I did wash and dry them prior to my son wearing them. Finding socks for our very picky 6 year old daughter has always been a nightmare. If they didn't have "bumps" then they would slide down the back of her foot. Every crazy excuse you could possibly imagine is what we have dealt with every morning before school UNTIL I ordered these on a whim. One word. GODSEND. These stay on, they have a gel-like strip that helps ensure no sliding, they wash and dry nicely, can be bleached (if needed) and they don't seem to make her feet sweat like 100% cotton socks do. It’s Hand Wash and Drip Dry (I think that’s what that symbol means. If not, then by all means, post what the instructions means). Fortunately, my order is too big for my little one, so I hope it will shrink in the wash as most have commented. Overall, it’s exactly what I wanted for my toddler with material and style. The best of the best! Doesn’t slide off! Thin and cool! UPDATE: I’ve ordered these socks 3 different times. The first time they were great! The last two times I’ve gotten socks that have the toe seams on the bottom of the sock. I thought the second time was just a mistake, but nope!

Great deal. These have washed well and held up well so far. They are very thin and are partly mesh. My daughter is seven and says they are comfortable and her shoes don't 'eat' them when she walks. I think that means they stay in place. :) Would purchase again.
