TLDR: Pros - Very well built and durable. Lasts a long time on a single charge. Tons of fun for the cats. Easy set up and operation. Rechargeable. Corrects itself. Cons - Price point is a bit too high. Will not work on most carpets. Firstly - this does NOT work on carpets. That was the biggest bummer for me as my house is mostly carpet. I nearly returned it because of this; however, it's a very entertaining toy for the cats. It feels solid and can take a beating. I let it loose in my bathroom and it smacked into just about everything, but got right back up. If it gets knocked sideways, and it will a lot, it corrects itself and carries on. My cats regularly get "sauna" treatments in the bathroom for their chronic upper respiratory issues and they easily get bored. Since my bathroom is a decent size, I decided to try it in there while they get their steam treatment. The cats interacted with it almost immediately. The antennae light up while it darts around and you can change the speed with the small button on the snail. While the lights act as an attractant for the cat, it also signals the speed settings and power status for the operator. It has an auto-pause feature if it sits untouched for a short period of time. Once it gets touched, or smacked, by a cat it reactivates and starts zipping around again. I can't say for certain how long the battery lasts in between charges, but my cats played with it off/on for a good 30 minutes and I haven't noticed a drop in charge. Worth ~$30? Pros: This is a 'crazy' snail with lots of unpredictable moves. It entertains our cat continuously - more as an object to stalk than to play with though. Our cat seems to get disinterested in toys that have predictable moves. If she can 'figure' out a pattern, she loses interest. I don't think she will find a pattern to the snail's behavior, so far (about a week) when we turn it on, she monitors it to make sure she knows where it is at all times. When it gets stuck, it might try moving in a different direction or appear to get 'frustrated' and throw a fit (so to speak). It enters an idle state if not touched for somewhere around 10 minutes. Left alone, it finds and travels through places where we don't clean every week (like under the bed or behind bookshelves and bedside stands). When it travels through those places, it picks up lint and cat hair. Those collect between the wheels and the body of the snail. I like the fact that I can remove the 'wheels' to clean the snail and keep it operating. Cons: I prefer to have a USB "C" type socket for charging it instead of the single (proprietary) pin (see the picture). The snail doesn't move by itself on a padded rug we have, and has trouble with 'textured' rugs. On wood and tile floors and thin rugs, it does very well. When we leave our cat alone with the snail, we never know where it will be when we return. Yesterday, it was 'hiding' behind a cabinet, straddling an electric cord. ... show more

    • Not a Very Smart Cat Toy

I have two older cats that have not been interesting is boring single dimensional cat toys for a long time. I have been looking for an intelligent toy that will engage them for more than a few minutes. When I watched a few videos of this toy, I thought I would give it a try. The snail is relatively small and easy to setup. I appreciated the small size of the toy especially compared to the larger “smart” toys I have. One really slick feature this snail has is its ability stand up on its own when it is knocked over. This is a very impressive feature. Unfortunately, like all other “smart” toys I have seen, it is quite dumb. It rolls blindly into whatever is in front of it. Watching it bang into walls in the hallway and tip over on its side over and over is not amusing. I really wish these toys can actually be smart and see where it is going. The cats watched it bumble around and when it managed to get into another room, they followed. Unfortunately, after a few swats, they were done with it. The snail getting stuck on all but low pile area rugs and things it can roll under is annoying. If your cat is young and will chase anything, this toy will be fun. After initially charging it, I turned. it on and set it in the floor. Within 30 seconds, my cat picked it up by its antennas and took it upstairs XD. SUCCESS. She does seems to tire of it, but in fairness, she tires of all her toys. Battery life is great. I turn it on for hours at a time, most days and it'll last for over a week before I need to charge it again. If I complained about anything, I would have liked it to be furry or more animal like.     • Crazy Snail = Crazy Fun for Cats!

This little snail is so much fun. It charges quickly, via the included cable. Turn it on, set it on the floor, and it takes off! It does all kinds of crazy maneuvers, and the lights flash in rainbow colors! I have an older cat and a kitten. The kitten loves it! She chases it all over the place! The older cat just watches from a distance - she suffers from a lack of ambition. ha. Also, she is less easily impressed! ha! At least it keeps the young whipper-snapper busy! There are a few drawbacks : 1. It doesn't work well on carpet! 2. It tends to pick up dust bunnies, cat hair etc - you have to disassemble occasionally to clean it out. No big deal. 3. It gets lost! Right now I have no idea where it is! It goes under appliances, cabinets, furniture, etc, and eventually stops when the cat is not interacting with it. The problem is, it often shuts down in weird, dark hidey holes! So then your cat bosses expect you to be the locating service. I wish it had a little beep to help.
