It came with a rubber coaster, which looks like a slice of lemon. The coaster works well and is washable. I was thankful for this little cute coaster because I can set heavy cups of coffee or a tall glass of milk on the tray with NO worries. I recently bought 2, one for each arm and they came in handy and definitely serve their purpose. They are made of plastic and are light weight. The only downside would be that they won't fit larger couch arms. They almost didn't fit mine but I forced it a bit and they are super snug.

Squeeze closure has me concerned about fabric snags yet it also doesn't close tightly enough that there is enough levelness to safely place a beverage.
