier and messed with it. Now the Vigilant works once again. I had a cable problem with the remote sensor. I will continue to use the Magna 3.0 for a while or until I just plain want to change it out. So far, I would not have any problem recommending the Magna 3.0 to others if they have a large cabinet humidor. ... show more
