    • Good variety to figure out what a cat enjoys playing with
We had adopted a cat from the shelter last spring, and needed an idea of what type of toys She Who Must Be Obeyed enjoyed. Not all cats play with the same things, but it can get expensive to figure out what toys suit. We gave this assortment a go, to gauge those preferences. The tunnel was a total winner. We keep it at the foot of our bed, and she loves either sleeping there while her hoomans get their rest, or she'll use it as a hiding spot for pouncing on her toys. It keeps its shape even when I bash into it on my way to the bathroom, but doesn't hurt me any. She's also enjoyed the mylar balls, the feathered sisal ball, and the weeble-wobble weighted ball has gotten a strenuous workout. I never know where I'll find it after she's apparently shown it what for. No room is exempt from getting the weeble wobble ball death knell, so I have to watch my step sometimes, lest I break my neck tripping over it. Some of the toys aren't especially well made, so we wouldn't test them unless we were there to keep an eye on her. Our Mistress of All is a chomper, and she can be dangerous with any toy that falls apart easily from chewing. Fortunately, she instinctively disliked those toys. They came out once, but her lack of interest in them had us put them back in the bag, never to see the light of day. I would have given the review 4 stars for some of the collection needing a parental guide, but the tunnel and the toys she plays with every day, even now, made up for it. What also makes up for the chintzy stuff is that we would have spent far more on fewer individual toys, some of which would have only collected dust. At this price, it didn't hurt that Her Meowjesty didn't like some of the toys, while getting the clue about what entertained her. So 4.5 stars lifted to a 5 for the cost savings + entertainment value gotten from those items she did like. I am now rewarded for being a good minion with a cuddle while I type this around her. :::sigh::: ... show more

    • Green tube was a major hit
The green tube that this set came with turned out to be one of my cats all time favorite toys and five years later he STILL uses it frequently. It's easy to travel with or store because you can collapse it and then tie it close with the attached ties. The rest of the toys were okay. The ball with the mouse on top broke pretty quickly and so did the metal ball with the mouse trapped inside. The rest of the toys are okay, pretty cheap but this set is a good deal and cats will either ignore the toys or tear them up anyway so the quality isn't too much of a downside. A note on the crinkle balls - they are dyed and if wet, the dye will leak. I found this out after my cat accidentally would get them in his water bowl and it would turn the water blue or red. I ended up tossing them and then buying some clear, non-dyed ones because I was worried about the dye being in his mouth when he carries them around. Just something to keep in mind. Overall, this set was so worth it for the green tube alone. It has upheld years of play and he still loves it! ... show more

As other reviewers have mentioned, there are glued-on eyes and noses on the mice. Some of the toys are made of a material that is the same as a wrapping bow. The toys with feathers are easy for a cat to chew off and perhaps choke on. My cats liked the tunnel and I was surprised how much they played with the cloth-covered stick. I didn't think they would be interested in that. I have bought some cat toys at our local pet store and the eyes and noses, etc., are made of fabric and sewn on -- you can see the stitching all around them and it would be very difficult for a cat to get them off. As far as the wrapping bow toys, one of my cats chewed a Christmas ribbon I had under the tree 10 years ago. He could barely breathe when I went downstairs and then saw him. The vet said he had been chewing and swallowing the ribbon and when he couldn't spit it out, he kept swallowing it, not knowing what else to do. It wrapped around his intestines and he died. I threw out most of the toys, but removed the glued-on parts of the mouse and kept those, as well as the tunnel and the play stick. I know it's a long review, but I didn't know how these were made until after I had ordered them. ... show more
