Very durable Glass, easy to grip Knob on top! The Lid sits down inside the bottom tray slightly, however there is a tiny shelf area around the edge by which the lid perches. If you have ever noticed how some lids end up sliding around and butter all over, we do NOT have that problem with this design. It is exactly for East Coast single-stick butter (yes, we learned the hard way that not all butter sizes were created equal). This dish is very nice, looks great, we use 2 of them due to having a long dinner table for our large family. Easy to use, decorative enough to leave out all the time, easy to clean, serves us well. I leave my butter out on the counter to keep it soft for spreading. This pretty clear glass dish and cover does the job well. The lid clears the butter all around. No mess. The knob handle on top makes it so easy to lift lid. It doesn't slip out of my fingers. It fits with room to spare into the refrigerator butter compartment. And it's attractive ! This was exactly what I was looking for. It's pretty, sturdy, and looks nice on a table. The price was appropriate. I use it every day. It's nice to see through it and know how much butter is in the dish. My previous butter dish was milk glass.
