  • Great mid-size unit that's 99% perfect
Style: 4250-Watt + Gas
I bought this unit to power up a Halloween Display walkthrough at a property I own that has no power. I chose this unit for the larger tank and inverter / eco-mode technology. There are many others around the same size and some a little cheaper but most have a tank less than half the size. This 4 gallon tank allowed me to run all day without fear of running out, no matter the power load. I imagine other ones, you'd risk running out overnight if you were RV'ing. First, pros: * Inverter generator so it's quieter than a comparable sized standard unit. * Also has Champion's ECO mode so it will auto-adjust throttle based on load. Great to not be running full tilt when you have minimal load and idle will suffice. * Nice large tank especially at this price point/size Now the cons: * A little unwieldy to have to move often by yourself. It's not too heavy but is a little awkward to move. Wheels would help and it looks like it's set up to add a kit, but would've been a nice bonus if they were included. * The fuel filter/strainer in the gas fill is annoying. I found it nearly impossible to fill the tank with it in place, and taking it out to make refueling easier defeats the purpose entirely. It would be much better served with an in-line somewhere instead. or at the very least, without the stupid cross bar in the strainer that prevents you from putting a nozzle in. * I fear for the recoil assembly - I had one sheer the fins on my 2000w champion at the same time I bought this, and now I worry that this one isn't built any stronger and I might need to stock up on parts early - the 2000 was a nightmare to find a replacement for. * Nit-picking because many generators are this way, but it would be SO nice if someone would place the pull handle in a direction that you can start it while facing the machine's controls, instead of behind it. Especially on machines that have a choke, you have to pull the choke out, move to behind the unit, start it, then hurry back in front to turn the choke back off. Just clock the thing another 120 degrees or so and let me start it from the front! As an inverter, it's definitely quieter than my larger non-inverter I have. However it's still a decent volume, so I built a small insulated enclosure to house it. This made it harder to start since the recoil faces the rear of the unit (most generators seem this way to me). Other than the fuel filling being a pain due to the stupid strainer, the unit was rock solid the entire season. It never took more than 2 pulls (awkward angle mostly), and ran without a hitch, a minimum of 4 hours nightly with longer weekend hours and 10 hours straight on Halloween (single tank!). I ran a 30 amp cord into a breaker panel to feed all my circuits for lights and props, and it worked flawlessly. I love Champion's eco mode to leave it as an adjustable throttle to only spin up under higher loads, which really helps to keep noise to as low as possible. It's my 3rd Champion, and is currently in deployment at another house as an emergency backup for winter. Zero doubt in my mind that it'll start on the 2nd pull, and run all night and then some if it needs to. ... show more

  • Very good generator. Quieter than most.
Style: 4250-Watt + Gas
This generator is truly exceptional, offering a level of quiet operation that sets it apart from the majority of its counterparts. Its ease of starting is a welcome feature, making it a hassle-free power solution for various electronic devices and appliances. In fact, it can simultaneously power a refrigerator, two laptops, two fans, two smartphones, a Bluetooth speaker, a 1500-watt electric heater, and multiple lights with remarkable efficiency. What truly sets this generator apart is its reliability. It's a workhorse that keeps going and going, and if it weren't for the need for periodic refueling, it would seemingly run indefinitely. When it comes to maintenance, changing the oil is a relatively straightforward task, although it becomes even more convenient with the assistance of a second person due to the necessity of tilting it. In summary, I have a deep appreciation for this generator, and I'm genuinely delighted with my decision to acquire it. It not only meets but exceeds my expectations, providing dependable power and peace of mind whenever it's needed. ... show more

  • Can't say enough good about this generator
Style: 4250-Watt + Gas
This unit is awesome we bought this generator to power our camper during a 15 day stint in Sturgis this year....I have to say I was sceptical when buying this unit.... But let me tell u how this little guy killed it @ the ralley....i did break it in according to champions instructions....took it to Sturgis & ran this thing 24 hrs a day for 15 straight days with the exception of 10 minutes that I shut it down to change the oil ...oil change is also very simple... This generator performed perfectly didn't miss a click & powered my 30 amp camper flawlessly the intire 360 hrs ....the gas economy is great ....the only thing that could be better is the db level is a little louder than most inverter models....... I would buy this aver & over again highly recommend ... show more

  • Sometimes "diesels" like a 63 Plymouth.
Style: 4250-Watt + Gas
This is my 3rd Champion generator in 12 years. I'm a contractor-construction manager, I use them a lot. At one time, the first one (3600 watts, 120/240V, not inverter) ran 24/7 for 4 months straight, out in the winter weather, at 8,000ft in Wyoming. Over 2800 hours with oil changes every 100 hours. It's the oil changes that are critical to longevity but with that many hours it burned and leaked some oil. The second one now has 1400+ hours on it, (I installed a Hobbs hour meter when I bought it) and again, oil changes every 100 hours. It leaks, burns and rattles but keeps on going. (3600watt open frame inverter.) This new one is a little heavier, louder and not the quite same quality. It has 65 hours on it and I'm pleased it came with it's own hour meter. It takes 3-5 pulls to start and several times it has "run on" or "dieseled" when shut off. That's very hard on an engine, not good for the generator and can destroy the rope start assembly. 2 of the rubber feet have broken off the bottom. Moving the fuel fill to the edge of the tank and adding a fuel gauge are great improvements. Having built over 100 auto and aircraft engines in my life, I know how critical it is to do the first oil change right away to flush out machining and assembly grit. I ran this new generator for 15 minutes with the cheap oil that came with it and when I drained it the oil was remarkably brownish and glittery. With 65 hrs running the AC in my RV with good Castrol oil, so far it looks good but has already started blowing a little oil into the air filter box. Now that I've used all the words, I hope it lasts a long time like the others, but I'm skeptical. The price was nice and low for Prime Day. Edit, April 2024. It now has over 500 hours, mostly with very low loads. It uses a lot less fuel than any generator I've ever used. It's been a great purchase. ... show more
